  1. Zerkz, I have no problem with you showcasing any of my work at MagFEST if you think people will find it useful. Heck, I may even be able to produce a video if you were showing it at a booth. As I stated on my videos, my real name is Robb Nichols and I have been working on this project for my wife and myself. I share the knowledge freely as I have no rights to produce the content for profit, as Ubisoft owns the content. The educational copyright clause applies only when you're not profiting from it, and even then it is a gray area. I'd love for Ubisoft to take notice and offer me a job though. :-D
  2. Chrome with Adblock also stops all of the ads on mediafire. I have been running adblock for so long that I really wasn't aware that it was a problem. I ran out of space on dropbox pretty quickly so I started using mediafire about a year ago due to the increased storage I have there. Another feature I like about mediafire is that I can see how many times a file has been downloaded.
  3. I now wonder how some of those acoustic songs would sound with a real acoustic. In your video, the clean guitar sounded pretty awesome. I replied to your query about violin tuning. I hope that my hypothesis is correct.
  4. A simple feature I'd like to see implemented is showing the fingering on single note sections, rather than only within arpeggios or chords. A more complex feature that I'd LOVE to see is a musical score up near the lyrics section. I tried using a notation font as lyrics in a custom and it simply didn't work.
  5. Thanks Plum. I reported the thread as you suggested. I've already worked it out for cello. I just lack any music that is written for the instrument. Tuning: E-4=C A-2=G D-0=D G+2=A Set the core frequency to 880 in the RSCT track and it should be ready to go, assuming the tuning was set correctly in the EOF Chart. For Viola, use the exact same tuning modifications, and set the core frequency to 1760.
  6. Video test failed. I guess those only work in the video forum. Video links have been added to the main thread with start times.
  7. After receiving numerous requests from people to post the customs that I have been using for experimentation with Violin on Rocksmith, I have uploaded them. If others have created customs for violin, feel free to post links on this thread. Video links might be useful too, if available. WARNING: The BASS chart on these songs is for a REAL VIOLIN! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TUNE A BASS TO MATCH THE REQUIRED TUNING Tuning instructions: Do NOT use emulated bass. The custom is already coded to expect an instrument tuned to G,D,A,E in the 4th-6th octave, which equates to guitar notes on the 10th fret of A, 12th fret of D, 14th fret of G, and 17th fret of B (12th of E). Customs currently available (PC only): Practice track: Beethoven's Ode to Joy http://www.mediafire.com/download/ghch7t79l3gp93d/Beethoven_Ode-to-Joy_Violin_Only_v1_p.psarc Video Demo (queue to 13:25): Lindsey Stirling: My Immortal (Evanescence Cover) http://www.mediafire.com/download/cfp37a56z4ooa6d/Lindsey-Stirling_My-Immortal-Violin-Only_v2_p.psarc Video Demo (queue to 5:36): Gil Shaham: Paganini's Sonata Concertato in A Major (1st movement) http://www.mediafire.com/download/c2cr9x9pu8491rm/Paganini_Sonata-Concertato-in-A-major-MS-2_I_-Allegro-Spiritoso_v1_p.psarc Video Demo:
  8. For those that are interested, and to answer the most commonly asked questions I receive via private message, I uploaded a new video this evening:
  9. Oh and just a footnote... DO NOT select emulated bass when you are going through the tuning step. Select standard bass.
  10. This is correct. Maybe I can help with understanding this ukulele transposition process, since it isn't much different from violin with respect to EOF. Because the bass is the only 4 stringed instrument available in rocksmith, you will need to make rocksmith think you are playing in the correct octave for a bass with custom tuning. As Firekorn stated previously, standard tuning for the bass is E1, A1, D2, G2. Imagine that you are tuning a bass to match Ukulele tuning: G1, C1, E1, A1. Because the 4th string (G) is in the same octave and is above as the standard tuning of E, you cannot reach G2 as the first offset, being limited to +/- 11. Therefore you must make all strings in the 1st octave. What may confuse someone that isn't familiar with octave rules in music, is that this isn't the alphabet where A is the first in the set. An octave starts at C, and as you go up the chromatic scale, B is the last note in this octave. So lets break it down: Target note --- Starting note A1 = G2 -10 half steps (F#,F,E,D#,D,C#,C,B,A#,A,) counting backward from G to reach A E1 = D2 -10 half steps (C#,C,B,A#,A,G#,G,F#,F,E,) counting backward from D to reach E C1 = A1 -9 half steps (G#,G,F#,F,E,D#,D,C#,C) counting backward from A to reach C G1 = E1+3 half steps (F, F#, G) In EOF, select the bass track that contains the chart and go to Track / ProGuitar -> Set tuning. It should look like this: http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/042d/qflv36y44xr836efg.jpg Assuming you have imported a tab file into EOF, odds are that the tab is already correct for the actual notes being played. If EOF prompts you to transpose the notes, be sure to say "NO" if you know that your tab's fingering is correct for ukulele. Now into RSCT you add the arrangement for your bass (ukulele) instrument. If the tuning was already set up in EOF, the arrangement settings should look something like this by default: The drop-down list right below the instrument name is for tuning. If you click the [...] button just to the right of the drop-down, you can see the tuning Rocksmith will expect to see. I personally wouldn't recommend changing it here. The toolkit always shows the tuning for all 6 strings even on bass. This is normal. http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/4eb2/l8fw9zlg88b5k6mfg.jpg The tuning pitch field is where you define the core frequency for the instrument. This is by default A4 (440) and RS will base your lowest note off of that core frequency. Because the bass is known to be in the A1 register, you are 3 octaves down. This is where it gets tricky. You have to make rocksmith think that you are playing 3 octaves below the core frequency, so you must increase the core frequency. The math of this is simple. You DOUBLE the current frequency each time that you go up by 1 octave. 440x2 = 880 880x2 = 1760 1760x2 = 3520 The calculation suggests that 3520 is the core frequency you must select. However, my experience with making customs for violin suggest to me that you should select 1760, given that the lowest note on a violin is also G4. This note corresponds to the 10th fret on the A string of a standard tuned guitar. I'd give 1760 a try and see if you can get past the tuning step on your ukulele. If not, try the 3520. It should be noted that Rocksmith is going to think you're playing the song correctly even if you're a fret above or below on the ukulele if you have to use 3520. This is because the interval analysis is based around a '100 cents' scale, and 440 is the foundation for the computer's calculation by default. If you set the core frequency to 3520, this also will affect the value of 1 cent. It will still correctly identify the 'correct' note but if you miss a note, the game may say you've played it correctly.
