custom songs not "recognized"

bought a new laptop recently, downloaded steam and rocksmith and all of the songs that came with it work fine but all of my custom songs downloaded from here don't work.   I get the tuning screen and then when it goes to the screen where the song normally starts it just shows the speakers and nothing.   I can't even ctrl-alt del out, I have to right click the icon on the menu bar and exit.  Anyone else run across this?   What's the fix?

thanks in advance!
