Rocksmith 2014 Championship Week 111

Mortalo

Recommended Posts

Made another change to Harvester of Sorrow (now 2.1, and hosted it in a folder with 2.0), which is in some ways minor (only changing the chord slides a bit so that the shape more closely reflects the sound of the song. Also checking bass picked ;)), but in some ways major (the chord slides now seem to count as three notes, so if you're good at them you can build up a streak really fast, but if you're bad at them they'll wreck you), and also moved it into. Since this changes how percentages work pretty significantly, I could understand wanting to stick with 2.0. I might be able to reduce the 3 notes the chord slides count as to 2 if I slap an ignore on the sustain after the slide without affecting how it plays.

After putting in some practice on the chorus riff and the solo, I came up with these. Feel free to disregard the scores if you don't like how things count in the new version.

Anyway, this is feeling pretty good right now. Might even try recording a guitar video this week!

Also, why is everyone else's version of Get Lucky different from mine? Mine has sustains all over the place (hence the unusually high score).

A little improvement on Danzig / She Rides : http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/395552593960464587/0AC4A1304CFF11BD6F15B10600E6E52053D6FFD0/

I have some difficulties with the recognition of the 'double-slide' from 7 to 9 on the D/G chords : http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/395552593960494663/7BA5F3455362980B69CA4308AD90F312A3194B7D/

@@Sebastien92 I have same issue. I checked chart in EOF and GP, there linked double stop at 9th fret. So you can strum this yet at 9th fret in the end slide. And yet need to play all notes early, all shifted.

Or you can try increase gain in setting RS. And yet in the end a song is mistake with this double stop, where must be same slide, RS don`t show it, bcs of slide marked as slide 7to 7 and then unlinked 9.

i don`t know how @@fiddlesticks got there 99.59%

Also missed all bends at 4th string. (7 and 10 fret), they is in chart, but not show in RS.

Neither of my bass' like the tuning on Machine Head so I've had to scrap that, shame as I can play it, the notes just aren't registering at that pitch.

Update for Adv, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571753817. Getting bored of Metallica pretty quick, but I'll push for 100% because I'm anally retentive. Will also work a bit more on improving the play of Daft Punk as I was pretty delirious on flu medication and a high fever while playing that. I feel like an athlete that out performed their best time raising suspicion that they must've been on drugs... which is pretty much the case :) but just with the poor performance and crazy 100% accuracy... something's deffo up with that! :)

@ - I just tried She Rides and got 99.31% (this was really my second playthrough - the first I restarted halfway through since I sucked). I had three misses on those slides (the first one, one just about in the middle of the song, and one of the last ones. I think the second to last) to go with two "derps" on the chords. If you remove those chord misses, that would put me on par with @@fiddlesticks. I might have done an "insurance strum" at the end of the slide sometimes, but they're definitely hittable.

Also, what you mention with the bends: how would a bend that's in EoF not end up in Rocksmith? I'm not sure I've ever seen or heard of that happening.

@@NoonyDeloony - You could try to do the same thing I recommended to @@fiddlesticks with emulating bass on your bass. You'll have to be wary of a couple things in the second chorus where they play octaves, but other than that it should be quite playable on your D and G strings.

Also, it looks like "Get Lucky" was rated as an 8 in difficulty. Too bad it's not one of the official songs this week, or you'd be in MC.  ;)

@ - Yeah, pretty much anything that makes me feel like I have to appease the game rather than sound like the song makes me frustrated. It's OK when it comes to playing songs for fun, but when it comes to competition like this it seems silly to have to deliberately misplay things to get a higher score.

Completely agree. When it sounds right, but the game tells you it's wrong - or vice versa - you get mixed signals, and it's just confusing and annoying.

I'm at the level now where if the note charting is wrong, and I'm not playing for the competition, I would much rather disregard the erroneous part of the chart and take a miss or three on my score than match the incorrect chart. Something that comes to mind immediately is the unpitched slides in Fall To Pieces that we played a few weeks back. Every time I had to end those slides on specific frets when my ears were telling me that it sounded awful just so I could max out my accuracy, ffffffff.

"Shitty" guitarist can be happy, bcs of can to play many of cdlc and have fun. More good guitarist can not, bcs of very annoying wrong (or missed) notes, bad positions, bad beatmap, bad tones, not such a great choice of cdlc for enjoy.

The deadly CLDC sins. Now that my library is getting bigger, I have such a large selection of songs where I don't have to deal with any of these things that I find myself not ever playing any songs with these problems, even when I really like them.

http://i.imgur.com/1FdzAvL.jpg

Speaking of which, I don't have anything today besides an Int update. After playing it a few more times my ears tell me a lot of things about this are off. Not only is the beatmap off like Motive pointed out, and there's uncharted bends/prebends as Monsta pointed out, but I think a lot of the notes are just straight wrong, too. It's not the worst chart I've ever seen, but it gets pretty far off at times.

Slowly making my way down to the ultra low tuning, might end up giving Locust a go tonight.

Wicked game 99.73% I think.

I think I'm at the level of playing Hard, but that Metallica song... meh. Not willing to invest much time in it. I'll try Daft Punk. 92.97%. I think the last time I tried it, I always got three strikes. Improvement!

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=573070903

And the blues in 8, 89.68% on first try.

