@@Rodman "no exceptions!"" 8 min and more will moved to extra list. We can allow special longer songs for anniversaries (and got it from extra list), as 5-th a song for those who want (and it will not have any awards) , but  not for main challenge.

Ok, maximum song time idea ain't that bad. But I would stick to ~8'30'' (Orion, Master of Puppets). I can live without Call of Ktulu :P

 

This week is quite not in my taste, and then it's not in my skill with DT, so we all are going through some bad weeks. And I played Pink quite few tries :wacko:

 

If there was rating for Nina, it could be added by me, to place it somewhere in SSL, though I'm doing so rarely, I'm trying to play song before.

Don't forget Maiden songs like Rime Of The Ancient Mariner or When The Wild Wind Blows...those songs are EPIC, long but epic

I think the lenght is not going to be a problem, for now i'm taking a break from DT songs on MC, i will give you a Megadeth challenge :D

My trend continues, better first-run accuracy in the harder songs all around.  I like this song, but still think I'll stick to MC only as my focus for this week.

I think 9-10 would be pretty good, I'd love to see Orion as well. Maybe have it that every x5 is a long song week,,, like week 85 pull from that list.

My main vice with the Dream Theater song is that I have to tune my bass down into C Standard and then play the 14 and a half minute song once or twice then tune it back up. I don't mind D Standard or Drop C. But tuning my first 3 strings down the extra whole step is inconvenient and my bass does not enjoy it. Which I understand those songs are going to come up, just a personal preference. Feels like there have been a ton of songs that are 6-7+ minutes lately.

Tuning is not a problem, it's not happening all the time that we have low tunings in the same class, so I wouldn't demonize it. It's not fun when you can't play a song because of tuning, but that's something we have to live with. I'm trying to not select low tunings back-to-back. It's definitely better if you select E or drop D, also for chances to song be selected, but I think you should be able to select whatever song you want*.

 

 

 

*At least not below C (guitar) and B (bass) for sake of my guitar :P

i know i'm older than most on this site but please tell me i'm not senile already.  when i got the list of songs saturday i would swear that bass went from easiest to hardest: Pink, Helmet, Protest, Fishbone.   usually once i get the list i don't check back until i'm ready to post a score.  is this something i should be doing more frequently, or is there a certain day that things are pretty well set?

I dunno how much better I can get at this. I have a huge burn blister on my fretting thumb from an unfortunate Easter party cooking accident. I was transporting a homemade deep dish pizza with insufficient hand protection, and I got caught in the position of dropping a 4 pound scorching hot pizza on the dog, or blistering my thumb. The thumb lost.

Sorry for not participating the last few weeks just been too busy. Was playing so many songs that I just couldn't keep up. I've now decided to just play the adv/MC songs so that I can have more time. Not a fan of dream theater or tuning so low so won't be playing that. I would also agree that songs over 8 minutes feel more like a chore to play so maybe a limit should be placed but then again there are a lot of great songs that we would miss out on. Tough decision for sure.
