Rocksmith 2014 Championship Week 82

Recommended Posts

I really think @@Kaijin should be the obvious prove to move friggin' morissette to intermediate and Ac/dC to masterclass (it happens to me as well mate ^^). Just my opinion.

I didn't said anything yesterday because I thought is was just me.... sometimes there are songs/arrangements from the classes above the ones I'm at that I can get better scores, but that's just occasionally, which I thought it was the same with this week's songs.

Thanks for "voice out" your opinion @@bernixix, I wouldn't say anything for sure. :D

As far as I'm concerned @@Mortalo, feel free to change the songs classes. :)

@ Dude, don't hide on this one! I'd like to hear your voice there :D... usually yours is a judicious one, and like what you say ^^ Mortalo says morissette more difficult than big gun...... cough cough lol

@@lordlk thanks so much for the selection dude! its rocking my pants off :D ^^

I got a question on technique from the bass line for Munich.  I'm sure I saw at least two instances where it called for playing two notes on the same string at the same time.  How does that work?  At first I thought it might have been caused by too many beers, but then I realized I ran out of beer a couple of days ago...

I'm no bassist and i don't own a bass, but i agree with @Mortalo on this one.  Big gun confused me the first time i played it in lead (the riff is the same as bass) but this time i new what to expect and it was no problem at all.

I won't say the opposite, like I stated in the previous post, I think it's just a matter of the type of arrangement.... I don't know about @@bernixix, but in my case, both on guitar and bass, the part that I get completely http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-whacky011.gif is the "verse" (I never know how to properly call a section of a song ), with the open E, E7, A5, open E, E5, A4, etc. (I think I got that right...).

My fingers just can't cope with what's on the screen, I usually sight read pretty well (but I can't say the same about the fingers reaction ), but this type of pattern just confuses me completely.

I never use RR, but yesterday I used it to see what was the max speed that I could play that section.... both on guitar and bass, >80% speed, misses start to appear. I guess we all have our "weaknesses", in my case, this type of arrangements is a huge one.

That being said, I totally understand if @@Mortalo don't change the current classes of the bass arrangements.

I had to check out those note.

I think its a mistake. As far as i know its impossible to play that.

I was going to check that myself.... I didn't noticed it while playing, but I agree with you, it looks like a mistake, I don't see any way possible to play that....

some first runs on the bass

Munich Bass

Songs like that still are tough on my fingers. Non-stop picking/plucking is exhausting.

@@MaZtoR i played that as a quick alternate (6-3-6-3) and that was fine.

Big Gun Bass

Awesome song ;D lots of fun

Cities on Flame with Rock n Roll Bass

You Oughta Know Bass

Those last 2 feel the same in difficulty. Theres nothing really hard, but it needs a look into RR to get it right.

cheers!

Big Gun - when I played it 1st time on lead, riff took me off guard. 2nd time (on rhythm) it was not difficult at all, it became second nature. Bass is just that riff, with time, you're get it. I believe in you :)

I was talking about BOC and Morisette, because CIties on Flame has one tricky fast part that repeats, while on Morisette bass is more complex and I felt that it'll be much harder to make it sound properly. @ and @ are welcome to comment :)

All of these songs I played once through on "Learn a song" then once through on score attack. No use of RR or anything like that, even on the sections I wanted to use it.

Difficulties seem to make sense to me. The Big Gun riff is pretty tricky, but it's not that bad and it's one of like two riffs in the song.

The Alanis Morissette I probably did especially bad on because of lots of string skipping and (sometimes unnecessary) fret hopping and such in the verses. I should be able to get a handle on it before too long with RR (but why is the second verse one big section? The first verse had two sections that were just muted and unmuted E2's.). In Cities on Flame I had trouble reading one of the riffs at the end in real time, so I'll probably just RR it to figure it out and memorize it if I want to do better.