@@albatross213 I tried to play in RR with slow speed, used diff ways - fast or slow slide, diff fingers for pressing, calibrate and tuning -> no matter, almost all slides is missed, some time 2 notes at one slide. And yet plus a few riffs bcs of bad timing in chart. So i one of those who have problems there, and it not depend of technique.

@: Thank You for the advices ! :)  I used to strum at the 9th fret after the slides and I avoided so some misses (but not all )!. I also changed the gain of my cable from -1.2 to -0.7.

I'm a bit late with my first scores, most of them were done on Sunday.  I'm not going to be stealing any trophies this week though, so I don't think anyone can object. :)

I've never heard this song before (seriously) and I managed to f*ck it up...

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKR2tjdDd6NjBkWGs/view?usp=sharing

Now, this one I have heard before, and I've even played it before, and got 100% first time, so it was nice to do it again with consistency.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKT3Axc0s0eGZ6RE0/view?usp=sharing

I've never heard this one before, either, and I didn't like it the first time I played it.  So I played it again.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKM1FEcEo1NDdEeGc/view?usp=sharing

I still didn't like it. :)

In fact my first go was better than my second, so I think I'm going to park this one here.

This one I have heard and played a couple of times before.  This is probably not my best score on it, but it's my best score form this time around.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKamxEaXJmY1R5SVk/view?usp=sharing

I may play it again, but I'm so busy just playing random songs that I haven't been able to play in my time off.  I've also got to watch the time that I am playing as my hand is looking quite swollen at the moment. :(

Li'l'  update on Da Capo challenge : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=572385876

Heaps smoother, just the odd random miss, plucking fingers are keeping better rhythm though not to my satisfaction. I can't really see what I'm doing differently, it feels like I am plucking the right way but looks nothing like other bassists who have the "correct" technique, I blame having massively long palms as well as massive long fingers, the palm-to-thumb rest-to-fingering strings ratio is just not balanced, I have no choice but to curl my fingers or I'd be flapping my fingers on my leg :(

Pssst,,, hey,,, you,   yeah, you. Do you think I should offend the Freebird Police again?  I've been so good for so long.  Well it's too late.  I went and played this for its maiden song.   What do you mean "wtf is it?"?  It's a travel bass.  It's headless to save space and improve balance and I put on the thickest four strings from a five string set so they don't flop around like an elephant's ear when tuned normally.  The whole thing is only 30 inches long.  It's like playing a guitar strung with the cables for a suspension bridge.  Here they come - gotta go.  Tell them that I went the other way.

Why stop there?  Well, I didn't.  Daft Punk was the next.I decided to try the Alternate Bass track in honor of the alternate bass., but I couldn't notice a difference.  I ended up with 97% but it felt like worse.  I'll have to get used to the short scale length and put a thumb rest and some strap buttons on to hold the bass still.

I'm going to sneak away now before the you-know-who get back.

So, last night I did this on Harvester of Sorrow:

http://i.imgur.com/HpYjBNy.jpg*Checks Championship Class Lists*

So, uh, maybe this last version of Harvester shouldn't count...

Fast forwarding to tonight, I downtuned to play Locust...

and I guess that put tension on a weak part of the string that had previously been wrapped around the post, because my e promptly snapped. So I spent some time putting on my first full set of new strings (and trying to do a better job wrapping them than I did with the e last time. I'd broken it mid-score attack run on a bend a while back and had to replace the original one).

After that, I finally managed to play Locust.

Rhythm: Sightread, (then lead sightread), then some practice, then this

http://i.imgur.com/QrLScxb.jpg

Detection of the drop power chords is kind of shitty. I'll see if I can figure out if I can do some tweaks to make it better. Also kind of suck at the, uh, red 10 orange 9 chord. Might not be muting the things in between properly.

Lead:

http://i.imgur.com/Hsevl0b.jpgAs I said, this was a sightread. Should be able to do a lot better with practice.

Anyway, a few comments to @@Nacholede:

-In places where there are stretches across the fretboard the automatically generated FHP goes crazy as it tries to set a new FHP every time you go outside of the usual 4-fret zone. Not only does this not help by giving you useful FHP, it's also pretty distracting visually and makes it harder to read where things are. This occurs a few times throughout the song on lead, I think during the pre-chorus ("Forming clouds...", where there's a 8-12 pattern) and during the solo (where there's a wider pattern I can't remember). This can be fixed by removing FHP from that region (assuming you've generated the FHP rather than just having EoF do them when you save. If not, generate them first) by selecting the notes, then going to Notes -> Rocksmith -> Remove FHPs. Then put in the appropriate FHP by navigating to the notes where you want them to start, Shift+F, then entering the fret number. From what I remember each time this happens you might only have to add one FHP, so fixing this shouldn't require too much effort.

-During the "Hark the angels sing" part on rhythm it would be nice to have arpeggios or handshapes. Not a big deal, though, as it doesn't take much practice to get used to that section.

-After that part, it would be nice to have the a section for the higher part (frets 13-17) separate from the lower part (frets 9-13). While the riffs are very similar, I find myself messing the higher part up more often because I'm not fully used to the fret spacing up there, and it would be nice to be able to practice that part without the first part.

Right now it's a very good custom, but with some improvements it could be one of the best on here.
