Tablature

Shad

Question

I know I am meant to learn these songs in the game but good old fashioned tablature is what I have to turn to when I really want to learn something with a lot of notes crammed into a short amount of time. I took the suggestions from people like me that prefer to use both tab and the game to learn a song, and started just going to youtube and pausing, then manually tabbing by hand what they are playing by watching the note highway. Biggest problem is that leaves a lot of room for error (especially when they play w/o strings inverted) so I was hoping it was possible to include a pdf. of the tablature used to created the custom or a link to the online tab that was used so we can print it off and use it as an additional supplement to learn these songs.

A second thing I would really love to see is an agreed upon format for naming the files. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but I try to keep all mine in this format so I don't have duplicates and can easily check my folder to see what I have and what I still need.

Band_Name_Song_Name_Version_p.psarc

Would like to close by saying thanks to all the people that have put in so much time already to make this site and all these custom songs. There was so much available here that I actually bought the game again for my cpu and another copy for a buddy and his cpu. Now I just need to figure out how to import all my dl's I bought on xbox up here and I will have like 600+ songs

Thanks everyone.  Shad

I just wanted to comment that I personally do not like the band name - song name - version because that requires the user to delete the older version, when it's easier for them just to overwrite it. I personally have my customs as Band Name - Song Name_p.psarc (btw had to edit your post, you had Version.p.psarc which wouldn't work)I had 3 copies of metallia one once because I thought it was the same file name >.>

Thanks for the edit. Your way works fine with me too.

What I am mainly looking for is just consistency for the same reason, I was/am ending up with a lot of duplicates. Part of my very large collection came from one mass download. Have tried renaming as many as possible but I simply don't know who some of them are, and quite a few were named something weird like sm_tcob_p.psarc . You don't know what it is til you download taking care of business by bto,  and find out you now have 2 when you play the game (don't really have that song, just an example). Hard to ever track the other one down when its creatorsinitials_abbreviatedsongtitle and would hate to delete the wrong one and lose a loved song.

Most people maintain charts in EoF so changes are not propagated back to tab but I provide master tabs via my workshop (100% what is in Rocksmith, even more if it includes unsupported techniques).

And everyone has their own idea of perfect naming.  But I would definitely like to have band name, song name and version in the name (whatever formatting it might be) so I can see what it is and if it's the latest version.

Yeah I have since thinned it out a lot and got it down to about 450 songs. Probably have about 50 that don't work, really wish I knew how to fix them since some are ones I really wanted to learn like Southern cross (neil young) and Glory days (B. Springsteen). I tried opening toolkit 2.5 to convert them to cherub rock but that didn't fix them though it did a few others.

On the Tablature, not quite sure what this meant

"Most people maintain charts in EOF so changes are not propagated back to tab."

Does that mean it would be incorrect in the end, or not possible to link to the tab used ? Something like just a link to the tab used would work 100x better (for me at least) than trying to go to youtube and watch someone play the song while pausing to try to transcribe the notes to tab myself.

I always end that process in fear that I am learning the song wrong that way because of an error I might have made during transcription no matter how many times I double check  :(

I don't use straight tabs for the most part.  Usually it's a combination of whatever meager tabs I can find, a video or two (or three), and listening really hard.  The ones done straight from tabs are from physical tab books.  It would be difficult for me to provide sources for a lot of songs.

Is it a copyright infringement to link the tab used if it is out of a book? Scanning them in should be pretty easy unless that is the case, which it usually is :(

The GuitarPro file I'm working with right now was almost definitely copied from tab from a book (which I also own), since it contains exactly the same mistakes :-P

I agree with the CDLCs name standardisation, but the thing is that it would be quite hard to have every poster follow a single rule. I rename every CDLC I download "Bandname - Songname_version_altversion_p.psarc".

I also keep every version I download, because with the original Rocksmith CDLCs I sometimes had new versions completely fucked up so I had to go back to the old one. It's also a way to keep kind of a database, in case someone needs an older version to restart from. I don't download every song I see, only the ones I like - so I don't have that much on my folder, which also makes it easier to keep it "clean".

When I get new CDLCs, I put them in a folder called "New", so I know which songs I have to check for older versions on the steam folder. When I end checking, I take the CDLCs from the "New" folder and send them to the archive folder so I can keep every versions of each one. Quite a pain in the ass, but it works well avoiding duplicates.

BTW, the tabs idea would really mean a lot of supp. work. For exemple, I am thinking of a song I'm working on for quite a long time, which I could find no complete tabs for, and had to mix 3 different ones (they where not complete/partially wrong/not in tune) and tab more than the half of the song all by myself. The song lasts for more than 14 minutes ("Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic) and I would not imagine translating all that work to a pdf tab. Still the idea of making tabs from the CDLC is great, because it would mean we can play it outside from the game with a friend without having to level up another game profile everytime...
