This week is a little different. I scrapped random and decided to have more of a personal aproach.

 

Beginner:  The Beatles - Twist and Shout (Chosen by the genius of George, John, Paul and Ringo )

When I was young I didn't liked The Beatles. You know, I was a boy, playing video games, watching JCVD or Arnold, rooting for Rescue Squad led by squirrels. How could I like love songs sung by British? Now, I can admire the guitar work and crazy bass lines. I wanted to select Beatles for this week, as they're one of the most impressive bands, with lots of great songs. This one is fast, tricky and I like it. I hope you will like it as well :)

Intermediate: Johnny Hallyday - Allumer le Feu (Chosen by @@steroma )

You wanted Elvis Presley? You got one! Well, at least the French Elvis Presley! If you're french speaking person you should be familiar with one of the biggest French RockStars.
Song is really fun to play, with hard solo, and it just fits that Beg bass and rhythm I needed for this week. Sorry Int Leads.

 

Advanced: Iron Maiden - No More Lies (Chosen by @@Joey )

@@Joey is a big part of Championship. He was there when most of us started this adventure. As a man who took over his work, I felt that it'll be great to have him select one of this weeks songs. And he didn't let us down with this fantastic choice!
 

Masterclass: Dream Theater - Octavarium (Chosen by @@Nacholede )

I will tell you a story of a young kid. That kid was a big fan of Octavarium. But when Organizer noticed that he wants this song to be selected, said "no, it's too long". But kid didn't want to let it go. He traveled sea, air, space and time. He reached the Organizer, he begged. But he got a task. A quest, to find the Octavarium. Kid dind't waste any time. He started that dangerous adventure. He traveled around the world, he fought the deadliest monsters, listened to the crappiest music, but couldn't find it. And then it struck him. Octavarium was not far away. It was close. It was in his heart! Organizer seeing kid's love towards that song, decided to approve it and select for week 50.
Maybe that's not exactly what happened, but it's almost true :P

No need to thank me I just took it over after the move from Smithyanvil and this competition was as much for myself as it is for everyone else. I love the competitions and will be participating more often now. Seeing everyone still competing and watching the improvements on a weekly basis was always my motivation for running the championships and its great to see that its still keeps going without me.

Pretty late for difficulty comments, but here's my (subjective) thoughts on Int / Advanced / MC Bass ratings:

 

Twist and Shout - The Beatles: Int Bass

(Score Attack 96.96%, 94 Streak, 928,241 Score)

I like this song, but the sync or something feels a bit off in the custom.  Might just feel that way because I'm still struggling with getting into the groove with the song.

Difficulty:  7-8 -- Quite fast, jumps all over the place, non-static frethand position.  Quite busy throughout the song.

 

No More Lies - Iron Maiden: Adv Bass

(LAS 98% Accuracy, 1060 Streak -- 99.4% Mastery was for playing the song all the way through at 90% speed so don't count that)

Timing/sync feels off to me on this one also, AND the tone is pretty crappy.  After a tone switch it isn't bad but the sync (or my rhythm) feels suspect.
Difficulty:  6 -- Rather fast, but more consistent and simpler transitions.  Frethand stays comparatively static.  After the long intro riff, the song drops down to about a 4-5 on difficulty (note my streak of 1060), whereas Twist and Shout is tough throughout the whole song.

 

Octavarium - Dream Theater: MC Bass

(Repost of my LAS score, 90%)
Difficulty:  8-9 -- Take this with a grain of salt since I played the song only once and just plowed through it without really trying.  But, it felt kind of similar to the Iron Maiden song in that a lot of the song is actually quite easy.  Probably 16-17 of the 20+ minutes are a 4 or so in terms of difficulty, but then accent fills and solos keep you on your toes in parts.  There was a good long section where I didn't even attempt to hit the notes -- it looked plenty hard and I just couldn't be asked to pause and riff repeat in a song that I really wasn't digging at all.  However, maybe with some RR time it wouldn't actually be SO hard -- but I'm not going to find out.

 

 

So, at least for Int/Adv/MC, this week has 3 songs that I think are all quite tough.  I think that personally, I'd put No More Lies in the Int spot for bass, then Twist and Shout for Adv, and finally Octavarium for MC.  But that's just me.  And actually, I think an argument could even be made that it could be Octavarium -> No More Lies -> Twist and Shout for Int/Adv/MC...  My first playthrough accuracy with no RR was higher for Octavarium than either of the other 2, even given the long solo section that I just sat through playing nothing...  :)

 

Or maybe I just suck.

Update on Adv Bass (had to claim my decimal points after seeing your score, @@Rodman!):

100% would be tough, but 99.x% should be doable.

Octavarium has short but insane solo parts, besides it's long so it adds to difficulty. It's maybe not as fast as other two but when it wants to be hard, it beats everything else :)
