SIDE CHALLENGE - Let´s COVER some [26]

Rules? No rules! We pick a song and everybody is invited to share his version. Songs shall be called every week, if you don´t manage to nail your version within the week - entrances are ALWAYS welcome. No winners, no losers, just fun and personal progress, a bit bringing in the harvest of the hard work we all do here every week by converting to own produced music, and (for me very important) learning (easy versions) of songs to be able to play them anytime when a guitar is in the room - and that shall be a part of thinking on the next song selection maybe.

Everyone who has not finished his cover - just post whenever ready in the running week (yes, this one) so we all will recognise it.

This week Any Red Hot Chilli Pepers Song

Well better late than never!!

Winners will be announced later seems like the automatic proccess is having issues again so i might just add the scores manually
OK added them mannualy and winners are up! @ Daz40  are you really in intermediate lead?😮 i thought you were A in all 3 classes. the list says the other 2 are a but lead is i

As always let me know your difficulty ratings and ill try to average it out. Preferably early in the week...like monday just to not cause chaos through out the last days buuut i guess the week already started late so its understandable. anyways numbers are much appreciated

Songs :

Jesus stole my gf- Random song that i found a while back that i liked. Was hoping he fixed the chord fingering since it might be confusing to beginners, (just bar it with a finger dont use 3 fingers) but besides that its a decent chart and easy enough/

Handlebars- good 2000s song. lets not talk about the abomination of logan pauls no handlebars lol.  I made the chart (always kinda cringe selecting my own psarcs) so there might be some mistakes. But if there is let me know and ill fix it!

Hit the floor- Miss bmfv hopefully there will be more revamps of cdlc cause some of them need it. The poison was one of the first physical cds i bought  ( tbf that day i bought like 20 cds ) so i still have strong memories attached to it. Either lead or alt lead should count i think since its the same but different harmonies.. i kinda like alt more.

Dj cassidy-  fun lil bassline. Think it might be a bit over rated since it didnt seem to be that difficult/ almost 100 % it first try but well see

false night- cool little riffy song. Might have over rated all the paths might not be that hard but i did get like 80s on all of them cause its just fast (except for bass i think that one was like 94?).

also i will apologize for the different tunnings :v

I imagine here is where we will post what song will be coverd next.

This week we want you to cover ANY RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS SONG

Feel free to choose your most fav one or just go for Can´t Stop if you trained that already last week. There are great CDLCs for almost all of their songs.

Cannot wait to have those coming in.

Great week everyone!!!!

ok, little advice needed, wifey is going away for a few days, and  I see a small window of opportunity... I mean, what can happen is bound to happen eventually, isn't it? so any advice among those five candidates?

Glad that people still enjoy old bfmv. There will definitely be more bfmv revamps. Some cdlc takes a lot of time to redo, that you start to hate them for a moment🙃

I would go with the Jackson if you like how it looks because it has everything you need for Rocksmith as the others and you can start thinking about upgrades you want after you get some experience with it, use the extra money to also get a digitech drop pedal for alternate tunings lol

I personally wouldn't really use the active pickups on the Yamaha so it would be a waste for me. Ibanez might feel a little better quality in the lower tier models than Jackson so if you can get your hands on them I would do that

Here is my very raw version of NIN - Hand that feeds. Without the crutch of Rocksmith 🫣

So, questions... Is it feasible to remove the sliding sound in the acoustic? Or my best bet is to purchase a cheap eletric guitar? 🎸

Do you use physical pedals to record? Or Audacity plugins? Is it possible to use the tones from Rocksmith?

A cover of RHCP? 🥳

So many possibilities... Under the bridge, Otherside, Aeroplane, Breaking the Girl, By the way, Californication, Scar Tissue, Zephyr Song, Dark Necessities, Give it Away

But most of them I can't play above 95% 🤣

they are all decent brands I have no clue on the models. I kinda prefer to play them in person before buying them as I've bought a couple of basses online and then when they got here i did not like how they felt (some can be uncomfortable size) and returned them, some werent loud enough etc  (so might be a waste of time waiting).

Also I think buying used is always a good option. Most of the time people buy an instrument and then realize its too hard or it was a gift and they leave it unplayed for years. Or you've got people who collect them, about to move and cant take them all, want to sell some to buy an "upgrade", have too many or worst cases die.  Especially with pedals.
Theres very few times when the instrument is defective to the point of it not being salvageable and since its used its cheaper but thats just my opinion.

I probably wouldnt get anything above 400 if its your first bass (unless money isnt an issue? but yea idk 200 to 400 is usually a good starting point imo). OH and one important thing about bass theres Passive and Active. This will probably cause some debate on which is "better" . I havent had any luck with passive basses my main bass is active and I like it alot.

Passive doesnt need a battery but sometimes may sound very low when connecting to an interface or amp and you might need to buy an extra pedal to get that mmft.

