Oh man, this might be a tough week for me. I love Runnin' Down a Dream, but I play with my fingers exclusively, and this song on bass is a constant, unbroken stream of eighth notes throughout (except for the chorus, which is still mostly eighth notes) at 170bpm. I played this song once a few months ago and couldn't even finish i because my fingers got too tired maybe two thirds of the way through.

This song made me think maybe I should learn to play with a pick, though playing with my fingers is one of things I liked about the bass in the first place. I've literally never even touched a bass pick. Matter of fact, I've never even seen one live in person.

I did play the song a second time a couple of weeks ago and did get through it okay, but I don't know how many times in a row I'll be able to manage.

Having a wee problem with Kaiser chiefs. The chart seems off for bass.. I don't mean out of synchronization but the notes when coming to beyond the 6th fret to the twelfth the chart doesn't move so you can see what is coming and it's obscured by the speaker graphics on the screen. makes it very awkward to read. :( Hate to moan about charts but for me I just can't read the chart. Soz'!

I managed Tom Petty (this is the worst song for a bassist :(  Otherwise I quite like TP .)

If KC can be looked into to be aligned so the notes can be read without being hidden  past the edges of the screen that'd be cool... it started out like a nice bass line.

Not bothering with Opeth and Chilies. I used to like Chillies but alas no more :(

(disclaimer, not having a moan about the songs just voicing my observations and opinions, not every week is going to be everyones cup of tea and this week it seems my bag's split :) .)

Every week that I'm in charge of, I always seem to get insane RNG luck. I swear I'm not rigging it! I initially got MC pick again this week on top of the Int, but I rerolled because I felt guilty about how much favour random.org has been showing me.

One of Opeth's best ever tunes. I wonder if I can hit those insane taps if I practice them?

I don't find it to be a big deal.  It's just the same pattern and timing (root - octave - fifth) up one octave starting the G# on the A string instead of the E string.

That being said, I'm only up to 98% so far.  I did change the fingering because I prefer to string skip instead of shift up and down the neck.

That's cool @@2groggy I wish I could do that I am not quite at that stage of being at comfortably naming notes on the fret of my bass and associating them with the sounds I hear. Theory is not my strong point since I stopped playing the flute in 1994 :) I still need to be able to read what's being played :)

I hear ya. I am just now starting on it because I was recouping from last week. I thought my fingers were callused enough, seems they aren't.

I use to use a Dunlop Jazz 3 max grip that Petrucci uses when I transitioned from guitar to bass. I have never seen a sign off wearing on it like my cheapy fender ones did. They lasted about a week on the bass.

I'm not to the point of memorizing the notes of the fret board yet either. To be honest, that's just laziness on my part.  Why do you think I'm a FreeBird?  What I concentrate on is the patterns.  E.G. up 2 strings and up 2 frets up is an octave; up one string and seven frets up  is also an octave; up one string is a fourth, up one string and two frets is a fifth.  But if you ask me to find a G#, I have to start counting on my fingers and toes.  You don't what to know what I do at the 21st fret.  So in reference to my last post... I knew that the patterns were an octave apart before thinking of them as G#5 arpeggios.

Can I call a timeout? Injury on the field. Blood blisters is what I get from playing Tom Petty....and the finger breakers. Pick feels so wrong so this will be it for me I think. I am only left wondering which of the nearly 1400 notes did I miss
