  1. Scores for all but Coheed so far. Might tune down and play it after my diploma exam on Wednesday. Pink Floyd: http://i.imgur.com/DKkeJ3W.png http://i.imgur.com/SwVrEXR.png http://i.imgur.com/d6fUqIx.png RHCP: http://i.imgur.com/HTSfApG.png http://i.imgur.com/Jb0yXtC.png Carl Barker: Taking the lead on bass for now, but if anybody wants to go after it I won't be improving my bass score this week. http://i.imgur.com/ULITXEG.png http://i.imgur.com/FXUk79B.png http://i.imgur.com/SrSdAA1.png Almost have the intro down on lead. Getting it down will clear those strikes and give my score a bit of a boost. Even if it's not counting for leading roles. And just to double check with the ranks for Rhythm and Lead, Im being counted for the Adv. categories, right?
  2. I was thinking about all the bass suggestions and all the possible changes to the scoring and ranking system we could adjust for the master class. And I was thinking, specifically for bass, since the issue lies there predominantly. But, we could throw in a new class altogether that goes up and above Master and uses songs that strongly feature bass or are bass solos that challenge the players (namely myself, neverend and maybe some others) in technical skill, speed, etc. One example was Anaesthesia by Metallica as MilkManDan had mentioned earlier, but the problem with that song was that it has no guitar parts. Other examples are bass solo stuff by virtuosos such as Jaco, Wooten, Evan Brewer, etc. On top of that, since many of the songs would be extremely challenging, I think it could be something that changes over a two week or monthly basis to give whoevers interested the time to practice and learn the song, but still participate in the regular championship and life. Thoughts @@Mortalo? And anybody else? Master Class and Advanced could stay the same, or have some ranking adjustments and the new class for bass or maybe other paths as well would simply go above 10 so we don't have to review how we look at rating the songs currently.
  3. @@Mortalo I believe Carl Barker is an advanced song, but not a Master song. I believe I rated it at 8 for rhythm and lead and at 7 for bass. And if it wasn't for the intro on lead, it would be down to a 7 for sure. I haven't tried Mother May I, so I don't know where that relates. But for the lead, the intro is fast and tricky to learn. The rest of the song is mostly minor third/second intervals on the B and E strings with some jazzy dead notes and some semi-fast fills and movement that may take a stop or two in RR. The rhythm has some more lead-like parts for a rhythm position and offers some faster sections for rhythm with some fast power/octave chord changes in the chorus. Oh also that tricky 766 harmonic I cant hit >.<
  4. @@MilkmanDan Some good suggestions, I found a problem with 46 & 2 with the recognition of the D octave chord. As in none of them registered, and there are a handful of the chord about halfway through and at the end of the song. Sight-read at about 95% in Learn-A-Song, with all the chords missed after doing a shortlived Score Attack where I failed at the first octave chord phrases since none of them registered. But I'm definitely behind what you're saying. I'd rather have some tougher songs to battle over actual accuracy and struggle for that sweet 100% rather than just battle for score over a song we've clearly already mastered to a ludicrous level.
  5. Ya ya for sure, it definitely has it's hits and misses and the "post-hardcore" genre is very widely defined and has a huge variety from things like Fall of Troy and Hail the Sun to Dance Gavin Dance, Alexisonfire, etc. The groove can be tough with some weird time and syncopated rhythms, but I love it haha. Ya, agreed. That was a little ridiculous and I don't think I could push that much again haha. We'll try and keep it more sanity friendly and maybe a bit more fair to the other mc bassists here. Do you folk play on a real bass, or are you running emulated on the guitar? Always wondered... I use my 4-string Washburn Taurus bass for bass always. I believe @@then3verend usually uses a real bass as well. Though he mentioned emulating it on his Dean yesterday.

  7. @@then3verend I agree completely that there should be a clause to that. It can give me (or anyone, but in my case 3 out of 5 weeks in a row) a bit of an unfair advantage having prior experience with the songs; the music I like and play a lot isn't the most popular among the folks as well, I'm sure some variety would be appreciated. Also, good fight bud. Thought I for sure had lost yesterday. Sustaining the fight a bit longer had it not been for technical difficulties would've been interesting. Also, for a masterclass song, this week is quite easy aside from the intro to the lead which isn't too bad once you make sense of it.
  8. Damn dude, the bass rivalry is real, that's a shitty deal.
  9. So, heres my big whammy. I've never gone so tryhard in this comp, and don't know if I ever will again. Here's a progression of my madness and determination. http://i.imgur.com/jI5nUYr.png http://i.imgur.com/VRNE08J.png http://i.imgur.com/gc9dLJJ.png http://i.imgur.com/gd2zl5e.png http://i.imgur.com/FJ7wkdJ.png Get rekt Btw that's all 27 of those playthroughs being MM 100%'s except for the first four, two of which were hard 100%s and one brainfart on MM first time. Improved rhythm as well slightly. Awful score, but better streak/accuracy? http://i.imgur.com/muK81rI.png Also some Offsrping on Lead just for fun. Bat Country's out of my league on lead and I don't have time to learn Carpe Diem Baby, now that I beat Neverends score, I gotta study. http://i.imgur.com/76ywb2R.png
  10. @@then3verend I'm comin for ya boi. http://i.imgur.com/jI5nUYr.png
  11. My main two instruments here. My Fender Squier Stratocaster which cost about $200 with a beginner kit including a small amp, carrying case, strap, etc. And my Washburn Taurus Series T12 which was worth about $400 and has never let me down. http://i.imgur.com/eIkZBCv.jpg Here's my acoustic I got over the summer. ~$300 Simon and Patrick Songsmith. Sounds and plays beautifully, just doesn't have a pickup installed. http://i.imgur.com/Yv4nlA8.jpg And my last guitar (Oscar Schmidt by Washburn) was a free gift from a friend who didn't use it anymore. Rough around the edges, needs some adjustments and to have the volume knob adjusted with some fresh strings, but for free it plays great and is nice to keep in D Standard. http://i.imgur.com/8TfRzzu.jpg
  12. Pushing the envelope a tiny bit on bass. Also Rhythm score for Adv. http://i.imgur.com/oqNZfeN.png http://i.imgur.com/MErTek4.png
  13. @@then3verend Oh I already have my first MM score. I was trying to improve it before I posted haha. You aren't taking my A7X from me though! And I honestly don't think I'll get sick of Bat Country within a week. http://i.imgur.com/WGARnEW.png Also scores for Megadeth and Offspring. Won't be doing Carpe Diem because I don't like the song enough to tune down and play it. http://i.imgur.com/FsR7ct1.png http://i.imgur.com/j9ApxE7.png
  14. @@MilkmanDan I played through the Megadeth and there is definitely a problem with the double stop slides recognition at the beginning. Took me 5 restarts for them to register properly.
