  1. So, I keep seeing songs where the lyrics do not have sustain, the words are not properly synced or are not broken up in syllables. Let's fix that! What you need: Ultrastar Creator: http://sourceforge.net/projects/usc/ EoF (duh) The lyrics for the song Got it? Let's start. 1) Open USC. 2) Click on the folder icon next to "mp3" to load the mp3 3) Select the language of the song (required), and fill in the artist/title (optional) 4) Copy and paste the lyrics into the nice, big white box (something something that's what she said) 5) Press the highlighted button that says abc-def: http://thumbnails112.imagebam.com/34888/44d592348875521.jpg This splits the words into syllables 6) This function is far from perfect. Check every word/syllable and make sure it is correct. 7) Done? Good. 8) Set playback speed to something lower than 100%. I've seen your lyrics. You're not that great of a timer. Save yourself some syncing trouble and set it slower. Go on, we'll wait. 9) Press play 10a) Sync it by pressing the spacebar. 10b) Here's the PRO TIP: Add sustain to the syllable or word by HOLDING DOWN THE DAMN SPACEBAR. 11) Done? ARE YOU SURE YOU ADDED SUSTAIN? 12) Do it again. Add the sustain this time, bastard. 13) Save the .txt file 14) Open your project file in EoF 15) Go to Song -> Track -> Part Vocals 16) Click on File -> Lyric Import 17) Import said lyric 18) You see these words? Think of them as notes. But instead of notes, they're words. But think of them as notes. With words. 19) Get your clap on (press c, insert joke here) 20) Play the song, check sync and sustain. 21) Something wrong? Select the word/syllable, and move it around just as you would a note. See #18. Same thing with the sustain. ARE YOU SURE YOU ADDED SUSTAIN? 22) In order to get dem nice linebreaks in the game, we have to mark the lines. So select the words that make a good line with ctrl or shift, press ctrl + m and BOOM! We are off! 23) You can check your lines in the info window when you're playing the song. That is what it will look like in the game
  2. I bring this scenario to light because most times I use the MIDI tone in EoF for note-to-fret comparison, it uses a different tone each time I turn on the feature, which in turn sounds like an entirely different note than what would correspond with the fret position. My suggestion is to provide a menu in which the user can select from the various tones within the Edit menu so that the MIDI tone is not dynamically changed between bells, keyboards, or guitars. Alternatively, statically assign tones to be registered to the different EoF tracks (guitars to real guitar, keyboard -> keyboard, etc.)
  3. History You all knew that tabs used beats(BPM anchors -vertical white lines in eof) for sync chart with audio. You know where you can get this BPM values for the song(even EOF can do that, just click BPM - > Estimate BPM -> OK). But when you deal with floatingUn-staticVariable BPM you better bless god that in this song BPM changes won't be more than 4-5 times, cause you know Tool songs and there very creative drummer so we got this kind of issue. How to Solve it? Use this software with presets that I recommend and you'll get 98% accuracy on generating BPM map(aka Beat Map) NOTE: You will need EOF minimum r1271 (now its RC9 r1302 and its ok, DL new version guys) Plus better add Leading silence(about 2000ms = 2 seconds) before song to get smooth start. Download and install Sonic Visualizer for you platform(I know that better get Audacity, but it can't export .svl file) Get plugin named QM-vamp-plugin(Queen Mary university stuff) direct link to v1.7 and link to QM plugin page *For windows* To install plugins open %Program Files%Vamp Plugins Now unpack plugin data there, a-a-a-and done, its installed. Open Program (Sonic Visualizer). Load you audio. Go to Transform menu, select "Analysis by category>Time>Tempo>Tempo and beat tracker: Beats". *You can adjust the plugin parameters in the window that pops up if you want to experiment, otherwise just click OK and wait a minute.* If you played song and you don't satisfied by results - use another plugin preset. Go to Transform menu, select "Analysis by category>Time>Tempo>Tempo and beat tracker: Beats". Set this values: Beat tracking method: new Onset detection function Type: Broadband Energy Rise or Spectral Difference Adaptive whitening: unchecked(this will mess up your BPM-map) *You can set one channel in advanced settings to make detection more accurate)* You can export the beat positions to a file that EOF can import. To do so, make sure that layer is still in the foreground (it is the selected layer tab on the side of the program) and use "File>Export annotation layer" Choose a place to save the file. *your project folder would be a good place*. In EOF, while your project is open, use "File>Sonic Visualiser Import" and select the file you just exported from that program. *The beat map will be updated to reflect the information in the file, and you can undo the changes if they didn't turn out the way you like*. That is it, I think its very progressive way to get BPM map and its not taking so long, but if you know actual BPM and its static you can sync tab with couple anchors :) Thanks to Me(Alex360), Raynebc, QM university team, Sonic Visualizer team, all other good peoples.
