There are a lot of ways to do this and I'm sure everyone has a preference. For me, I put my Rocksmith Bass Volume @ 0 - but crank up everything else using the decent PC speakers I have. Bass is plugged into a cheap Behringer Chorus pedal (turned off) so it's basically a splitter. Line A (no effects) goes into the PC. Line B goes into my Zoom B3 which feeds to my amp. That way I can mess around with my bass tones/effects whenever I want with no impact to the game. If I want to blend with the music I can, if I want to crank up the bass and focus on my playing primarily I can. I prefer this much more than having the bass coming out of the same speakers as the other music, like you said there's too much that gets masked.

Wife got us tix to see Third Eye Blind this week so we could relive our 90s, have to say they were pretty disappointing. Played for about an hour, but that included at least 15 mins of downtime between songs. At one point they mentioned they had come back from a European tour 3 wks ago and hadn't played since then, it showed. They apparently couldn't even bother to come up with a set list because they stopped between almost every song and had a little discussion. Tix were $55 a piece so it was not cheap either. However, what saved the night for us is one of their openers was Nate Reuss, lead singer of fun. Didn't know anything about the guy but he put on a fantastic show and I quickly came to realize my kids have been listening to his music for the past couple of years. Ran through 4 or 5 hits from fun. as well as the song he cowrote with Pink, couple solo album songs I had never heard and then nailed a rendition of Rocket Man. Got to give him props, the guy put on a good show unlike 3EB.

Pink Floyd, Police, U2, Men at Work, Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel are some I can think of that he's probably familiar with the tunes whether he listened to those bands or not.

Mine went from working 75% of the time to not working at all over the last month. However, the question I really want answered is why do I insist on clicking on the preview play button even though I know it isn't working?!?!?!?

Buy! Buy! Buy! I'm a beginner who didn't start playing until 2 years ago when I picked up Rocksmith. I've had 3 big jumps in how frequently I played (and subsequently how much better I got). My first step was getting my own bass. I was borrowing a friends 5 string for the first several months and I just couldn't get the hang of it. Bought my own bass, a very nice starting bass and that got me playing much more because I wanted to pick up the instrument. The second and probably biggest jump was getting an amp and using that to hear my playing instead of through the game. If you haven't done that I highly recommend it. It is a whole different ballgame when you can clearly hear your own tone etc. set aside from the rest of the music. Bass is totally turned off in the game and all i hear is my amp and it really helped me understand the instrument better - something you don't get through the game produced tones. The last jump just happened a month ago. I upgraded my bass (ironically - it was cheaper than my original one but it is used and I knew what to look for now) and having a higher quality instrument has gotten me picking it up all the time and playing with & without Rocksmith. I'll grab it and play for 10 mins just because I walked by from one room to the next. Anything that gets you playing more is going to make you a better player and give you more enjoyment.

Maybe you already have a version of these since you said you use Sony but I've always liked the Sony DJ style headphones. Very good sound quality for the price. Make sure you crank your volumes all the way up on your bass and calibrate it within Rocksmith. Helps a little but i've found there's not a whole lot you can do, Rocksmith just doesn't do well on some of the bass tones. I've got a bunch of downtuned deftones songs etc. that I can't ever break 70 or 80% on because it just doesn't recognize the notes even though I'm hitting them.

I believe it has to do with whether or not you bought the game through steam or not. I have a steam account but I didn't buy the game through steam, so if I try to buy content on steam (even though I have a legit PC version I paid for) it gives me an error message that I don't have a Steam version of the game. Haven't cared enough to figure out if there is a fix for it, their loss of funds.

There are scales and other practice tools people have uploaded. Often times the Artist will be listed as "You" but I haven't actually used any of them so I can't speak to their effectiveness.

Start with shorter intervals. Play everyday for 30 mins each day and you'll work up some good callouses. I know I've thrown a couple layers of athletic tape on the tips of my fingers from time to time when I've had issues and it's just enough of an extra layer to keep me from getting blisters.

Parameters on how much you want to spend, how many strings etc. would be very helpful. Type of music you play etc. if you head over to Talkbass.com you'll find endless amounts of threads on various basses that I'm sure may peak your interest.

Father's Day present - got the Zoom B3 which I'm loving so far. If anybody has any favorite settings let me know and I'll check them out.

