  1. Updated Devil, by Shinedown (v1.0)

I will make some adjustments, but I think it's a version that's good enough to call it v1.0

I really need comments, I'm definitely not a musician but I tend to think I've quite a good hear.

The challenge here was to go from scratch, as it's a brand new song

  2. Updated Familiar Taste Of Poison by Halestorm (v2.3)

    • Fixed the vocal track (I won't wake up"" rather than "I wanna wake up", makes more sense)
    • Fixed the way the second riff is played (lower frets)
    • Added a variation you can hear on the lead track (measure 30, middle of first chorus)
    • Split some arpeggio between lead and rhythm, with an open 3rd cord vs open 2nd cord
    • Used some open 3rd cord on the bass when it made sense
    • Shorten the gap between chord changes / hand shapes
  3. Added:

Halestorm - Freak Like Me v1.0

That doesn't seem too complicated as is, but so fast I have to say it's too difficult for me, as a rookie!

Lead / Rhythm mostly re-done by myself, the sources were a bit helpful but not that much

Bass to be done, I feel like the sources I've found are completely off and don't want to share something I feel doesn't sound like what's supposed to be played

Lead Solo is supposed to be played using a slide ring. I had to change the octgave and use and Octave Up! tunning to make it playable on Rocksmith, but the overall idea remains the same

Rest of the solo doesn't uses a ring (you'll have some time to put it on right before that part, just throw it away when it's over :p)

  4. @@Toopee You can still manage the preview yourself without using wwise as long as the file are correctly named... Using wwise is just looking for issue to creep up and that will also prevent you from using any recent version of wwise which isn't a limitation for the toolkit thanks to the dev magic :)

....Ok, ok.... Well, yeah right, I should have checked this... if RSToolkit does support custom previews, then it's totally no worth spending time in WWise (even if it's not that boring once you've made the right setup ;))

  5. @@firekorn I totally get your point, but in this specific case, it works pretty well

The "solo" is quite simple (solo is really an overstatement I'd say), basically a slide up from 17 up to "32" then down to 12.

The only thing it changes is the speed of the movement you make from 5 to 20 then down to 0.

I'll need to have someone testing it, but I think it's worth a shot ;)

I'm almost done, I'm really interrested having your feedback on that one.

Edit: Finished the first version, if you want to take a look:

  6. You could use tremolo picked slide that goes up to the 24th fret but i'm not sure how good it would actually look like in game.

That's the kind of scenario where you need to experiment with a few different options and maybe even try the "display nothing" style cause it might be better to indicate nothing that something that is just weird or doesn't seems correct.

    Thanks firekorn

I think I'll try something else: lowering the solo by an octave and using a custom tuning.

On a gameplay side it kinda makes sense as you'll play the correct thing even if it's not ideal as it's not really the way it's supposed to be done.

At least, all the notes will be there

  7. FYI you don't have to use Wwise anymore. The toolkit will run it for you if you have it installed.

I know, but for a control-freak like me, I prefer to use WWise so I can use the settings I want, and most importantly (but maybe you can do it in RSToolkit?) manage the preview myself, especially the fade in and out that most of CDLC I've tried are missing.

  8. From my short experience:

    Depends on what you mean.

Learning how to do it takes some time, but EOF and RSToolkit are not too difficult to understand if you're really into it, and even if they could (are keep being) improved, they do the job nicely.

Then it depends, it goes from within an hour if you grab an Ultimate Guitar tab and convert it if you just want something that plays...

To 10s of hours if you transcribe the song yourself, do the vocal, lead, rhythm, bass (and potentially others) parts, polish every single detail, fret position, finger position, hand shapes, exact duration, clean preview song, etc...

Again, I'm not a pro, but usually my process is:

    - Find a good guitar pro file

    - Use Transcribe! to check measure after measure every part and add the vocals if I need to (and determine the BPM)

    - Use Audacity to adapt the audio file and create the preview close to what you hear from ODLCs

    - Use WWise to convert them

    - Use my custom made tool to create the vocal part using the Guitar Pro file

    - Check every guitar part to create 1 to 4 guitar tracks that sounds playable

    - Add Phrases for each of these track

    - In EOF, sets the fret positions, finger positions, handshapes, and polish the notes duration to make it look like an official DLC

    - Create the DLC, in RSToolkit

    - Debug phrase by phrase each track in Rocksmith 2014

That really takes a long time

  9. Hi!

I'm facing two very special issue here while transcribing Freak Like Me by Halestorm.

During the solo, Joe Hottinger uses a slide ring to play notes alternating between the 1st and 2nd cord from fret 17 up to 24... and then keeps going up to the bridge, faster and faster (I think at one point he reaches a theoretical 32th fret, from what I heard, but I'm no pro)

I guess he's not the first one doing it, but well... I never saw that, to be honest.

First an simplest issue is... how would you display an alternating slide between two cords?

I'm thinking about either just writing the notes with no slide, or short slides of 1 fret, or slides with no ending, but I think it'll look confusing.

Second, and that's a bigger issue I assume has no real solution, how to even write this part?

When I try this on EOF, it tells me fret higher than 24 won't display correctly in Rocksmith 2 (and well, I can't blame it :))

Should I just ignore the part above 24? Replace by 0s or 24s?

