  1. I like to do normal exercises, but the most fun way to learn a technique is to play along with it in an actual song. The features in Rocksmith for practicing make it ideal for this kind of practicing in my opinion.

What are some good songs for the following techniques?

    Tremolo picking

    Sweep picking

    Economy picking

    String skipping

    Legato

    Bends

    etc...

So far my favorite songs for practicing are the following:

Ensiferum - Ferrum Aeternum is a great beginner song. An intro track to a metal album where hand position stays the same (between 7th and 10th frets) with lots of string changes and some string skipping.

Ensiferum - Little Dreamer is my go-to practice for tremolo picking with string changes (the second part).

I'd really like to find some more good practice songs for an absolute beginner like me. Thanks!

  2. Hey all. My name is Eric, and I'm a programmer living in San Francisco.

I bought a guitar 2 years ago, inspired by Jari Mäenpää of Ensiferum and Wintersun fame, but didn't pick it up until 2 weeks ago when I found and bought Rocksmith on a whim. I'm practicing a half hour to an hour every day now and hope to be able to play some sweet metal riffs eventually.

Check my last.fm and let me know if we have any favorite artists in common http://www.last.fm/user/zeeky

    Cheers
