We have (luckywise) a great number of new players that didn´t grow through our rules discussions and I have been aked p.m.-wise how the leveling-up is handled and why it is not always like stated in the rules.

 

 

This needs a bit more explanation ;):

~ one year ago the rules were extremely strikt - so on the one hand achieving 99%+ once, or 97%+ 3 times in a row in your class, in a song with matching difficulty (this means songs that land in your class but the diff is below are ignored) automatically led to a levelup. We had repetitive situations where a player was pushed to a class s/he did not belong. And it led to situations were players wouldn´t post their final best scores (!) just to avoid the push. That led to discontent and loss of motivation.

On the other hand when someone desperately wanted to level up to the next class and the wrong songs were chosen he just had to stay down.

We all are a bit more laid back now. This is fun only and everyone should enjoy the CS at his level.

 

 

The rules are interpreted like follows right now:

- You can level up now anytime you want.

- You can stay in your class even on a 99+/97+ 3 times in a row as long as it seems "your class"

 

Still, the situation that is clearly to avoid is a player dominating a class because he is too good and doesn´t belong there! So everyone is watchful and basically it breaks down to: You can stay in your class on levelup scores as long as your classmates and those strange orgas let you.

There yet is small rules, if rate diff. of  songs in own class is in bottom, you can free to get 100% and not worried about level up.

Level up only  for  >=99 and rate:

Beg  3, int 5, adv 7.

All other is above in Rodman`s post.

May be we must remove rules about 3 times 97% in a row, enough decision organizers? Bcs of it seems useless, and same as for 99% participants can don`t post more good score for avoid a row.

my diff rating is up to 5, also on bass a 5 (sorry, 3 was too low rated), but it still fits to Intermediate

for a decent score on bass I need a few more tries, hard are those slides and the middle part needs a look at it first

Simplification is always an option.

 

If we drop the 3x97% rule, which i am for cause you can uplevel at any point anyways, the question is can we find an easier sollution to keep track of DMH and downleveling than the rather time-consuming CCL.

I think... downleveling: simple and fair would be just a single <=79% score with veto-right (you can uplevel anytime) would do the job combined with dropping the rule of losing your class after 3 weeks of non participating.

 

So - what would be left to monitor is DHM only; i am a bit brainless atm but one of us will come up with an idea how to do that easily.

 

What we shall not forget is that those tweaks are "luxury problems", the ruling and handling has evolved to a top notch level esp. thx @@Mortalo

 

If we decide to leave everything as is i was gonna organise auto-maintainance of the CCL and DHM-list, though i fear not before summertime.

Sorry for being MIA a bit the past couple of days. The weekend was pretty busy.

 

Anyway, I played through Iconoclast on bass and lead, and while bass looked pretty much OK to me I noticed a few things that I've messed up or want to take a closer look at on lead, including

1) Fret hand mutes in the chorus outside of the current hand position (and maybe fretboard logic in general during the chorus)

2) Chord slides late-ish in the song (I think after the solo) that I forgot to linknext.

3) There were still a few unpitched slides that I did rather lazily, and probably some slides in the solo that I'll want to doublecheck.

 

I'll try to get these fixed tonight. DId anyone notice anything else that was off? Are there any things you want to practice that aren't near the start of sections?

Will mostly be playing Supergroove this week. I like Amorphis but I'll play later when I can be hooped to retune. Will try improve on Black Sunshine too. I remember practicing my arse off on that track, I did a run through earlier and seemed to find it 100 times easier than I did last time we played it, it was a bit rusty though.  MC? Narp. Might try Mastadon, bassline sounds like it might be a bit catchy but then I have been fooled by these tracks before, but this track sounds particularly pleasing to my ears (which is unusual for Mastadon to have such an effect, for me at least.)

I fixed the things that I mentioned on Iconoclast and put it into the download folder. It's version 3.2 now. Apparently some of the time sigs got messed up somewhere, but I'm OK with that for the moment as I don't want to recreate things from scratch on something this big.

 

Anyway, here's how things have gone for me.

 

Lead:

Not sure how much working on the :blink: solo will help, but I'll probably try to at least get the hand positions down. I think I can get to 94% on this by the end of the week if I really apply myself, but I will probably fall short.

 

Bass:

http://i.imgur.com/YtCs1Y7.jpgThe big problem for me on this are the tapping and pre-verse riffs. Should be able to get this above 99% with more practice, but I'm not sure how far above that I can get.

 

@@NoonyDeloony - I understand if you feel things are too far above your level for playing the whole song through to be worthwhile, but I'd definitely recommend working on some of the riffs in the song. In particular, the pre-solo, solo, and chorus riffs (and maybe the verse riff) should be tricky but somewhat manageable and good to learn from. The pre-verse riff might also be good to practice at a slower speed.

 

 

Now turning to a sadder subject. You may know I'm a pretty big Riverside fan, and as you may have heard, their guitarist Piotr Grudziński passed away yesterday. His playing was rather reminiscent of David Gilmour's in that it's much more about phrasing and emotion rather than sheer technicality. Anyway, here's one of my favorite solos of his (through to the end of the song).

That is an interesting case. Technically Oscar has won the adv class last week with a score 99+, levels up with that (so this week he is mc), and he has already taken place #3 in mc last week so he wears the bronze pick of mc, and cannot wear the adv pick.

If you are to wear the gold or silver of adv (i feel silver if ruled like above) can be discussed.

Didn't expected such a high score, as half of the song I was only watching. It's painful to sit through those 10 minutes. Way too long...