Note: the best video I found about it (well, that's where I understood how he did it)

Timestamp 2:50 (already set in the following link to make it easier for you if you don't like that kind of music ;))

    https://youtu.be/88VK9KcO2Jg?t=2m50s

I could also do just like this acoustic version where it's been extremely simplified, but... man, where's the fun?

I just wish Rocksmith would support and display slide rings ;)

  13. Updated "Familiar Taste Of Poison" by Halestorm

    - Fixed a wrong chord (Am instead of A)

    - Fixed a few things on the bonus track

    - Improved the handshapes with the same look as official DLCs

    - A couple of minor changes that makes the overall much better

  14. Thanks so much @@Rockfirstlast!

I checked in Transcribe! and you were absolutely right about the A minor, that's now fixed

I didn't realize for the Handshape Sustains, not only did I add the breaks but I also extended the end of handshapes, as I saw it's done on official DLCs, this last part is more a detail, but it's still a nice improvement.

I made a pass on every track and uploaded a new version, let me know if you have any other comment :)

  15. Hi all,

I'm still working in parallel on different CDLCs and feel like I learn a bit more every time, not only on CDLC creation, but also guitar playing (learning how things work makes me realize lots of things)

Last time, firekorn gave me precious advices, and I wonder if someone would be kind enough to test my latest upload and give me some more.

Here is the link (Familiar Taste Of Poison by Halestorm)

    A few things:

    • As I wrote in the description, the Bonus track is just for fun, that's the vocal part I wrote to sync the lyrics. I know it's a bit weird, but I kinda like to play it, even if it's definitely not meant to be played on guitar

I wonder if it would work singing it on a microphone [of course using the same octave]

Probably not, or at least it would be far from perfect as it's not been designed to

    • Bass is in Drop C... That's super low, but I'm confident it's how it's supposed to be played, and the sources usually agrees with it
    • On the Lead part, I switch between the arpeggio (which represents 90% of the song to be honest) and the riffs. I just don't want to leave this track almost blank
    • It's the first time I've added phrases in a DLC, comments on this specific topic are super welcome
    • I know there's already this song in the database, but I think my version is so different it deserves its place
    • For some reason, that song gives me goosebumps, so I'll be grateful if you can help me improving it, it's quite simple but I really enjoy it
  16. Update: Uploaded "Familiar Taste Of Poison" by Halestorm

I'm quite proud of this CDLC. I used a few sources for inspiration, but remade a huge part of the tabs.

    • Lead: Main riff with the variations you hear on the album track
    • Rhythm: Mostly what you hear on the live performance
    • Bass [Drop C]: I used Transcribe! It's funny how sometimes you think you hear something, but you realize it's wrong. The notes here should be what is really played
    • Bonus: This is just for fun, I transcribed and made an adaptation of the vocal part. Don't take it too seriously, please let me know what you think about it, I wonder if I should do it for my other CLDCs or is it just a waste of time

    I took some liberties:
If you listen carefully, the main riff is done by two different guitars (one for Left, the other for Right) and I think the notes are not exactly the same, or maybe just the accents.
For that part, I wrote what you really hear, and what Halestorm plays live. Maybe I'll change it later to have each part of a different track (Lead / Rhythm) but it sounds nice the way it currently is.
Sometimes the riff switches between an open 4th and 5th cord, I might have a few wrong, will try to fix this in an update, but it doesn't sound bad either way.

    Disclaimer:
I know there's already a version of this song, but unlike the other one:
    - Dynamic Difficulty is handled
    - There is sections and phrases
    - I think my version is overall more accurate (used Transcribe! to check every single note)
    - Vocal is present
    - The tempo at the end of the song is correctly done
    - Rhythm part is not essentialy blanks (filled with the main part when necessary)
    - Yeah, I set my version to 2.1 even if it's the first upload just because I think my version is an improvement over the existing one

If you have any comment, I'll be super happy to hear them, let me know your thoughts and if there's things that should be modified, I'll do it

  17. Update: still working on If You Only Knew by Shinedown (still need to complete the bass)

And also working on Au Paradis by Gérald de Palmas (French artist) I bought the official tab book but it's... Awful, really a disaster, even the voice is not synced, didn't think official material could be that bad.

I think it's unlikely this artist will ever be on RS, and nobody made a CDLC, so I think it's worth a try.

Anyway, I'm having fun transcribing the whole thing by myself (problem is my lack of knowledge concerning the chords)

I'm using Transcribe! which is an awesome tool with lots of functionalities.

The bass was super easy to retrieve, still got some work with the different guitars and other instruments (I can at least hear those: acoustic, electric, electric with echo, violin and banjo which is replaced by a resonator when played live afaik)

If you know of a custom tune that sounds like a banjo or even resonator guitar, I'm interested!

  18. I was unsure between the 1st or 3rd fret, thanks for the help on this

I wasn't talking about handshape for the solo, but hand position on the fret. I made sure there's less move, but I agree it's still not really convenient to play.

And yep, that's what I ment by "finding a better solution", finding a different way to play with different strings

...And I'm sure not asking you to find the solutions for me, your feedback is already a great help ;)

    Cheers
