Adding count-in to Rocksmith songs

That could be a very useful idea, for those songs that start quite suddenly.

As for "figuring out a way", I think the way could be very simply to mix the count-in sound (e.g. a sampled drums stick or hi-hat sound) into the audio track, using an audio editing software such as Reaper, nothing special needed in the chart itself.

Has anyone figured out a way of adding a count-in (two beats, four beats, etc..) to a song? The goal is to sync band players to a precise beginning of the song...

In EOF, Beat/Rocksmith/Event/Place Rocksmith Event

Then add in the needed number of High tick/Low tick events on the beats.

It is, which is why it's used in odlc songs.

DISCLAIMER: Totally unfamiliar with manipulating .psarc files or the EOF or RS Toolkit programs. Tutorials don't seem to have the answers I am looking for.

1. Downloaded EOF and RS Toolkit

2. Downloaded a .psarc song from CustomsForge library to my downloads folder

3. Opened the EOF and RS Toolkit programs to edit the .psarc but neither program accepts .psarc as a valid format

QUESTION: How do I convert the downloaded .psarc file to .ogg format so that I can use the EOF program to make some edits (i.e. add a count-in)?

Thank you.

I'd recommend using dlc builder over rstoolkit as it's easier to use and more up to date.
You also need the correct version of wwise to convert to/from the .wem audio format.

If you import a .psarc into dlc builder (File/import psarc file) and have these options enabled in settings it'll give you an eof project file in the output folder you can open to mess around with. Once you're done you just rebuild the song with the modified xml files eof generates (assuming you have the import/export settings set to generate rs2 files)

One of these days I'll have to make a proper guide on how to do this and link to that each time something like this gets asked.

Thank you coldrampage. Detailed enough to get me where I need to be, I think. I will past these instructions in the "Tutorials" section of the forum since a few other folks seem to have run into the same issue (with full credit to you the author).

Almost there....placed 4 high pitch ticks (RS Events) just before beat ONE; HOWEVER,

1. Can ONLY hear them by turning the metronome on BUT, by turning on the metronome it will click all throughout the song.

2. The goal is to hear the clicks only for the four beat count-in. What am I missing?

Events have to be placed on beats (the --> arrows at the top). They are placed on the beat you last clicked on, not where the playback cursor currently is. If the beats have an event/section on them they should have a yellow line underneath them. You can also go to beat/events/all events and tick the "views rs events" box and look for the B0/B1 event to see if it worked properly

If you want them to start before the song you need to offset the start of the beatmap 4 times (if it's in 4/4) and place them on those new beats.

Before.
After.

Hearing them for the whole song is probably because you used the "create metronome bonus arrangement" option in rstoolkit which auto applies this event to the whole song.

Ahhh! this helps a lot in solving some of the mysteries I was running onto.

1. Events have to be entered at the arrows on top AND NOT on the grid

2. Events have to be entered individually...Select location, activate drop-down menu, select event type, enter ok for EACH of the selected locations

I was able to do all that and get the yellow markers at each of the locations BUT, I still can't hear them on playback. I am assuming that I should be able to hear the added count-in while still in the edit mode of the EOF program. I will post screen shots of the before and after events are added.

QUESTION: Do I need to upload the file to my Rocksmith library and run the game in order to hear the count-in?

You can only hear the count in by playing the file in rocksmith, if you were hearing it in eof I guess you pressed the M key to activate the metronome.

When you save in eof it should generate a new set of .xml files if you've got these settings enabled in file/preferences/import/export. To make sure you're not using the old ones accidentally when rebuilding the song you can delete the old ones and then resave.

Then you'll have to rebuild the file using dlc builder. There should be a .rs2dlc file in the project folder where you unpacked the psarc, open that in dlc builder, remove the old arrangements (click on them and press delete), click and drag the new xml files into the dlc builder window and press the build release button. It should generate a psarc file in the project folder which you can them put in your dlc folder to see if it worked.

You probably shouldn't have the new psarc and the old one in your dlc folder at the same time since the duplicate dlc keys can cause the game to crash.

BOOOMMMM! Magic.....

Worked as advertised.  Thank you for guiding me through this or I would be pulling my two remaining hairs out. Hopefully a few more players will be able to make good use of this little hack. Kudos to you...

So....after I entered the count in for this song and tried to save it for further processing in the DLC Builder I got the message below.   What should my next step be?  If I select NO will it corrupt the file?

I am not familiar at all with the "tone" function(s) (where to get them and what to do with them).

Since there's only one tone change it is unneeded and can cause an error. You can just remove it and use the default tone slot with no issues.

Track/Rocksmith/tone change/list

Then it'll open up this menu and you can delete them from here. You'll have to do this per track if they all have tone changes.