  4. Hey everyone! I've been wanting to create a tutorial like this for some time, and I finally got around to it :) Hopefully some of you will find it helpful, and feel free to leave any questions or comments you may have: For further insights into using the spectrogram, you can refer to @@albatross213 's post here (sorry for the numeric dyslexia when I mentioned your name in the video). Also, would anyone like to see any other EoF- based tutorials? If so, which topics would be the most helpful to you? Let me know here
  5. I am working on a Troubled Times CDLC. After starting from scratch and finishing it, I created a preview audio file then converted it and the song file in Wwise. When I opened it in Rocksmith, the preview was nothing but loud, random noise. Trying to play the song didn't work either; the fretboard loaded but the song never started. It just idled there for about 5 seconds then acted like the song was over. I have tried re-compiling, re-creating each arrangement, re-converting in Wwise, re-arranging the starting phrases. Quite simply, I am at a loss. If anyone can assist me, that would be great. I can send any needed files to whomever would be interested in helping me! :)
  6. So I have tried to do a bunch of CDLC, yet they are all out of sync when I import them into EoF. In Guitar Pro they are all correct synced and have correct BPM, yet the BPM from the tab doesn't get imported into EoF. Is dragging the notes so they line up with the song really the only option? I'm trying to do black metal songs where there is a lot of tremolo picking so lining everything up is very hard. Also sometimes when I "Undo" if I made a mistake, the program crashes and I have to start everything over.
  7. I'm having a lot of trouble with a song that's around 10 minutes long. I can't get it to sync at all in EOF and any time I adjust it I just run in to more problems. Was hoping to find some help on this and see what other people did in this situations. Thanks
  8. Hi guys, i'm having trouble importing the xml files from my Spit Out The Bone custom from Metallica, i have this message, can anyone help me? http://i.imgur.com/oYeHeVQ.jpg
  9. Hi, I create a song in GP5 using a 70 BPM tempo. When I ask EOF to estimate the bet, it says 140. So I have some options: a) Fix GP5 source to be at 140 BPM but that requires restructuring the entire song. Is there an easy way to do that? b) Change the tempo in EOF to be 70 BPM instead of 140. That will allow me to align with my song, but what happens when it's time to play it? Other ideas? Thanks, L
  10. I run EoF (yes I have latest and Hotfix) and it manages to open. I get the little editor box with a gray canvas and thats it. If I CTRL ALT DEL and go to task manager sometimes the gray canvas loads, and I can interact with mouse hover but as soon as I click it freezes again. Even the taskbar upon clicking crashes immediately.