Active requires a 9v battery that you switch depending on how much you use it/if you leave it connected (but it can last a long time/ idr how long i switched mine and its an easy access thing usually) and generally doesnt need an extra pedal for volume.

Hey grats on the cover!!

If you dont want a sliding sound you gotta lift up your fret hand more/ before shifting to the next note, no guitar will change that 😛 . Alternatively you can just play the 8 chord on the strings bellow on the 3rd fret might be easier for you .

I generally stick with software on the computer refered as VSTs. theres lots of free ones online just search on yt for best ones like. Also usually daws have effects like audacity has some distortion effects you could try those.

You wont be able to use rocksmith sounds in audacity perse. But if you have it setup to record rocksmith audio while recording a video i guess technically you could go to the tones section and just record a video and import that to your daw if you wanted to.

yea loads of possibilities on rhcp, but they are all pretty complicated for me. I guess i still have to worry about nin first before i attem rhcp

Happy New Week, everyone!

Last night's Dream Theater show was good, but maybe not the best.  The crowd was pretty uninvolved for the first half of the show, not a lot of cheering or applause, and James seemed pretty bummed about not being able to bring higher energy to the crowd and the first half of the show wasn't great.  After intermission, a lot of people left, and the remaining hardcore fans got into it a lot more, the energy and enjoyment level got to where it should be for a good strong show.   Oddly enough, the anti-Swift effect may be at play here.  This show was in a small arena away from large cities, and ticket prices were pretty reasonable (I paid just $45 for a decent seat).  The low prices may have brought a lot of casual fans rather than rabid hardcore fans who would be willing to pay the big bucks if they had to.  I now regret I didn't opt for the higher-priced tickets and take the train up to Boston to see the sold-out show tonight at Berklee School of Music (Petrucci, Myung, and Portnoy founded the band while they were students at Berklee.  The Fourth Wall Blu-Ray is recorded at Berklee, and highly recommended - by me at least, certainly not by my wife..)     Anyway, it's a good day today if  I'm still singing the verse from The Spirit Carries On:

Where did we come from?
Why are we here?
Where do we go when we die?
What lies beyond
And what lay before?
Is anything certain in life?

Nice!! I love how much the bass is leading in this song

I also had so much trouble with the squeaky strings, so frustrating! I couldn't really overcome it, I hope I got a little better but I'm still so so squeaky lol

Here's my cover, it was so fun to do (and also I hated it)

I couldn't really figure out how to stay on key on this one lol had me like ??? and the string squeaks got me so salty

I picked up a used MIDI keyboard this week because I didn't want to keep missing out on the sick synth solos like with The House of the Rising Sun! Having a good time with these, what a rabbit hole

I bought a SR300 many years ago used for like $150 with flats on it.  It is a great bass for the money.  I would recommend.

I'm starting to get the hang of D drop C. Just turned the volume way up an played really softly so the low string doesn't slap the frets. On this song that worked great until the last section, where it's begging you to slam the low string at high intensity.. so I did

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

And once you're tuned to D drop C, you've got to have a go or two at this cover of a Journey classic...

I don't have any advice on the bass selection, and not sure if this even qualifies as relationship advice.  A few weeks ago my wife was waiting for me in the car while I popped into Guitar Center as I often do to pick up strings or picks.   When I came out in a few minutes and presented her with a small gift - Pink Floyd coffee mug inscribed "dark side of the brew" - she quickly caught on and knew that something big  was up, but was not nearly as upset as she might have been otherwise when I wheeled out the Roland FP30X digital piano - could barely even fit the damn thing in the Honda Civic ...

Stop... might i throw in a suggestion:

Marcus Miller Sire P7 or P5

sensational value for money - active and passive (switch)
I use that now for 5 years (the white one) and would instantly rebuy if broken.

Wow. Congrats and thx for participating. Keep those coming!

Love the arrangemebt wit he bass driving the whole thing. Consider giving us some vocals!!
For recording:
The sliding noises - yeah - that´s not depending on your guitar but on your fingers - those noises will get lower on each cover as you will get used to lift the fingers to avoid it.
Also placement of the mic is crucial - place it more towards the body (away from the noisemaking) and overall a little further from the guitar. You can do short samples by moving THE GUITAR INSTEAD OF THE FIXED MIC to get the optimum setup for yourself.

For tones etc... well for acoustic i use the pure acoustic sound captured by a mic, no filters or plugins. For bass - my standard bass tone mainly. For e-guitar  - the tone coming out of my amp (a Line 6 Helix Floorboard). I do hardware recording cause i don´t need to use a mouse or keyboard there on my Zoom R24
R24_top.jpg.800x482_q70_crop_size_canvas

It does absolutely the same as a DAW software, for me the cool thing is i can oldschool mix with switches. It has a few effects i use mainly reverb or delay.
