I keep posting Masterclass scores for lead/rhythm when I want to stick in Advanced. It alright if I do this and stick in advanced? Sometimes I feel the Advanced song is difficult while I find the MasterClass not too tough. I don't know if it's just because the style is different and I'm better at certain styles of songs, like ones with weird rhythms and time sigs opposed to fast solo stuff, which some people are the opposite, like I noticed Neverend, I think it was on Carl Barker saying that he was having trouble finding the groove, but I fit right into the groove in songs like that.

Anyways, the case this week is I find the Satriani difficult because my bends aren't very accurate, so I lost most of my accuracy on missing bends. While I love the Postcard song and find it pretty easy after I RR'd the intro a couple times.

I also don't see the problem with the arpeggios in Postcard either, I'm finding I'm hitting them perfectly fine and they are the most accurate way possible to include sweep chords into RS.

 

I guess if I were rating, for the lead arrangements I'd give Satriani about 7.5 and Postcard about a 7.

For Rhythm I'd give Postcard maybe a 6.

Feeling a bit better today, so I thought I should keep up with the beginner lead:

OK, I'm sure this is mostly due to my actual skill being on bass, not guitar, but...

 

For those that play both does the detection on guitar, particularly chords, seem much more hit or miss than single note and double stop stuff more common on bass?

 

When I'm playing bass, I feel like the detection is spot on pitch-wise (not necessarily timing wise) the great majority of the time.  If Rocksmith says I miss a note, it is really because I missed it, or at least muffed/fumbled it.  On guitar though, even with simple stuff like power chords, I can play a song to what feels/sounds to me like the exact same accuracy 3 times in a row, and get vastly different accuracy ratings.

 

I think that a big big portion of that must be that I'm just not very good at chords.  I probably hit notes that are supposed to be muted, and fat-fingers mute or partially mute stuff that is supposed to ring out, etc.  But in this song (and others like it), with long stretches of the same 3-note power chord just being strummed repeatedly, I get lots of what seem like random misses in the middle of a stretch.  Doesn't feel like my positioning has changed at all, it just decides that some hit and some don't.

 

Again, I think that if I developed my skill to where I'm playing stuff and fretting chords more cleanly (but if I have this kind of problem with power chords, you can imagine that anything with REAL chords is going to really kick my ass) it would be better, but it just feels like even with a real pro kind of player, the detection is maybe going to plateau a bit short of how well it handles bass detection.  Agree/disagree?

@@Blazikiller, I, generally, agree with you. Its a big help if you feel the groove of a song, and i must say, i totally suck at the Cryin song (in relation to it being a Advanced song, im around 84% the last time i played it) , my bends aren't really perfect too and i dont really like the way bends are displayed in RS generally.

I always have to sort of search for the right bend, i think it would be way better if it just would say bend 1/4,1/2... of a note or something like that, but thats a whole other story, haha.

 

As im now in ranting mood, yes @@MilkmanDan RS isn't perfect in recognition, at least as it seems on the guitar.

Theres so much random misses going on sometimes, where i have to take a step back and just keep my cool and remind my self that the thing that matters is that it sounds right to ME.

Good example right now, the postcard song and the arpeggio after the sweeping/pentatonic stuff. 

I get a miss on the note on the B-String (on the Am7 etc etc) about 90% of the time. I'll have to pick that note 2 times to get it

to register properly, and im 100% sure im picking it on the down-sweep the first time.

RS is really good in note recognition, maybe too good i think. if your note is just that tiny bit of a MHz out of the tolerance range

of the confirmation that the note is properly played or too much interference of the other strings ringing, you'll get a miss. (or the recognition just sucks...)

The thing that iritates me is the variation of these recognition problems from player to player. (guitar related?)

As why its better on bass i dont know. Thicker strings could be more stable or some voodoo stuff.

I'm atleast 95% sure, that yes, there definitely is a recognition problem going on in RS, and not every note you play (correctly)

is recognized correctly (which makes 100% runs so infuriating on guitar sometimes).

Therefore my goal, the majority of the time, isnt to get 100%. If i'll get to 96%-99%(depends on song/cdlc) thats 100% for me.

@@Latsch Definitely agree, I don't find the bends to be super intuitive in RS, though from what I've played of the Temple of Bends game does give you a better feel for how they work in the game and actually playing them more accurately overall, but it's an area I need to work on for guitar.

 

The recognition isn't perfect for guitar definitely. But it's weird you're struggling with the arpeggios. I've been nailing them since I did my sight-read of the song. I don't think I've missed a note from them except when I switched to it too late or goofed up the shift.

hahaha, i suck sooooo hard in temple of bends i think i never played it more than 45s until i died.

I hate all those mini games, they're totally weird for me personally

 

And yeah i dont know why i miss on the arpeggio, i know im playin the notes and ally but still get a miss, its freaky.

A quick second pick on the b string while im going up with my hand fixes that, but its stuff like that where you have to compensate

for the failure of the game which i think shouldnt be necessary for a beginner who doesnt know better.

Let Noony compete in Advanced, and hopefully the new approach on assigning difficulty ratings will let us keep that threshold better maintained so that everyone who moves up to MC 1) wants to, and 2) is ready for it.

 

I feel your pain Noony, it is a source of great personal shame that my score on the leaderboard is a whole 4 points for MC Bass but 20 for Beginner Lead...  Actually, I don't lose sleep over it or anything, but it is weird to be doing "better" in a guitar class than bass. <_<

Thanks @@MilkmanDan for the support :) I dunno if it's my unwellness that's amplifying the whole thing but I think ANYONE in this stalemate of an issue would indeed, end up "seeing their arse" with not scoring, EVER, too :(. I can play! But there is nothing to show for it which is really shit. Even having 4 points in MC would be great, that'd be an accomplishment. It's 1994 and GCSE's all over again! (Probably no one here who experienced that analogy but, it was shit.) :)

I got crossed on 1st section, it surprised me a bit, forgot since saturday.

 

And something for fun, Latsch mode, erm, Master Mode score for:

Beginner Lead - 99.56%, 504 streak, 1.608.039 score

One miss at change from 5th fret A chord to 2nd fret E chord. And then 3 at that ending section. I should work more on that ending section, I'm getting most random misses there.

Half of these misses are bends. If there's just one or two bends in a riff, I'm fine, but songs like this where they're constant overwhelms my poor Advanced brain. Definitely a good one for me to work on.

Love play on Far. I'm glad a lot of people are enjoying it - in spite of not being very mechanically difficult, there's a lot of melodic variation and it's a well crafted custom, which is something I try to aim for in my song selections. Really fun to play.