First thing's first, Cities on Flame is very wrong on a series of notes on bass, and it sounds nasty

its in the verse, heres a screen of one of them

its a 3 on the A, definitely should be a 4....makes me cringe every time i hear it

Now for my review of the three potential songs (with scores)

First off, Big Gun, definitely not even in the same league as these two so uhh...keep it in Intermediate...Downpicks, thumbs, and using two fingers upstrumming all work, and I can do that in my sleep. (and that hurts me to say because this is my favorite of the three to listen to and to play :/ )

http://s3.postimg.org/4fz4hmwpv/2015_05_17_00003.jpg

Cities on Flame: Okay I see the argument here, the main riff is a bit tricky and the bridge has its quirks, definitely hard to sight read, but thats about it. I do believe these two songs are on the same skill level, but what keeps this song in advanced is the lack of diversity, if this goes to MC Bass it can and will go to 100% MM, whereas Alanis would be near impossible to memorize like that with all of the skips and grooves.

Big Gun, ran through it a couple of times, can't get it. Can't even get it to stay maxxed, downgraded everytime. Pathetic tbh especially seeing as I love DC and although not my favourite, I still know it well.

Morisette, first run 87% acc, 106 streak... go figure :P

no, not possible that way.... but if those two notes should be played at the same time the D# on 6th fret have to move to the next string (D) to 1st fret, same note there: D# (orEb), then you will have a doublestop, a minor third. But I don't know if it should, I didn't play anything until now.

But how is it possible to write 2 different notes on the same string... really curious

Im sorry im a bit late, was involved in woman deals.

I tried a bass a songs Alanis and Ac-Dc:

http://i.imgur.com/DYFLvpl.jpg

My rate there 5, so as there need learned only one easy pattern for all a song. I sure there appear score=100%

And Alanis:

http://i.imgur.com/4hWjket.jpg

My rate 7. A bit more complicated, and not so easy to get right sounds, have enough shifting frethand, have a lot ghost notes, which would be good to play right - not only for score, but and for great sounds.

So Ac-Dc setted in to right class.

And yet one score:

http://i.imgur.com/aJBnBRE.jpg

My rate 8, bcs of enough fast arpeggio, and fast outro, there really hard to get score close to 100 not depend of sounds.

Sorry if my opinion different of your.

Anyway this week  for battle guitarists.  :)  No matter which class will bass Alanis or Oyster, both is advanced level.

No problem :) Seeing how nev and albatross agrees with me, I'll just change people who I listen to :P We pretty much agree on ratings, for me it was which one is harder to make sound right, but it will be a lot on skill and preference of the player.

So basses will stay how they were (unless some really good counter arguments will come).

PS. Morisette has pop

BOC: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444631073I know, this score doesn't count. This was my 1st and only try (so far)  at 75% speed as that's all I can manage atm. I love the riff but I'm so out of practice I can't play it well at all at 100% speed. Won't give opinion of ratings for any of these because my judgement is marred by said lack of practice the past few weeks.

AC/DC: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444630843Love this track. I'll probably just play this to death this week to get back on track with the practice... this is like 100 lines in detention, except, way more fun :)

The Editors: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444631002a nice choice for beginner but I'm really not digging it meself.

Whiney Morissette: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444630910N'yurm... I like this bassline, I don't like the song. I'd like to learn it but Alanis' voice is the human equivalent of an air raid siren. I don't know if I can cope with that shit :(

Ok, because of poor results and overall lack of skill @NoonyDeloony gets downgraded to Advanced. She would be forever remembered as shameful person... and then she'll make another charming video and we'll forget about that.

I think a lot of this argument comes down to how you define the difficulty of a song, and I could see the argument going a few different ways depending on which one you think is the best definition. A few that I see as possible definitions are

1. How hard it is to get the gist of the song. By this I mean you don't need to nail every note and certainly not every fill, but you have the groove locked in and can manage not to sound awful most of the time.

2. How hard it is to get a high accuracy score (say, 99%).

3. How hard it is to get 100% accuracy score. This can put a lot of emphasis on a very small part of the song, and also puts a good deal of emphasis on the length of the song.

4. How hard it is to get the song to sound right musically. This maybe allows some things that RS registers as misses, but is also more strict on a lot of stuff RS allows.

And then, of course, there's the fact that every player is different, and what's difficult for some my not be difficult for others.

Anyway, some score updates:

Edit: Also, @@then3verend, those notes being messed up in Cities on Flame is actually really obvious now that I played it again, even given my tin ears. Especially since in the later verse with the power chords it's actually correct.