  11. This will be spread across multiple posts for reasons of organization. For a while a lot of the posts will just be placeholders, but I'll eventually fill things out. This will be pretty comprehensive, and I hope touch on some things that aren't addressed in other tutorials, and also bring together a lot of accumulated knowledge that's now scattered across this site. It will also be in mostly text and pictures, simply because it's easier to update text and pictures than video, and probably less time-consuming overall for both me and you. I'll probably be skipping some of the more basic things that are contained in other tutorials. For example, the basics of what programs you'll need and how to arrange them are covered in @@Darjusz's tutorial. Some of the later material is outdated because of updates to the software from some of our hardworking developers (for example, you don't need to work directly with Wwise anymore, but can instead put guitar.ogg into the toolkit and it will produce the .wem from that), but it provides an excellent introduction to most of the tools you'll be using. Also, don't expect every CDLC of mine to perfectly implement everything that I mention here. Some things I've learned since making certain CDLC and haven't updated yet, others I might have decided weren't worth the time for the song, and so on and so forth. We do this as a hobby, so we can't really expect everything to make everything perfect. But if we find a flaw, we should notify the creator so it can be fixed - fixing this will not only improve the quality of that CDLC, but also likely will help improve subsequent output from that charter. I guess I'll start with my philosophy on making CDLC. First thing is to do what I can to make sure things are accurate. My sense of rhythm is pretty good, so it's pretty easy for me to tell if something is off rhythm or not once synced. My sense of pitch is pretty bad, but even so I can usually tell if something (like in a guitar solo) goes significantly higher or lower than the tab and the melody is completely off. If I see things like this that are off, I then have to decide whether to scrap the project, fix it myself, or release as is and try to get someone from the community to help with fixing it. Next is to make learning the song more approachable - you shouldn't (intentionally or unintentionally) make it harder to learn a song. There's a lot to do here, some of which may get noticed (RR sections and DD), but much of which probably won't (Fret Hand Positions/FHP, chord fingerings) but can still be very important, especially for songs that beginners will play or will prove popular. The rest of this guide will be spread throughout several replies to this post. The topics will include (they will be presented in this order, but probably won't be written in this order): The basics of spectrogram view (not started)Syncing a song in EoF (not started)Preparing tabs for import (in progress)Sectioning, and adding DD (Mostly done)Fixing up slides (Mostly done, but needs examples and images)Miscellaneous technique stuff (in progress)Fixing up FHP (Mostly done, but needs examples and images)Lyrics (mostly done)Miscellaneous Toolkit stuff (In progress)I'm almost certainly not the foremost expert in all of these subjects on here, so if anyone wants to assist in the writing on some of these subjects, or just present an alternative perspective on one, all help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any other topics you think should be included, let me know! It's a little hard to judge the quality of a DLC without playing it, but here's a rough guide of what I'd consider important for a good DLC that I'll come back to often and enjoy playing. The exact order can depend on the content of the DLC (techniques, chords, arpeggios, etc.), so don't take the order too seriously. The essentials: Accurate tab, with good fretboard logicBeat synced, not note syncedHigh quality audioUseful RR sections. If there's something that's both new and hard (it could be a chord progression, a new idea in a solo, a fill, etc.), it should be towards the beginning of a section, and I shouldn't have to wait too long to practice it each time around.Well done slides. Too many bad slides (which often means slides left alone after import, as a lot of tabs manage slides incorrectly) can ruin the experience of an otherwise good custom. Pay attention to slide timing, whether it should be legato or not, whether it's a slide in or a slide out, and whether the slide should be pitched or unpitched.Tones. At the very least, have a tone. Even if you can't come up with tones that fit every part of the song exactly, it's better to have something (that people can switch away from if they choose) than to break the tone engine of everyone who ever plays your DLC.Of great utility (sometimes): FHP. This is especially important for tapped sections, or places where the index finger is rooted and one reaches over more than 4 frets (quite common in solos given the size of frets higher up the fretboard, but also possible lower down). If these aren't done manually it can create a lot of visual clutter and be quite confusing, which does not help anyone trying to learn these (generally tough) passages.Chord fingerings. It can sometimes be a bit of a chore to enter them all, but it's really frustrating trying to learn a new chord while actually playing the song (especially if its chord pane is partially obscured by other chord panes), and if you don't put in the chord fingering (and maybe a chord name), it won't appear in the chord book.Suitable scroll speed. The RSToolkit default of 2.0 is often way too slow. Most official DLC have a scroll speed of 1.3, and some are faster. More technical songs often benefit from higher scroll speeds, and rhythm and lead often benefit from faster scroll speeds than bass (so that chord panes get space out appropriately). It's down here because if people dislike your scroll speed, it's one of the easier changes to make.DD. It's also reasonably simple for the user to add if the charter doesn't, but more time consuming. I don't consider it essential since I'd usually rather play the full riff at a slow speed than a simplified version at full speed so I don't use it very much unless I absolutely can't sightread something. But I know many others will disagree with me and consider it essential.Good use of tech notes and techniques. Accurate bends can add a lot of nuance to a solo. Good use of handshapes and arpeggios can make it much easier to understand complicated passages. Using the wrong techniques in some places can be confusing (for example, harmonics shouldn't have slides, bends, or vibratos, but pinch harmonics can have these techniques. Also palm muting vs. fret hand muting, as sometimes tabbers get these wrong, or just leave out palm mutes).Nice to have: Alternative/bonus arrangements. If there are multiple guitarists that trade off solos, it might be nice to have arrangements for each individual guitarist in addition to a lead path that has all solos. If a custom uses a 5-string bass, it is nice to have an arrangement for 4-string bass so that most people can play it.Lyrics. And please, if you're going to go to the effort of making lyrics, make sure they're synced appropriately and have line breaks at natural places (I've seen a lot of CDLC with the entire song as one line, which means the game makes line breaks once enough text has accumulated, which only rarely coincides with actual lines). Most of the other posts will expand on the topics introduced in this post. Thanks for reading!
