Re-Upload CDLC in the original charter's database entry?

Azrael

Question

I have been around for a while and I think that i am familiar with the forum rules, but this problem got me thinking...

In this custom the Lead track does not work (usual freeze-after-tuning-issue).

The user hasn't been online for about three weeks, which is not a long time. But for three month, people have been stating that this problem exists, and it hasn't been fixed.

I just tried repacking the whole CDLC with the toolkit (without changing any content) and that worked perfectly. I also posted an how-to in the comments.

Now my question is: Am I allowed to provide a download link to the repacked version in the comments of an existing database entry? This will help everyone who is not familiar with the toolkit.

According to the FAQ, I am not:

First and most obvious, we want the original creators to get credit for their work!Second and possibly less obvious, Customs Forge is still very new and as such it is important that we attend to the wants and needs of our most essential resource: the content creators! This is our number one priority; after all without the creators there would be no customs! So given this priority and given that some creators have expressly stated that they do not want their customs shared by anyone but themselves, it is in our best interest as a community to have this rule. Why some custom creators want to have exclusive control of when and where their customs are shared is not really relevant.

"Customs Forge is still very new" is writen there because this rule was set in the first days, when posting other peoples CDLC from SA could have brought massive problems.

But this site isn't new any more and new problems need to be adressed: The Adoption System has been introduced, which is a great step in the right direction.

This way, the "exclusive control" rule has already been weakend.

As time moves on, there will be numerous cases where support for customs will stop and/or links to formerly hosted CDLC will become dead.

I think people should be allowed to "continue support" for dead CLDC after a "reasonable amount" of time. If links are posted in the original database entry, then the original charter still gets the credit. (I don't think people should be allowed to create new entries with their fixed versions.) And if the original charter decides to continue support one day, he can just do so.

Of course, all of this would not be possible if we force the "exlusive control". So this is the magic question :-)

Does this community want the "exclusive control", or not?

Regards,

Arzael

Check out my easy tutorial on how to add a metronome to your CDLC: Mute the original music, play only with the metronome and find out how good you really sound! Also: Find CDLCs that have the metronome enabled!

Want a USB-Footswitch that you can use to control the tone selection and all the menus in Rocksmith? Check out Rodman's Tutorial and my additions to that!  Footswitch_Logo.png

My CDLCs: Devin Townsend - Life, Deep Peace, Ih-Ah!, Deadhead; Farin Urlaub - Ok

My ideas for new features in Ignition, e.g. filters for Multitrack CDLC and Metronome CDLC.

There will be a second phase to the adoption system that will take care of this problem. We are still busy with revising the rules of that though.I hope that it'll be done somewhere at the end of the month. So keep an eye out for it ;)

Why would anybody want "exclusive control" in a community based on sharing?

Aren't we supposed to make the difference here, while elsewhere the slightest service claims itself "exclusive" ... to get paid.

The creators of CDLC should be happy if somebody adds improvements to their releases.

Let's take examples of complex bendings or other tech notes, when he can't do it, because he doesn't use Guitar Pro

Or when he doesn't want to mess around with tones, or dynamic difficulty.

Or when difficult Riffs or hand positions can be replaced by easier ways.

"If links are posted in the original database entry, then the original charter still gets the credit."

I agree to you, and the creator can agree or disagree on his page.

People should not be allowed to create new entries with their fixed versions.

It's annoying to have several entries of the same song, specially if names collide, and you want to try them both,

RS2014 only loads one of them.

Lets move on to teamwork, as suggested by "Songsterr"

Well, because of what has already happened more than once. Someone uploads a custom that they didn't create and the original charter gets pissed. One of my customs was reuploaded 8 hours after I posted it,,8 hours. And how do I know that the supposed fixes don't actually screw something up. People need to learn to use the toolkit, period. I am yet to have a custom I couldn't make work. I imagine if it was possible some people would want me to come to their house and show them the riffs first. I say if you want to fix one, redo it, in it's entirety, like I did with Judith, which only had a bass part.

Thanks for this vivid discussion :-)

That's why I suggested "I think people should be allowed to "continue support" for dead CLDC after a "reasonable amount" of time."

Others should only be allowed to re-upload a CDLC, when it is obvious that the support has ended for a longer time (meaning months/weeks, not days)
