Rocksmith 2014 Championship Week 102

Recommended Posts

Elvis Costello: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=529955804This is an old screen shot, I'm a bit hungover and tired to try improve tonight, but my state of self inflicted health issues are indicative in the Beginner and Adv attempts ...

B: Pearl Jam, I love these guys... but not today, tomorrow I will love them again :)

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=529957548

A: Fishbone, I love this bass line but for some reason it's really hurting my wrist...

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=529958341Obviously this screenie doesn't count since the accuracy is obscured but i can confirm, it's pretty shit :)

here comes Elvis  :postal_horn:

only one note

Barres and powerchords, relatively quick shifted. Nice practice song, still beginner but advanced beginner I think, 3-4.

It intermediates between Beginner and Intermediate :D

Just the pne play though for my adv lead class - wasn't expecting to enjoy this, but it's actually quite good :)

With a bit of practice I should be able to get a decent score.

Many plays for Pearl Jam though, love the band and really like this song !

I think it rates higher than a 2 for difficulty though.

Not much else piquing my interest this week, might give Annihilator rhythm a go at some point.

Cholly on bass isn't up to speed yet.  Same thing with Pump it Up on bass.  I'm at 92% so far

Int Lead: Still screw up the barres all the freaking time. Had one stretch where I hit them consistently, though. Also, every time I've played this I've failed the first section...

http://i.imgur.com/Jn9oizg.jpg

Adv Lead: RR'ed stuff in the first half of the song and have a pretty good grip on that at the moment, though I'm still not great at the arpeggios. Second half could still use some work. During the last run of chords I think I placed one of my fingers on the wrong string for a while.

http://i.imgur.com/gSycPz7.jpg

Adv (not MC, but still a hell of a lot harder than Seek and Destroy) Rhythm: Yeah, my picking was atrocious here. Should be able to get this close to 90% if I can get my picking hand on board. Still not used to shifting so damn much for chords, though.

This song is the easiest Adv Lead has seen in a long time. The swingyness might throw some people off, but not me!

I can't beat my Alison Hell score no matter how hard I try, I just keep tying myself. :( I don't even know what to RR, the solo shifts are completely over my head.

We should handle the difficulty ratings more carefully in general I think. I didn't played that song by now, but like @albatross213 said if there are lots of barre chords and also with extensions it would be not really a beginner song, and if it'd be advanced beginner, whats probably 3-4. I'll play this song later for sure and give my rating.

That made me think.

And it made me investigate.

..

Really unexpected result is that the feeling that this song is "very easy" as i stated results from that in INT lead class - going back till week 85 we had straight 6 difficulty except two 5s and one 4 (2x Jethro Tull and once Royal Republic). Compared to e.g. the buckethead song or beelzeboss or mars volta that one fells like a cakewalk with moreless one fingerposition and a few shifts and no solo.

Still for beginner the shifts are damn fast - that is not a 2.

The points that its rather a (hard - 3) beginner than an (easy - 4) int for me is that my first very sloppy (i watched my son play pro evo soccer) run yielded in a 93 and i was instantly sure all the int players would break the 99. level up mark if one keeps pushing within the week and on the other hand that it is an excellent song for a BEG to try if he is ready for a level up cause of the relatively simple structure.

Funny thing we had so challenging int songs, and yes its hard to handle diff ratings carefully and satisfying for all.

I may change Costello into Beg/Int and add proper Int song (though the one we played already) but I have to play Pearl Jam and Costello again.

And thanks to @ for great job on his first week.

Annihilator:

Advanced Rhythm - 91%, 135 streak

I can agree with 9 for lead, and I can't disagree with 8 for rhythm (trololo).

Fishbone:

Advanced Lead - 89%, 82 streak

Fishbone, yay not :P 7 is fair for difficulty.

Elvis:

Intermediate Lead - 95%, 91 streak

And Pearl Jam:

Beginner Lead - 96.51%, 99 streak

Great song by Pearl Jam. And it has many power chord shifts. More then Elvis, has little simple solo, sounds good for Beginner, but looks more complicated then Elvis?

I began to work on the 'Pear Jam' song on lead; this song is agreable but rather fast for me (130bpm, with about 7 notes by measure for the power cords parts). Over 110bpm I find it becomes difficult. And the solo is not easy too.

Anyway, I'm happy to discover this group I had heard of, and I think this song will make me progress in ! :-)

Adv Bass: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=530484189After 5 mins in RR I did this second playthrough still with cold hands, I have a suspicion it's a tad simpler than advanced. A high intermediate 5.5ish.

Now I also think this belongs more to Intermediate. here are "only" power chords, but fast changing and for beginners the rhythm would be too fast, needs good alternate strumming at a good speed. Maybe similar dificult than the Pump It Up song, maybe little bit harder. The solo is easy if you know the positions, but those bends inside never could be registered. So for Dif my tip is 4.

http://up.picr.de/23317619pc.jpg

can we still switch Pearl Jam and Elvis C?

Intermediate Bass: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=530512063

I noticed my old screen shot had 9 plays to get my first 100% on this song and since then I've played this track a fair bit (35 times more apparently, not counting restarts) I tend to play it every other night or so but the main aim is to commit it to memory... I'm almost there so if I can play it in master mode by the end of the week I'll be happy :)

I do love this song. Thanks @@manchot66 for the happiness :)

Here's a video! (and a jumper!)

Some updates.

Beg Lead:

http://i.imgur.com/TxDnVIg.jpgCan't hit those bends worth shit. Are they supposed to be 3 half steps (i.e. from B to D)? In the tuner that appears when you pause I can only get it halfway between Db and D, and by that time I'm at the D string. And I'm not sure I can really push much harder, especially when I've got four strings pushing back.

Anyway, I wouldn't object to this being the intermediate song. Would still be pretty hard to advance (only ~520 notes, so with the 3 big bends and fast chord shifts, there's not much room for error).

Adv Lead:

http://i.imgur.com/l7UOSYS.jpgWhat's that? This isn't eligible because you randomly down-leveled me on a short phrase in the middle of a 95% run (that still achieved 95% mastery)? Fuck you too, Rocksmith! (Though this wasn't as bad as when I got down-leveled playing Empire of the Clouds on a 99%+ run. In the middle of a streak. That was really silly)

Anyway, I'll be returning for a run that actually counts at some point, but that's enough of that for now. I'd agree with @@Gamut that this is pretty easy for advanced lead. Might actually say it's easier than the Seek & Destroy rhythm from week 100. Some of the chord shifting stuff in the latter half looked tricky at first, but once I slowed it down and had time to actually think about how to finger it everything fell into place pretty quickly.

I think the beg & int lead songs are fine where they are. Yes, Pearl Jam is fast but they are only power chords so you keep the same hand shape throughout the song. The solo is short and easyish once RR'd a few times.

Elvis has bar chords and a quick change to a completely different hand shape. I'm struggling with this change to the A# & A; I can only hit it 50% of the time at full speed.