  15. All great artists this week! Sure I'll take my time to play each song since I love all the artists, even though Carpe Diem Baby is one of my not favorite Metallica songs haha. I'd be lying if I said Avenged Sevenfold isn't my favorite band. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't love this song to death and have played it before. I'd also be lying if I said bass isn't going into MM this week. http://i.imgur.com/X5f51oa.png
  16. Don't know why I'm having so much trouble getting a score. My second 100% run netted me this score. For some reason my next 15 100% runs haven't gotten above my first score... Its getting worse so I'm going to give up and let my wrist rest. http://i.imgur.com/yK3RHbg.png
  17. Been so busy with finals, barely anytime to practice and forgot to post my scores from the weekend when I did my short reviews! Gonna try and improve my Johnny B. Goode score to beat out then3verend tonight, no way this could've gone into MM with all the alterations of the verses. Especially since walking basslines are almost never played the exact same twice by a performing bassist. http://i.imgur.com/ehuJJl4.png http://i.imgur.com/GkrKr16.png http://i.imgur.com/8DNU7Sw.png http://i.imgur.com/5PLbRVo.png
  18. After playing all the bass songs, here's my verdict for each: Gotcha - Naked - 3 I believe this is the easiest of the bunch, a little tough for beginners as there are some quickish fills that require shifting, but all in all the main riff is really simple, I'd probably rate it at about a 3. Amy Winehouse - 5 A bit tougher than Gotcha as it has more shifting and utilizes all the strings more than the Gotcha tune. I'd rate it at about a 5. McFly - Johnny - 6.5-7 This is a walking bassline that definitely is tougher than the above two. Walking basslines can be tough for those not experienced, I play electric and upright bass in a jazz band, so I'm quite familiar with walking basslines, so my view may be a bit biased I suppose. I'd probably rate it at about a 6.5-7 though, fun to play and the shifting is not very bad as the whole song is in two positions with one small pivot to the 11th fret somehwere in the song. Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name - 7.75 I think this should stay as masterclass, it is the fastest of the bunch and has the most shifting and moving around, as well as having one-note phrase bass chords that I keep missing aha. This one I'd rate at around 7.5-8. If Johnny B Goodes BPM was a lot faster, it'd be tougher, but the walking bassline in it really isn't that tough once you get a grasp of where your fingers are.
  19. Ah, I see that now -- got confused by the gold pick master icon. Still, 99.8% is pretty jaw-drop worthy from me anyway! :) Nevermind, retract my statement I figured it out haha. Just had a brainfart in the bridge. http://i.imgur.com/HFU24zM.png
  20. Haha, that score isn't actually from master, I've tried a couple master mode runs, but I keep messing up the verses because sometimes it starts on the A on the E string, and others the octave up and I keep messing them up.
  21. Bit better on lead except some X's for some like one note phrases I goofed up. http://i.imgur.com/dvuWL4Z.png And so close to the hundy on bass! Messed up the last note in the "weebly weebly" section and maybe one or two in the end run. http://i.imgur.com/8xlupJA.png
  22. Ahh yes! Sweet for picking FCPREMIX, super fun song once you get it down! I know I'm not really in master class for guitar, but I'm more of a learn the song's I really like kind of guy. Here's my first scores due to having experience with the song quite a bit already. http://i.imgur.com/oMBExOG.png http://i.imgur.com/zgIE0Hq.png
  23. @@Gamut @@NoonyDeloony The lyrics are very cynical haha, I see it as a "warning" to ladies that most guys are just "lady-killers". The rest of the EP this song is on has cynical and some very cringy lyrics haha. Their new album has more refined lyrics and their style is a bit different, but I'm just waiting for tabs from it!
  24. @@then3verend My thoughts too, it's basically the type of music that you actually have to learn and for the most part memorize it to be able to play it through. Updated Slayer score: http://i.imgur.com/vBwYo3x.png And Weezer.. Becasue Weezers cool.: http://i.imgur.com/SRx38ln.png
  25. First runthrough/sight-read with fingers, Slayer's always a lot of fun. Definitely gets to be a workout in my right hand; by the end I started making stupid fumbles. One part I'll have to look at in RR, other than that I just need to be consistent. http://i.imgur.com/7RvkqG0.png Also HTS Bass, obviously have experience and plays with the song as I created the chart aha. Super fun to play. http://i.imgur.com/nW2RKhc.png Annndd HTS Lead, played it a lot when I was charting it trying to catch mistakes and learning the song meanwhile, so a lot of tries on it previously, though I've improved it from the last time I played. http://i.imgur.com/NUBJ3M2.png
