  1. After playing the lead part here is my feedback :

Shorter section, inside the riff repeater we have to wait during some long no guitar part.

There is one slide starting from the 12th fret on the high E that is not correct. The phrases of the lyrics are off.

Thank you for taking the time to test, and post your feedback, Firekorn. It is very much appreciated. I'm a bassist, so feedback on the guitar parts are what I was most looking for. I should have soem time thsi weekend to finally go back and reinstall all the CDLC Tools on this new PC, and look at tweaking the reported issues. Then I can create an updated version that might be closer to being ready to finally post to the database for this. Thanks again! :)

  2. So ask for a Tester, allright here i'm.

That'S definitely not my kind of music.

But i played it and everything works good. Even the Bass Track seems to work in there somehow. I can't say if the Tabs are Correct i never learned that song. But it works how it is.

Thanks Olorin. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you very much for giving it a run through.

  3. This is my main bass, though I own several others. It's an Ibanez Prestige SR1006EBG. I absolutely love the sound of this bass. Warm and Fat. :)

  4. Well, as an experienced bass player (23 years of playing) i have to mention thata) sone of the songs, and that even includes some originals and official dlc's, have somewhat incomplete bass lines. You can hear that where the notes in RS tell you to play for example the root note of a chord for a whole measure, the bass in the backing track sometomes actually moves - sometimes even a lot. That may just be a low fifth or an octave, but sometimes whole runs are simply not transscribed. The reason is imho that the bass lines in the guitar pro files (which i also use) are not correctly made, so no offense to our cdlc creators. B) a lot depends on the songs you choose to play. If you're mainly into mainstream stuff the bass is quite often pretty much straight root notes in a simple rythm. Sometimes there are some ear friendly runs, but even then its kept rather simple.c) picking speed on the bass is most of the time a lot slower than on the guitard) there are almost no chords in the bass linese) to quote my bass teacher: "you earn your money with the first fife frets". A lot of arrangements in RS can be rearranged on the fly to be played exactly there. Why jump to the tenth fret on the e string when you can play an open d string instead if not for a slide?f) much better fretboard overview on the bass than on a guitarg) a bassists job isnt to shine or pose or show off. It's carrying the music in conjunction with the drummer. That said, you might wanna try some arrangements from chili peppers or early, buton aera Metallica if you want a challange on the bass. There are others, but i'm at work and dont have access to the song list of RS.

I can relate with this. I've been playing bass off and on for almost 35 years now. Mainstream music tends to have bass lines that are not as difficult as the guitar. As already stated, usually just peddeling around the chord root.

But there is an awful lot of music that has extremely challenging bass in it, if that what you're looking for. Specifically in the Prog and Fusion Jazz genres, along with some Arena Rock bands. Try some songs by The Who, Yes, Rush, Jethro Tull, Kansas, ELP, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Return To Forever, Weather Report, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic, Spock's Beard, Tool, etc..., and you will probably quickly change your opinion to the bass being a very complex instrument to play. All in my opinon, of course. hehe... :)

  5. I was hoping that maybe someone might have the time to do a test of my Beatles "Hey Bulldog" project. I'd like to get it posted to the database, but I want to make sure it's good enough for that first, and need some objective eyes, ears, and hands to determine that.

If you can leave your comments in my WiP thread after testing, that would be great. Thanks to anyone who is willing to help! It is very much appreciated!

Hey Bulldog (link to WiP thread).

  6. Nice job on the Songs from the Wood file! Very nice (Lets be honest, bass is the only important instrument anyway. hehe...).

Unfortunately I've been busy in my daw building backing tracks again lately for my 2 person project, but I'm hoping to get back into RS and work on some cdlc again soon. These kinds of files like you and Aludog make defiintely make me want to make some more myself, as well as play the excellent files you guys have been making! hehe... :)

  7. I'm new to attempting to create CDLC, but I won't post a song to the database that I think still needs work. I don't think that's right, myslef. I will post it in the Workshop (and have), and ask for people to test parts out for me and leave me feedback (and people have and it has helped considerably). As the site is currently constructed, it's the method I personally believe should be used to help ensure that the content in the Database reflects quality, and not just quantity. If new features are introduced here, that may help, but this is the way I believe the site was intended to function.

