This is about a 6 I reckon. Once you hone the groove and string skippyness it's a piece of weewee. I've not got much time tonight so will play some more tomoggers and try the other tracks.

First, with John the Fisherman, there's nothing "wrong" with playing power chords on bass. I tend not to make too many normative judgments about things in music, where many things are always down to taste (though you argue that having multiple notes ringing out on bass doesn't often sound very pleasing). My point was that if we are talking about whether a technique is "something usable", I think you would struggle to come up with more than a few songs where playing full power chords (as opposed to double stops) quickly with your fingers is essential to the song.

 

And I don't think it's BS to say that you should play what you enjoy. I wholeheartedly agree. But when you say there's not "something usable" in a song that hits most guitar techniques other than tapping and bends, that is BS. You could say that practicing those techniques in this song is not the most efficient use of your time, or not fun for you, both of which might certainly be true. But I don't think you can honestly argue that there's nothing in a song that, in a song that you acknowledge has so many different parts (which I personally like in a challenging song, as there are many different places you can improve, rather than there being little difficulty other than the solo), there's absolutely nothing that would improve your own playing by practicing it.

 

Maybe I'm taking things more personally than I should, but this is the second selection of mine in a row that you've taken the time to slag in the forums. And given that you were the person who was most interested in getting the quality thing going and supplied the majority of the quality ratings, the fact that you've taken the time to attack my customs rather than the ADM (you did note the sync problems, but IMO it was poor enough quality it should have been removed or not been selected), or other older songs like the abomination of a clusterf*** that was the Steve Vai Christmas song (you were freebirding then, so you may not have played it, and it's no longer online. I might still have it if you want to see it, though) does feel kind of personal.

Well after an hour in RR on Tightrope bass, I officially feel funky.  I'm at 96%.  Most of my mistakes are having entire descending pentatonic runs off by a fourth (up or down one string).  So I should be able to make big improvements just by getting to know the song better.

 

Tightrope is not of a genre that I would typically listen to, but it does have a fun bass line to play.

For some reason this song is making my pick dance around in my fingers, i keep missing stuff when i try to get it back to where i want it.  Maybe i need to tighten my grip.  Or get some double-sided tape to put on my fingers.

surfing up 1% on the Apache - Rhythm struggling with 'that' chord that I am sure never existed a few years ago, anyway the score is going in the right direction.....slowly.

 

 

then comes this weeks bass, which i hated but now feel strangely drawn to once i finish shouting at the guitar, strings, cat, doorbell, phone and anything else that interrupts Apache

 

I will be closely following The Deathryder through those gates at the end of the week   :angry:
