  1. Fair point, it probably depends on the individual.
  2. Probably a good way to get used to playing octaves...should be higher than a 2.5 IMO just because I don't consider that a beginner skill, but it's a super slow tempo and a chill track: Solid, I might go closer to 6 than a 5.5: And I missed the song change for Adv before I played this but I was going to question the 6.5 difficulty. I'd probably rate it 7.5: I look forward to trying the new Adv bass selection.
  3. I like the FC sound and guitar work...basslines are mostly a whole lot of tedious strumming from what I've seen so far: I don't think this will be good enough to win but maybe I'll have more time to work on it...and I'm happy with the improvement:
  4. First tries this week: I've always loved the synchronization of the "beating like a hammerrrrr...beating like a hammeerrrrrrrrr" with the rhythm in this song. Great band, their most recent album was killer: Good tribute to TT: This one is going to be tough for that one repeated riff with the little slide. Good Adv challenge: Classic: What a wild ride...no letup anywhere on this one. Maiden's best album IMO:
  5. What @ Mikson said 100%. We have a good competitive balance in Adv bass IMO and also a better variety of CDLC in that 6-7 difficulty range
  6. Looks like I'm just ahead of @ Mikson by streak I have no intentions of moving up to MC though...agree that after some practice this feels more like a 6.5, as there aren't any truly hard sections. And a few duet tracks where Tina Turner absolutely slaps with the vocals:
  7. Fun challenge - I had tried this once before and the speed tripped me up...this time I was (more) ready:
  8. Good variety here...I'm glad to be around for this momentous event. Thanks @ Rodman for the selection and for preserving those that didn't make it to the SSL. My only small complaint/request would be to please make the Interrupters song the main Adv instead of Stayin' Alive, which is fun but IMO definitely too easy for Adv level. I would rate it a 5.5. Also, which version of Stayin' Alive are we going with? I've tested both but I think the GHRamsey version is better, with a slightly more refined chart, better tone, and it has guitar parts. My first runs: I really love playing reggae bass so this was a nice surprise that I hadn't heard before: Fun like so much of AM's stuff: A classic. I would rate it a 5.5 difficulty maybe: Probably my favorite Rush song to play on bass from what I've tried: Brutal song. My strumming hand is recovering: Still need to get in a few more including She's Kerosene and Powerslave album...
  9. I'm taking the approach of suggesting some great DLC from a few of my favorite records of all time: Daft Punk (feat. Julian Casablancas) - Instant Crush (L untested R untested B 6.5) The Smashing Pumpkins - Geek U.S.A. (L untested R untested B 6.5) or Hummer (L ~7 R untested B 6.5) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop (L ~8 R B 8.5) - newer/better version than the one previously used in week 349! Iron Maiden - Powerslave (L MC R MC B 8 ) - truly stunning that this masterpiece has never been one of the dozens of Maiden songs in the CS...could even use the album - sadly minus the Aces High ODLC - as a full album GoG/GoR/GoB. IMO it's their best album and that's saying something
  10. @ cacahuate51 One of the unwritten rules we've followed here is that we rate a part based on the hardest section in the song...so both Tell the World and A Farewell to Kings are mostly Int-level but have Adv-level sections, whereas Two Tickets to Paradise doesn't have any Adv-level sections IMO but the whole thing is nonstop high Int-level and the cumulative effect of sustaining that could arguably make it more challenging than the other two. BTW the vast majority of Rush/Geddy Lee CDLC are more challenging than this one.
  11. I have to admit that even being a bass player only, the idea of picking a handful of top favorite CDLC for this has been daunting/overwhelming. I second all of @ lowender 's picks for sure...but give me a few more days to come up with a few of my own suggestions. We are fortunate enough to have some really fantastic bass charters past and present!
  12. From testing: A lovely BB song, only a few fills but they really work well and feel nice to play: I have mixed feelings about this one...a classic song, it just gets a bit tedious playing all the chord progressions: Fun hair metal...the solo is an enjoyable challenge on bass: By Geddy Lee standards this is pretty tame. Overall I liked it:
  13. OP updated to correct Lead and Rhy MC winner to @ Razrshred @ Mikson , it would be too difficult to explain in a post how I ended up with this combination of songs. Suffice it to say that I started with rng giving me Anthem of the Angels, Two Tickets to Paradise, and A Farewell to Kings...then realized I needed an Adv Rhy song so chose Tell the World, and then needed MC Rhy so chose Dystopia. So I started with Lead-focused rng then switched to Rhythm selections and ended up with a narrow difficulty range on Bass. I was going to sub in a bass-only track on beginner but given Rodman's view on such things I didn't want to cause a controversy. Anyway, all of the bass charts are solid IMO.
  14. Apologies for the bunched up difficulties in bass...just turned out that way with the rng. Also note that "Two Tickets to Paradise" was a tough one to rate for bass. @ Zoutje had rated it a 5 but that's definitely too low. It doesn't have any one particularly difficult section but having to play little chord progressions throughout the song made it challenging for me to keep a combo going. I settled on a 6 but YMMV. Contrast with "Tell the World" which is 2/3 relatively easy strumming but has an Advanced level solo section. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy.

  16. Hi All - New week is going up in about an hour. Get your final scores in!
  17. Reasonably enjoyable to play but a really weird song...it's like they took a rejected Sabaton song and made it peppy: Big kudos to @ Mikson for this much improved version of Smokers...the previous one had some weird fret logic that made it annoying to play: I like pretty much anything AHJr is involved in. This is more of a 7 IMO. Not sure I'll have another chance to improve my score before I start the new week: I agree that in hindsight this is more of a 7.5 than 8. I rated it back when I was more intermediate level. Cool song, I enjoy several of the tracks from this WM album:
  18. So thanks for sharing your thoughts in detail. I was with you up until this section. In my opinion you can't have the Championship be about competition and fairness and quality...but also about curating songs for people's libraries. Those two things are often at cross purposes with each other. No one is being forced to keep a CS song in their library just because they played it that week. I regularly dislike CS songs and delete them after I record my scores for the week. I don't complain that my library is "deteriorating" because of those bad Championship organizers selecting songs I don't like. Saying we can't include songs with "missing tracks'" is eliminating a huge chunk of high quality DLC, especially for bass. You also mention multiplayer but you're the only one here I can recall posting about playing multiplayer. You mentioned not wanting to do anything that would cause people to leave...well, I don't think any of the above quoted stuff is keeping people around. At least with regard to only using "complete" files. You are making a lot of assumptions about what people want here. I'm going to take any further discussion of this to our organizer chat as I feel like the details of how I/we select songs is better suited there.
