Update time.

And the award for most out of place sounding guitar riff goes to:

http://s29.postimg.org/xbki82von/jon_spencer_full_grown_lead.png

Rocking drum intro, aggressive lyrics and vocals, and then a plinky little guitar line - I actually laughed the first time I heard it !

http://s16.postimg.org/8ksapro5x/la_sera_love_that_s_gone_rhythm.png

I remember playing this song the first day I got RS2014, couldn't make much inroads into it at the time and I always thought that I'll know I've improved when I can play this song. Been meaning to tackle it for a while now actually.

http://s30.postimg.org/yql7hno9t/nomeansno_it_s_catching_up_bass.png

Exhausting on the fretting hand ! Can only play it a handful of times before I have to stop.

Some updates n' stuff.

Nina Simone: I think this was my first score over 3M. Probably because everything has a sustain. Not trivial, but I found it pretty easy.

The Offspring: Pretty fun bassline.

Love That's Gone (rhythm): Yup. I still suck at chords. At this point it's mainly the F# ones that F# me up. Also, is it just me or after the intro (where there's a slide) is there any reason I shouldn't play the A and D chords starting on the A (or even the D, I guess) string? I can manage the alternative handshape, but given fret hand positions and the triviality of the "extended power chord" shape I can't see why you'd choose to play it the other way in this context.

It's Catching Up (lead):

http://i.imgur.com/uKJCLNH.jpgDafuq is happening in the bridge sections? Not sure I care that much, but I'll definitely need to slow it down in RR to wrap my head around it.

It's Catching Up (bass):

http://i.imgur.com/JarW69X.jpgI messed up one of the last notes in the verse riff before the outro. Tried playing it a few more times (Ow!) but never got better than one miss, and obviously didn't beat this streak. 100% is so close but I haven't quite gotten it yet. Anyway, I imagine it will require 100% to beat this.

After getting some dinner (a.k.a. resting my fingers a bit), I managed this:

Fellow MC bassists, while I have your attention: At the moment two songs I've just selected are the only songs that have bass ratings above a 7 (though there are some others in the bass only list - if you can find any worthy guitar only songs to pair them with, I'd like to see most of those). Unless you wish to subject yourselves to my tastes/songs I want to learn, I suggest you all put one or two higher level bass songs on the SSL.

Getting somewhat less embarrasingly bad at the int guitar parts.

Rhythm:

http://i.imgur.com/JmvAP57.jpgKind of randomly fell apart for one section (where I got the strike), but the rest were yellow or green. Should be able to take this to at least 97 by the end of the week.

Lead:

http://i.imgur.com/5Uf3ma4.jpgI suck at the C#m chord. I'm also pretty bad at the transition from the E chord to D chord. Solo isn't too bad, but I definitely won't be hitting everything in it (I tend to get the fingering backwards on some of the chords, and some of the chords with hopos I find pretty awkward).

@@Nacholede - Just curious, for the rapid power chord shifts in "Pretty Fly", do you play them by shifting your hand or by alternating between 1+3 and 2+4 fingering? I remember something like the latter came up in some discussion of a Metallica song a while ago (though I guess this is a bit different because this is a full power chord rather than just the fifth).

Beginner Lead http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=551460747#_=_

Tiny bit more progress. I can play the double stop riff at 80% speed almost flawlessly, but as soon as I try it in the song my fingers herp derp.

I tried love that's gone and yeah I don't see myself play it anytime soon. I'm not very good with some chord voicings and I have a very difficult time getting the finger tip joint of my ring finger to actually bend. It bends more now than it used to, but I did a lot of damage to it back in the day bowling. I think it is slowly getting some mobility back, but it's been very slow.

@@albatross213 The Offspring guitarist moves around as many other punk rock guitarist does. The spider technique which use the 2/4 for fifth is mostly exclusively used by Dave Mustaine as far as i know.

Tried the int lead. I know this is on disc, but I'm not sure I've ever played it before.

Did almost 80% on Mr. Crowley too, but ate a bunch of food and missed the screenshot. That's okay, I want an even 80 before I post it anyway.

Well, after a hiatus for a few months I've come back.  Hopefully, I'll be able to start participating in the beginner bass ranks again this week.  I'm probably going to take it a bit slowly, as one thing I have discovered is that I made some serious 'omissions' in my fret hand technique development.

That Metallica song was Orion, but it has different chords (I still don't remember names of many chords :P ), etc. On Pretty Fly I was always shifting, though spider technique (cool name) came handy few times in my life (literally few).

MC Bass: hit the 100%, still a long way to go to get the top score though.

If you want an early benchmark, I think my best runs got me to about 95,700 in the break after the slide at the end of the first chorus.

The verse riff is probably the riff I did best on, though, as I mostly (90%?) got perfects. Things where the same note is repeated (most of the chorus, long strings of A's) I mostly get goods, with a few perfects and earlies mixed in. The other riffs I think I was mostly getting goods, though I'd have expected/hoped for more perfects.

Pretty Fly was one of the first songs i ever learnt, and for that part, i just shift my hand, and use alternate picking in almost the whole song!

Still no improvement for me on Mr Crowley.

It seems much easier with a pick, but I'm a lot more accurate with my fingers.  Is this supposed to be picked?

Edit:

I'm quite pleased with this, though:

A year ago, I would never have been able to play a song like this.  I still need to work on my little finger, and sometimes these fast championship songs just don't help.  Still, I know what my problem is, as I say, I need to work on it.  This might be my warm up song from now on… :)

A miniscule improvement. tend to just keep playing this right the way through in SA multiple times rather than using RR. It's a nice pace already to learn I just need to be a bit luckier with note recognition then I'll be happy... 100% accuracy would be nice but I'm missing some really annoying notes that sound good to my ear but according to RS, it's a miss
