Can't Purchase DLC (Not running through steam)

I'm trying to buy DLC through steam's site since I figured thats the only way to obtain the official DLC. I dont have the game running through steam, I had a friend install Rocksmith another way and the game launches from an icon.

Steam tells me I need to own rocksmith 2014 in order to purchase DLC. Am I out of luck? The song in question is "If it means a lot to you" by A Day to Remember. I don't believe there is cdlc for this song yet.

If anyone can answer this that would be great.

You're not out of luck, you simply (probably) don't own a legit version of Rocksmith 2014.

Lucky for you the game cost less than 30$ in many store and steam christmas sales will probably allow you to buy it (and DLCs too) at a lowered price than they are at the moment.

Next time i wouldn't ask this friend to install games for you since steam will do a much better (quicker too?) and legit job at this ;)

Hey thanks for the reply. My friend was doing me a favor to get the game for free. But like I said, I don't mind paying for DLC. If I could buy it through steam and just move the songs to my dlc folder that I use it would be perfect