  12. Hi all, my name is Peter and this is my first post to the forum. First I'd like to say that I really appreciate the work you put into this! Big thanks! I'm really new to things like EoF or the BPR-Tool that I found by reading through the topics. So I tried to import a song and just to get familiar with the programs, I thought it's a good start to just split a CDLC that is one big piece into a bunch of smaller pieces for the Riff-Repititor after reading the tuorials. Easier said than done... I'm not able to get a working result :( I tried with the BPR-Tool and managed to split the song where I want to but after repacking, the song was not recognized in RS anymore. May I ask if someone can take a short approach to explain what I should do? (I tried with this song: (Huey Lewis - Stuck with you) https://www.dropbox.com/s/rhxohuk7680xtx4/Huey-Lewis--The-News_Stuck-With-You_v1_p.psarc?dl=0 Thanks, Peter
  13. Hopefully this is the right place to post this. Recently I've been working on charting a song that's in drop D. There's three different guitarists, the latter of the which shows up for a solo in the end. I've been working on putting the "main" parts of each of the guitars all into one tab so that people playing will get the full experience of all of the solos. However, in the last solo, he's tuned in Eb Standard. Is there some way I can change the tab around, or change some sort of settings in EoF to help adapt for this? I admittedly don't know that much about guitars, or tuning for that matter, so I apologize in advance if it's a dumb question. I also have GP6 if there's anything I can do in there to fix this problem.
  14. The slide in EoF http://i.imgur.com/MA0jkwE.png The slide in game http://i.imgur.com/jj910Nv.png The slide is working perfectly in game however it won't be displayed. The same thing occurs with chord bends. The bend is there but it isn't displayed (nor the sustain). Is there a solution for this?
  15. I'm a little upset, I was just about to finish my song up and after I made a few tweaks and tested it in game, it started to show all the chords separately as seen in the images. However in EOF, I changed nothing about the notes. Does anyone know why this happened or how to fix this and display them as they usually are, I've never had this problem before. Also I am using EOF version 1.8RC10 (r1337) with no hotfix. (The hotfix brakes my EOF and it wont launch) Any help would be great. http://i.imgur.com/x3mbt9T.jpg http://i.imgur.com/eFG48Dj.png http://i.imgur.com/tec7gQf.png
  16. I'm trying to figure out how to display phrases like this the most cleanly (assume a "let ring" there): Ideally, I'd like the arpeggio/handshape functionality to display the 1 & 3 fingers at the first & second frets throughout the whole 4-chord sequence, while keeping the standard chord boxes, but this doesn't appear to work. With no handshape/arpeggio marks, the result is as expected, with "different" chords showing up for the 10 & 02 blocks, and the fingerings appearing & disappearing per chord: If I add ghost notes to fill them out, the fingerings still don't display. Which leaves the options of using handshape or arpeggio, but these end up looking rather messy: handshape: arpeggio: This looks about the same whether I mark the entire block as a single handshape, or each chord separately (w/ appropriate ghost notes & fingerings). Or is it just not possible to do what I'm trying to do? Any instances of multiple notes without a bounding box around them tends to look really confusing & ugly, and, most importantly, are hard to tell that they actually fall on the same beat (especially when they fly by at full speed), but the overall fingering won't display otherwise... :\
