  1. I've played a few times this week but I'm always a bit lazy with posting my scores. As usual with Black Keys I find this to be...okay. I will say that I'm really digging Dan Auerbach's other band, The Arcs: Chvrches are one of my favorite bands...I've seen them live twice and they put on a great show. They are anything but generic: This was pretty fun: And a solid new Metallica track...unfortunately I had the same note recognition issues as others, but less so when I played it a second time. I suspect it has to do with the tone but haven't tested it with a different tone: This was rather insane even by Joe Dart standards...well done @ cacahuate51 on the 98+%:
  2. From testing: My appreciation for KoL has grown quite a bit in the last year or two.,, especially with the release of When You See Yourself which I think is their best album so far, Their basslines are generally quite active and fun to play: Ah, STP, I have a sort of complicated relationship with their music. You have to understand that in the early-to-mid 90s they were absolute gods in the U.S. And for the most part, I wasn't that into their stuff. Like with KoL, I have grown to appreciate them more over the years (though I still wouldn't call myself a huge fan) mostly because of their excellent low end arrangements. Like this one: One of my least favorite Vulfpeck songs to listen to...but Joe Dart never fails to bring top notch bass work: I already mentioned my love for Baroness in my earlier post. Unfortunately there are only a handful of CDLC available for them right now and this is probably the highest quality of those: And of course the Crosby tribute. I know I cap'ed it too late and my score won't count but with all the harmonics I'm not sure I want to make another run at 100 percent:
  3. Notes: "The Bandit" is probably pushing it for beginner level on all paths but it juts works better that way as we don't have many beginner songs in the SSL The standard "Lively Up Yourself" rhythm path is almost entirely muted reggae strumming and would not be a good option for the Championship. The bonus rhythm path follows the bass and is at least more interesting if not much of a challenge. Baroness is a criminally unknown band (Mastodon-ish but I prefer Baroness vocals and bass arrangements for the most part)..."Swollen and Halo" is a lot of fun to play. Unfortunately I couldn't justify a B Standard bass chart as a regular Advanced or MC so I made it Bonus Adv. I believe the lead and rhythm parts are challenging enough to use for MC but I'm interested to hear feedback. I had another song selected for MC Lead but for various reasons didn't think it would work. "Lonely Town" lead path is a rhythm part as the piano plays the lead melody in that song. I really wanted to use "Carry On" as the Tribute song as it's so fun to play and appropriate as a tribute...but David Crosby had a pretty limited contribution to that one (backing vocals only) compared to "Almost Cut My Hair" which he wrote and for which he sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar. I will add "Carry On" to the main SSL for future selection

  5. Another hour or two until I post the new week...consider this the final warning
  6. New week coming later tonight, so you all have a few hours at least to get your final scores in. I’ll give a warning when I’m close to posting.
  7. @ kayteck He posted that David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young) just passed away. That screenshot was posted as a tribute to Mr. Crosby. I plan to include a tribute song in Week 483 as well. I've played a few times this week but neglected to post my scores until now. This one is really enjoyable to play for an easier bassline: And a small improvement, though I don't think I'll catch @ Hyphema :
  8. I don't know how much more I can improve this one...will concede for this week as I don't think I can catch Mikson. It might be hurting me that I'm playing in the original tuning but I'm weird about that:
  9. The chords in this one are awkward to play. Hard one to rate difficulty because of that: This one was weird, it had a cool intro and then went into a chorus that sounded like...a lesser imitation of Meatloaf? Not my thing I guess: Now we're talking. Good classic Testament. Little bit of a White Zombie sound to this one too: This was...okay. Didn't capture my score correctly but wasn't inspired to play it a second time: I don't know what it is with Riverside but they are my kind of prog to play...their arrangements just click for me and I really enjoy them:
  10. Not much time to play this week so I tried to make the most of my one session. This makes me grumpy because the chart is missing a number of fills that would make it more fun and challenging. Good song though: High Int/Low Adv for me, maybe a (6): Fun fact - Mini Mansions is fronted by Queens of the Stone Age bassist Michael Shuman: After a few more tries: Kinda meh on this one...awkward chart: And Hook, classic song from a band that is/was famous in the US for their live shows more than their studio work. @ Mikson you have to check out the lyrics for this song, they are hilarious. Also, I literally got a blister on my strumming middle finger from playing this song twice in a row:
  11. Hey, no worries @ Mikson . Your call on what to do, if you end up changing it (or not) I’ll understand. Another idea is to use “Black Winter Night” as intermediate and the Blind Guardian song as advanced. That one section of the BG track is MC level hard IMO.
  12. Cool song, not a big fan of how it's charted with all the little unnecessary slides: This...is sadly a poor chart. The whole middle of the song is off sync, the most interesting bass part of the song isn't charted (the little bridge before halfway point), and it's just not very good: It happens that DragonForce has other winter themed songs with CDLC. I highly recommend switching Adv Bass to this one. I see that it's no longer on CF so I can share it from here: Most DT is still a bit above my level: I will be on holiday for the next week so this will be it for me on Week 479. Good luck, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all!
  13. And improvements on ADV: I generally don't love bass parts with lots of slides but these are not so bad. Merry Christmas to all!
  14. First runs for the week (did these earlier in the week but forgot to post):
  15. Man, just behind @ Mikson on streak here despite the higher score. I thought this would be my final run but will have to keep pushing. I do love this song:
  16. Thanks for all the feedback everyone - I'm glad people are enjoying the songs. I don't see a strong enough justification to switch the Adv and MC bass songs at this point. Improvement:
  17. My apologies to @ Hyphema who got the win in Adv Bass. As for the ratings on Adv v MC Bass, it's definitely a matter of perspective. I scored around 99% on my sight read of Make Me Smile, probably in part because I know and love the song. I played all of the bass songs in succession yesterday to make sure I had them in the right order, and I felt like Eiledon was more difficult. That said, if others feel strongly that we should switch them, I'm okay with that. For now I will keep them as is, and update the MMS difficulty to 7.
  18. I didn't remember to screenshot all of my test scores, but here are a few:
  19. So this is my theme week, I hope you all enjoy it. I was inspired by @ RSjeffH who commented recently about wanting just some old school rock...was thinking about how to bring that out in a theme week and realized there were some pretty big time classic bands who hadn't yet been played in the Championship. All of these bands are making their Championship debuts. There were a few others that I couldn't fit in (Kiss, Bad Company, The Pretenders) but I'll add the extra tested songs to the main SSL for future use. I do apologize in advance for the difficulties being a bit bunched together, especially on Lead and Bass. The fact is that most classic rock falls solidly into the Int-Adv range. A big thank you to @ Mikson who helped out with Lead and Rhythm testing - also congrats on the narrow victory in Adv Bass!
