  1. Just thought I'd share my new Rocksmith twitch stream setup, to maybe save some others a bit of headache---

    (Stream is here if interested: twitch.tv/1o57_CuriousCodes )

    Due to how I wanted my setup up to look, I'm using a separate computer for streaming than for running the game.  I'll talk about video first, then about audio.

    I've got an i7 NUC (small Intel computer) running Win10 + Steam that I play the actual game on.  The video is fed into a el Gato stream capture that is connected to a second NUC.  (Both computers together are smaller than most desktops.)  The video from the stream/capture computer is fed through a 1x4 HDMI duplicator, and I show the video on a monitor in front of me, a 75" tv behind me, and a monitor at my synth/music desk.

    For audio:  I'm running a Yamaha mixer with USB, and that's connected to the streaming computer.  Audio out from the game/Rocksmith computer is fed into the mixer.  My bass guitar is connected as follows:  Bass guitar connects to a Lehle Sunday driver.  The Sunday Driver is connected to a Lehle P-Split.  One output of the P-Split is connected to the Rocksmith tone cable, which in turn is connected to the Rocksmith computer.  The other output of the PSplit is fed into the mixer.  In the Rocksmith game I completely turn down the Bass volume.  This way the game still registers as though I'm playing/scoring, but the actual sound through my monitors (and streamed, etc) is DIRECT from my bass (the signal) - this also allows me to do things like run GuitarRig or throw in actual physical pedals.

    I also have a mic connected to the mixer via XLR cable.

    Thoughts:

    Rocksmith just hates playing nicely with other things, hence I run it on a computer by itself (it doesn't like it when you alt-tab out of it, it sometimes doesn't play nicely when run in windowed mode, etc)-  Taking the audio directly from my computer running Rocksmith into the stream computer via the mixer works WAY BETTER than using the audio capture from the elGato.

    Anyways, just thought I'd share....

  2. This is exactly the setup and discussion I was asking about, but nobody responded...

    If you want to split your input and use an amp, one solution is to use a Lehle P-Split (I also use a Sunday Driver in the chain) and it works great.  I turn down the sound for the guitar in the game and only use my amp.  If I want effects, I just take that second signal and run it through guitar rig or physical pedals....

  3. Let me know if you'd like a leg up on this or endorsement/words of encouragement...

    Also have you considered a Defcon101 talk on this, or a presentation in one of the villages?  Please let me know if you are interested.

  4. Ive tried to learn guitar for 20 years, without much luck. I could fret chords and play a few progressions but nothing to really force myself to push.

    Last October I bought Rocksmith and discovered Customsforge, in the last year my playing has progressed well beyond the last 20 years.

    Today Ive logged over 350 hours in Rocksmith. I don't just play songs, I also play the technique challenges and the guitarcade games.

    Since the update RS seems to have a slight lag issue displaywise as songs I had 90% or higher playing I seem to be missing notes. Although what I hear is me hitting notes in time with the tune.

    Stick with it and keep it fun, you will get more from it.

    If I look back over my life and the countless hours I spent playing games, rs is the only one that devoting time to it produces something tangible.

    This lag is exactly what I was talking about when I made my post about splitting my signal- I have part of the signal going directly to an AMP, so there is no lag, and the other half to the game.  Then I turn down the volume for the main instrument on the game side.  Yes, unless I use a pedal or one of my other computers to process the sound I lose the tone processing...

    Anyways, that's how I combat the lag issues...

  5. So I've had RockSmith going on the trifecta of systems since the original RockSmith, that is on Xbox, PC, and on a Mac.

    When RockSmith2014 hit the streets, it *felt* at the time (especially on the Xbox) that there was more latency in the game (especially processing time to produce sound, so string time to sound felt super laggy)- to remedy this I created this setup:

    Guitar/Bass ---> Lehle Sunday Driver ---> Lehle P-Split ---> RockSmith Cable to PC/Xbox/Mac

                                                                                           |---> Cable to AMP

    Then when I play the game I turn down the instrument sound completely, and only have the song play via the computer or game console.  The guitar or bass sound ONLY comes live from the AMP.  (Sometimes I run this into another computer or pedals to get a tone effect since I'm not getting the tone from the game at that point.)

    Does anyone else do anything similar to this?  What hardware do you use?  I've found I'm pretty happy with Lehle, and I can get quite a few tones/effects from Native Instruments Guitar Rig when I really want the processing or effects.

    Anyways, just thought I'd ask, I was just curious...

  6. For those that want to donate $6.66 (when using PayPal as the processor):

    So after my initial donation this month, which I tried to have come out as $105.70 (see my profile if you want to know why)- I figured I'd back calculate and figure out how to advise people to donate $6.66 as a fun way to encourage people to make a small donation if they can-

    So at first I calculated the "fee" off of my original donation, where the amount I donated was $105.70, but that showed as only $102.33, which gave a "fee" rate.  However using that fee rate, I calculated that it would take a donation of $6.90 to show a donation of $6.66 after the fee- but it didn't, it showed a donation of $6.40.  My guess is that the fee paypal charged was different based on the amount.

    Using this new 'rate' I calculated what to donate to get $6.66 after fee.  After making that donation, I discovered there must be a floating point issue (due to the precision I used I guess), and I was off by one penny.

    *** SO, if you want to donate and have it show up as a donation of $6.66, you have to donate $7.17, and after the fees are taken, on the CustomsForge page it will show a donation of $6.66.  Enjoy. ***

  7. As with most instruments, I've had good and bad even from the same manufacturer.  If at all possible see how a particular instrument (not just model) plays.  You can sometimes get a good instrument for much less $$$ if you check places like Pawnshops, or eBay and Craigslist.

    I personally love G&L, but some people don't like how heavy they are.

    Good luck, let us know what you get!

  8. Have you considered other payment methods for donations, so you can avoid the paypal fees?  Like Venmo or Square Cash?

    So what's the story with the display of the donation amount being slightly smaller than the actual donation amount?

    I finally fixed it where it shows the paypal fees. Paypal takes fees out with every donation. We was under the limit of what we needed each month which caused unnecessary extra goals.
