  1. RIP Shane McGowan, lead singer of The Pogues. I'll play a few tributes after work. Edit: spelled MacGowan
  2. I've been playing Goo Goo Muck on the hollow archtops that I just built. As a FreeBird, my scores don't matter, but for the Cramps, hollow archtops do. The Guitar - laminated dyed maple archtop. Neck mount pickup was added after this picture was taken The Bass - 25.5" scale hollow birdseye maple laminate archtop Edit - Take THAT FreeBird Police!
  3. I forgot how much I liked Zebra from week 363. It will take some work to get my performance up to snuff, though. The 98.5 is my best from week 363. This time, I'm starting in the mid 90s
  4. I'm surprised by how little of The Band's material has been transcribed to CDLC. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, on bass 99%
  5. And for the record, Knocking on Heaven's Door doesn't count because that was before Bob Dylan hired the Hawks away from Ronnie Hawkins.
  6. Of course, I will have to play Rick Danko's parts.
  7. RIP Robbie Robertson Another giant has gone "somewhere down the lazy river". Freebird hi-jack to follow when I get to my man-cave.
  8. Those are some great scores on Rudy Can't Fail. I had that song in my regular rotation for years (years ago) and never came close to those sight reads. I could never get all of the slides right. Is this a different version than what we played in week 84? I've downloaded this one to compare. Edit - Yup, same version and I still can't get the slides from G# to C at any speed.
  9. I don't normally paly anything that isn't in bass E standard, but my last build was made for D standard with a capo allowance for Eb or E. The Gorillaz show that I went to before Covid was great, so I couldn't resist...
  10. Now I can get to work on a tribute to Tina.
  11. I played this one on Saturday but never got around to posting it: I haven't played this on in a year or two, so I'm working to get back up to speed.
  12. Freebird Bassist Week HI-Jack!!! Every bassist with a shred of Rock and Roll "I do whatever I want" attitude, drop what you are doing! Go to this link. @ JamesPrestonUK has published thousands of bass CDLC. Scroll down to #s 2247 through 2252 For tributes to Tina. Play and post tributes in this thread using those CDLC. Thanks @ JamesPrestonUK . & Take THAT Freebird police.
  13. No help! Does nobody read the news?!? FFS! Her husband recorded what has been cited at the FIRST R&R single with Rocket 88. (BTW, How is this not a CDLC?) Her solo catalogue overshadows anything else that he did, or that they did together. To paraphrase a line from the show Roadies, "If you are going to stand on the shoulders of giants, you should at least know who they are". RIP Tina Turner
  14. I'm away from my computer. Can someone please post the latest loss of one of our giants? This one is huge.
  15. My opinions are for bass only The Beat, Rough Rider Madness, Bed and Breakfast Man Dire Straits, Twisting by the Pool Interrupters, She's Kerosene Mink Deville, Spanish Stroll - for the beginners The Stranglers, Nice 'n Sleazy Talking Heads, Wild Wild Life The Stray Cats, Runaway Boys Bob Marley, Stir it Up - because it was the beginner bass track the first week that I joined, Week 92 IIRC
  16. Stick to standard tunings, please. My instruments aren't strung and set up for dropped or lowered tuning

    Ska & Reggae

A year and a half later, and I just searched and listened to all of those. AWESOME list. "What brought this on?" you might ask? I was on my second BEvERage at the sushi place around the corner and a song on their playlist just had the best ska rhythm guitar skank. I had to ask the sever what it was. She said that: It was her playlist The band is 9mm Parabellum Bullet The song is Heart Ni Hi Wo Tsukate She has seen the band live in Japan several times She plays bass, so I showed her pictures of the basses that I have built. I tipped very well. So down the rabbit hole I go.
  18. RIP Gordon Lightfoot. More folk than rock, but still a giant.
  19. Daaaayo! I say daaayaaayaao! Daylight come and me wanna go home. RIP Harry Belafonte, aged 96.
  20. Aw man, I love The Specials, and Gangsters comes up the week that I hurt my wrist shoveling the foot of snow that we got. Maybe I'll be able to play later in the week.
  21. Yes, those are the correct images. I march to a different drummer. Just curious... Do you follow the news?