Money isn't really the issue, it's more the damn self control I have ;) I know it's a casual hobby for me and I'm probably not ever playing for anybody other than myself so I'm not planning on investing too much in it at the moment (famous last words I'm sure). At first glance I really like that B3 - looks like we have an early leader.

Been playing bass for about 18 months now, thanks largely to Customsforge keeping me interested. Started out borrowing a friend's bass and after a few months I finally purchased my own, an Ibanez SR300 that has been a great beginner bass. A little while later I wanted to add a bit more punch when playing RS and the ability to play outside the game so I purchased a Fender Rumble 100 combo. Been very happy with that around the house as well. What I haven't done yet is add any pedals and effects to my set up (the Fender has basic distortion and a couple very simple tone effects). I've got one cheap chorus pedal that I'm really only using as a splitter to play RS and my amp together but I've reached the point where I'd like to play around more with my sound. First thought of course was to just start picking up various pedals and going down that route which I'm sure is the most common route folks take. However, as I started looking around at what to potentially get I really started getting interested in the multieffects pedalboards. Set ups such as the Boss GT-10B really caught my eye as a one stop shop for endless effects. Reading various comments for and against I realize there are strong opinions on which route to go. I know it's an individual preference of sound, convenience, cost, etc. so every player's situation is not the same. For me, a person that's largely going to be just messing around at home, it's appealing to have a simple solution (even though the solution is very complex) of having a single device to mess with and have the most flexibility in what I can get out of it once I learn it. On the downside, it's a big upfront investment, steeper learning curve, and you may not get the 'best' version of a sound that's possible. I'm just not sure the best version of the sound is something I need though. In my playing situation I just don't think I'm really going to want to drop $75 and up per pedal to get some of the more popular pedals out there. I'd probably end up buying the cheaper Behringer copies of them anyway. Curious to what people's thoughts are the subject? Anyone make a similar choice? Any suggestions on multi-effects boards to look at and/or must have pedals if I go the other route? I've also wonder if I should just put all of that on hold for now and possibly get another bass just to play something different for awhile.

I was on Xbox360 and switched over to PC about 6 months ago and I'm so glad I did. More songs, easier to use the menus when you don't have to deal with a controller, just having a keyboard and mouse sitting in front of you instead of having to reach over and pick up a controller after every song is a time saver. Even though I have a bunch of official DLC on my xbox I've only signed in twice to play it because it's just not worth the hassle to me. One thing to consider is your speaker set up on your pc. I play my bass through my amp and the pc only plays the rest of the track so that may be something to consider if you don't have a good set of speakers.

Finally remembered to do this. Very easy to do - open up GP on ipad, hit the + at the top, Files from computer option - it gives you a http:// address, go onto your PC browser - throw in the address - brings you to a screen and you can drag and drop your files onto your iPad. This being the second time I've done it - it actually gives you a list too of all the files you already have on your device which is convenient. Total time to get to the set up is < 1 minute and then it's just dependent on your network speed and how many you're doing as to how quickly the files port over. I did like 500 at once so I just set it up and walked away for a bit and had no problems.

I apologize for the incomplete answer in advance because I don't have my Ipad with me at the moment, but seems to me when I did this about a month ago it was very easy. I went through the process of converting all my CDLC into gp5 files. I don't own GP on the PC so I just used tuxguitar there, but I did purchase the GP app and it was relatively painless loading them. Trying to remember off the top of my head but it was something simple like being on the same wifi network as the PC where the files were located, had to connect the two and once you start the import process it runs by itself - just takes a long time if you've got a lot of files to do. If I remember I'll double-check and get you more details tonight.

If you figure out which song it was I recommend posting it over in the Jammers etc. topic in General so others can avoid until it is fixed.

Maybe have a Charter $$ Leaderboard where those folks putting in the most effort to chart (thus raising the most money for the site) get recognized in some way.

Being new to the bass myself artists I can think of that have a lot of easier songs to play are: Coldplay, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Alt J, Pink Floyd, Weezer, U2, Jack Johnson, Police/Sting, Radiohead.

First concert I guess you’d have to say was the Pointer Sisters in 1985 when I happened to be at Disneyland when they were filming some special. First intentional concert was U2 Joshua Tree tour in 1987. Lots of festivals and had a hookup for free tickets to an arena for many years so I saw a tremendous amount of bad music.