I also believe it would be beneficial for us to be able to work in groups, or allow others to fix parts, I would never have an issue with that. This whole idea of ownership of something we don't actually own has made me uneasy since I found this stuff last week. I am trying to create CDLC in order to promote the styles of music I enjoy. I couldn't care less about being recognized for it on some internet forum where I don't personally know anyone. I just want to help people experience and play genres and songs they may have otherwise never tried. It's as simple as that.

Now I just need to finish off my migration to my brand new PC, so I can get back to working on CDLC again. haha...

  8. Nice! I'll try to give it a play later this afternoon before I pull this PC apart. lol  (built a new PC a week ago, and I'm finally moving it into place later today to replace this one. Still have some files to move over to it. Like all this CDLC stuff I've worked on recently. haha...).

  9. The part I move up the neck slightly is the second Riff of the Pre-Verse. It cuts out the position shift between the first, and third riffs that the Tab seemed to have, allowing you to stay in the same position after playing the first riff, the first time,  going into the Verse. I'll look at it again if you need something more detailed, but basically I stay up around the 12th fret throughout the pre-verse with no position shifts back down like I recall that tab doing.

But again, it was fun. I look forward to the finished song, as I am sure many others do here as well! :)

  10. Yeah, I love that bass. haha... I had those wooden knobs made custom to match the body wood. The stock knobs were an ugly black plastic. It's so much better looking now. Haha...

The only issue with the narrow spacing is it makes it tougher to slap on. But then again, even though I've been playing off and on for 34 years, I don't slap much, or well. Haha... Plus I have my '79 Stingray I can slap on. That thing is a slap beast in the right hands (not mine). lol :)

But back to your question, I played the Stingray pretty much exclusively for over 20 years, and it has much wider string spacing than the Ibanez SR 6 strings do. The difference between them has never really bothered me at all. I can switch between with no real problems. Plus the narrower string spacing on the 6 makes for easier chord playing. haha...

  11. Great bass tab! Very accurate. Almost exactly how/where I play it on the neck. There's only one part where I usually play the same part a string over, higher on the neck. But the bass track was pretty solid. And fun! haha...

Obviously many of the note sustains need to be fixed, but I am sure you already know that. One problem I had with playing it was the song volume was too low, in comparison to other RS song files. But the bass at those levels was clean on top, so you may have done that on purpose for this.

As far as the bass tone goes, it's probably just a bit too gritty. But that is probably partially due to my having roundwound strings on all my basses here. I am sure with flatwounds it would be much closer to the original tone just the way it is now. But with my roundwound strings I would usually try to keep the OD low/eliminate with my amp and pedals, and go for that pure piano string sound for this one. Probably not good to scoop the mids either for this one either (not saying you are, just running thoughts through my head and typing them. Haha...). Maybe a little compression too, if I could eliminate the grit from the source signal enough to not add it back in. lol

But overall, the bass part was fun as heck to play. Thanks!

  12. I hope you didn't do Living in the Past, because that's what I'm working on now. :)

In fact, I'd be happy if you could try a WIP version (bass only for now). If you're up for it, you can grab it from my dropbox.

I'm especially looking for tips regarding the tone, as I'm not really happy with it yet.

Love that song! I play that one frequently with friends! Such a fun bassline to play. I'll grab it and give it a try shortly.

And no, I've been avoiding thinking about doing a Tull tune so far, mostly because I knew you were going to do some. I'm trying to finish off an old Beatles rocker still. Have to fix some of the GP tab I imported that's incorrect. But once I finish that up, I'll be immediately looking for my next song. haha... :)

  13. Possibly due to the ads?

That's it! I use Ad Block Pro in FF. I just temporarily disabled it for the Index page, and the page finally finishes loading. I had already tested NoScript, and knew it wasn't that. I should have thought of AdBlock. Oh well, at least that answers that question for me. hehe... Thanks! :)

  14. Is anyone else experiencing this? This has been happening to me since I first found the site last week, probably not long after it first appeared. When I load the site, it never seems to finish loading? The spinner in the browser address bar just keeps spinning. I usually manually stop it, as it annoys me a little bit seeing it spinning like that. I am wondering if this might be contributing to the Load issues you seem to be experiencing with the site? If everyone's browser is continually hitting it all the time when teh page is open, looking for something that it's not finding, then that could help explain some of that over-usage.

