$RTCV98G.exe - false alert?

Jula

Question

I went to delete the installer after getting everything set up. Just as I clicked "empty recycle bin" Windows Defender popped up and blocked a program called "$RTCV98G.exe" I promptly blocked it and did a scan with my premium version of Malwarebytes. It found nothing, not even a block report. I'm aware of false alerts, but I'm intrigued by the fact its name isn't what the installer is listed as under Windows Defender. Has anyone else had this occur?

Sounds like a temp name given to a file when ran straight from a zip folder, they generally get deleted after running them so it can lead to ghost reports.

It'd probably be best to extract the files properly before running them so you'd know which files are getting blocked. The tools listed on this website should be safe and you can even view the source code on github should you wish to check for anything mallicious.

I think this is the most likely reason, however it wasn't a zip folder for me when I downloaded the installer, just an application ready to go. But yeah it most definitely was a false report.