  17. I'm new to CDLC. I would prefer to start spending my gaming time on CDLC creation. Let me start but saying EoF is awesome. To say the least as a total novice I enjoy the challenge of experimenting with EoF and figuring out how to use it. I have a few questions. What language and application is EoF coded in? I would like to help the developer create a more user friendly UI. I have DL'd the source code but I have not used this language before. Can EoF be updated to use GP6 tabs?Playing pointless shooter games and the like is getting very old. I'd rather send all that time doing something creative that other can enjoy as well. All software and music I have are legally licensed for what it's worth. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sly
  18. Hey there, pretty new to editing/creating cdlc files so I'm pretty lost. Some songs in my library that I've downloaded don't have any riff repeater sections, making certain parts difficult to learn. I've been playing around with eof and the rocksmith toolkit to try and edit files to include sections but to little avail. Has anyone tried doing this? Thanks for any help Edit: Found a tool that does exactly what I need to do. It can also sync up notes if need be! It's called the BPR tool and it super easy to use. Here is a link: http://customsforge.com/topic/15687-beats-phrases-resynchronizer/page-1 Thanks to Chlipouni for making it!
  19. Hey Guys, I have a song with an intro which leads into the main song but these are two separate Guitar Pro files, is there any way to import these into Editor On Fire without overwriting each other? The obvious answer seems to just merge them into one Guitar Pro file and then import. Thanks.
  20. Is it possible to author a slide after a sustain in EOF using GP tie notes? I have this Guitar Pro tab: http://i.imgur.com/HWW9w4i.png As shown in the notation, I want to sustain the double stop 5xx6 for a sixteenth, then slide to 12xx13 during the course of an eighth, play that double stop, then sustain again. It's a 'Shift Slide', not a 'Legato Slide'. However, when I import the tab into EOF, I get this: http://i.imgur.com/jIM0qlm.png As you can see, EOF seems to have read the tie notes as actual played notes, which I don't want. Could anyone help out? This issue has been bothering me for quite some time. Thanks.
  21. Greetin's, everyone. I've recently started working on my first chart in EOF (latest version/patch). Most of it seems straight forward, but as I've been working on the song, I've encountered several things I've had questions on. If anyone could provide answers, I'd appreciate them a bunch! For hammer-ons, should I use the >Note>HOPO>Toggle hammer on, or should I instead use Note>Pro Guitar>Toggle tapping? When a chord is required to slide (in this case a power chord), I've noticed that after going to Pro Guitar > Slide > Toggle Slide Down, and then Guitar > Slide > Set End Fret, you're only given one fret to slide to for the whole chord. What should be done here? Is there one string I should use over the other, and it will automatically slide that distance for the other string? Or perhaps there is another option elsewhere I should use? And finally, for palm muting, is it alright to use the Note > Pro Guitar > Palm Mute toggle for Rocksmith, or is there an alternative I should be using? Thanks in advance!

  23. Hello I'm trying to do a custom for "Procrastination Bass'in" from Rob Scallon I synced the track on GoPlayAlong, when i try to import the XML i get this error https://www.dropbox.com/s/zmtb0hvgtprtsik/Untitled.png?dl=0 Can you guys help me please?
  24. My query is rather simple, though I'm not too knowledged in working with EoF - I unpacked a CDLC pack in hopes to add sections, instead of only having the entire song as one big mass (for Dynamic Difficulty purposes). Problem is, the notes start 3 seconds in due to the leading silence. I want to shift all of the notes down to the beginning of the chart reel without losing the beat of the song, which has subtle change. Essentially, I want to eliminate the leading silence. Is there a way to accomplish this that I'm not noticing? Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you!
  25. I have a mem file that seems to play a part in how I am allowed to edit my CDLCs and it's been slowing me down A LOT. Anyone know a fix or way to keep the file from coming back?