Anyway, I just wanted to mention this, as this is the only site that does this to me.

    Best of luck with everything!!

  15. Slides: for an unpitched slide: select the note->ctrl+u->set the ending fret->scroll your mousewheel to extend the slide just like you would a sustain.

For a pitched slide do the same, but instead of ctrl+u you press ctrl+up arrow or down arrow (depending on the direction of the slide)

There were a few fast 2-fret slides in the song that you hadn't added any length to, so they appear as a wierd little line. Easily fixed though.

Thanks, Deratio. That helps a lot! :)

Yeah, I knew I had to edit some of those slides still. Just forgot to do it. It's my age-addled brain exposing me again (eh, who am I kidding, other substances have aided in that over the years too). hahaha....

  16. K I just played it, and it plays great! There were a few runs in there that sounded like shit, but I'm pretty much positive that it was down to my playing. This is one of those Beatles songs like And Your Bird Can Sing that is going to take me months to pull up to 97%+. It' never the songs by them that I expect to be the hard ones. Like Obla-di Obla-da - omfg that's a tricky song to pull off right.

Thanks for this, man, this'll give me something to chew on :)

Glad you enjoyed it, Deratio. It is a heck'uva fun song to play. Especially on bass. :)

Once I re-Tab those incorrect fills that were in the GP Bass tab, and look at the Guitar Outro section, as I recall needing to re-tab some of that too (I just did a copy and paste there to fill in what was missing), then I'll post the updated version probably. Oh yeah, I need to figure out how to add slides by hand in EoF today too. There's that one slide up the bass does in the Outro I never was able to tab correctly, because I couldn't figure out how to add the slide in EoF. So I just left it as a sustain until I could learn how to do it. haha...

But thank you very much for comments. Hopefully I'll get this thing the way I want it soon. I want to start on another. hahaha... :)

  17. Without a doubt, Prog Rock is by far my favorite style of music to listen to. Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Rush, Kansas, ELP, etc...  are among my very favorites. I also enjoy some more modern Prog outfits Like Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Aeryon, and especially Steven Wilson's solo stuff.

I tend to enjoy what I call Melodic Prog, similar to what was developed in the late 60's, through the 70's, and early 80's. I am not as big a fan of Prog Metal, like Dream Theater, etc... that became more popular in the late 80's and 90's. Though I do occasionally listen to it.

I also like a lot of what is now called Classic Rock, as it's what I grew up listening to. I also like the Blues, and am also a pretty big fan of Jazz Blues, and Fusion Jazz, and jazz in general.

  18. I've actually been working on this but gave up since no bass tabs are near correct as you've seen (I'm really anal about my McCartney basslines).  Plus I couldn't find a decent tone for the lead guitar.  I'm with Mad_Duck on this, the clean tone works well here, I like the sound of it, but it seems to need some overdrive or a little fuzz on it..  I wish I could explain but I couldn't figure the biting tone out myself. Also I think the lead was charted wrong in the outro (another reason I sort of gave up on it, something just sounded off).  I did get the vocals done with the banter at the end (where McCartney says "don't look at me man, I only have ten children") if you want to incorporate it into your custom, here is the ,XML for the vocals, it should match up with a little tweaking.

You're more than welcome to it, if it helps.I have several of these songs that are kicking my ###.  I'd love to see this one finished.

Thanks, I'll download that, and check it out. Much appreciated.

I'm hoping to find time to try and fix that Bass Tab that was included in the GP file today. We'll see how lucky I get. haha...

In any case, thanks for taking the time to comment. It is appreciated. Hopefully I can find some time to play through some of your Beatles CDLC too. There's a lot of great songs there that you posted here earlier today. hehe... :)

  19. I use DR Black Beauties on my two fretted 6 string basses, and also on my Variax 705. I have used RotoSound SwingBass 66's on my Stingray since I bought it in 1980. My 6 string fretless has LaBella black tapewound strings on it.

  20. I use 4" Italia Leather straps for my basses and guitars. I have a bunch in different color combos. Though I mostly use only two or three of them, as I have Dunlop Straplocks on all my basses, except the Stingray, so I usually use the same strap I've used for years when I grab a bass to play. The 'Ray has it's own, Black 4" strap. :)