  11. That's a complicated question. The term chord isn't generally used for violin. They call it a double-stop for two strings or triple-stop if 3 strings are played at the same time. Because the strings are not on a flat plane, the triple and quadruple stop tones require a tremendous amount of skill with the bow, and must be played far from the bridge. For example, the first 3 note phrases in the Paganini video above are double stops. The first is A5+C#6, then E5+B5, then A5+C#5. In all three of these 'chords' the bow is pulled across 2 strings at once. There is a very good article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violin if you're interested in learning more about the instrument.
  12. If I ever find time to complete the guitar part, I'll post the custom.
  13. I just noticed this comment. I wish people would post on the custom's page if there are issues with any of the songs I post. I've played it several times with my Luna Andromeda bass and it sounds fine. That could just be a function of my instrument though. By all means if there are issues, let me know and I'll try to address them. Great scores, btw... better than I can do. For those of you that played Sea of Lies on lead or rhythm, please let me know if you found any issues.
  14. Video #1, which was made originally intended for my violin teacher, who has never seen Rocksmith.
  15. It is coming along nicely.
  16. That's an interesting link. The fact that it exists in a poorly implemented form (based on the reviews) leads me to think that somewhere on the horizon there may be a product that has the quality of RS2014 with built in support for other instruments. Until then, I think I'll stick with making my own. :)
  17. When I hooked up a microphone to Rocksmith, I had to set the cable gain up to +8 before it would pick up well enough in the game to get past calibration. I opened up session mode and used my guitar to get past the tuning step, then swapped the guitar for the microphone, then started playing the violin. The game registered the notes just fine. I think this is going to work, so I started making a custom. I'll post a play-through video when it is finished, with my horrible playing muted of course. This is the song I've started charting:
  18. Thanks for the links. I am now looking for a good beginner chart to try out. I'm thinking I might do the violin part of Dust in the Wind or something. I'm not sure yet.
  19. I recently started taking violin lessons and I had wondered if something like this was possible. I think I may start charting something fairly easy and then if it works well, I may eventually work my way up to Paganini's Caprice #7. ;)
  20. My violin teacher and I were talking about Rocksmith 2014 and how it works. She grumbled that they'll probably never make a game like this for violin because it is much less main-stream in the modern era. This got me to thinking: Could I possibly create a functional RS2014 custom for violin rather than guitar? Obstacles: 1) It produces a saw-toothed waveform when bowed, rather than a sine wave. 2) It has 4 strings rather than 6. 3) Its highest note is more than an octave higher than guitar can reach. For 1, I think this might be a non-issue since it appears that Rocksmith's audio detection is based on frequency between peaks. For 2: I think I could probably use the Bass and set the root frequency to 880 (1660?) with custom tuning to that of a violin: G,D,A,E (low to high) For 3: This would (in theory) be achieved by the same method as 2, I think. Has anyone tried making a custom for a similarly tuned instrument, such as a mandolin? If so, then the violin custom would probably work.
  21. I use mediafire for my shares. Although they do present the occasional advertisement to install some PC Optimizer crap, I have never experienced an automatic download of anything from them. I have been prompted to download things in ads, but I just download the file that I went there for, and close the tab (or browser) window. They are a business and they make money by selling ads so they can provide the free service. I have no problem with that as long as I have the option of saying 'no' to their request to install things. Adblocker works by analyzing a page's code structure and detecting when it has made a call to an external ad-server. If the code on the page is written so that the content is not called from an external source, then adblocker typically won't detect it. It may be more complex than that, but that's the basic premise of the extension's design.
  22. I did that on my very first custom (Day at the Beach) by Satriani. I also didn't know where to find tabs yet, so I created the whole thing by right clicking the piano roll where I saw the transients. The beat map was completely unused after I set the basic tempo. I admit, I really had no idea what I was doing at the time.
  23. I could use some help with the Distortion guitar tone, and the tapping portion of the guitar lead in Sea of Lies, which on the original track sounds more like a synth keyboard than guitar. It is functional presently, but when you drop down to the Dm chord it has no balls. http://customsforge.com/topic/6629-sea-of-lies/
  24. I experienced that issue when I first started. For me, it was the fact that I forgot to add leading silence at the beginning of the track. If the audio starts as soon as the game initializes the custom, it can cause the chart to not move. Also, if you forget to set the seek setting in WWise, it can cause this.
  25. I had withdrawn from this championship maybe 4 months ago, because I only have a limited amount of time to play each week. I was just passing through and noticed that I'm still on the spreadsheet every week. Does that mean that if I choose to do so, I can participate on any given week that I have time to play?
