  1. Atreides Ghola, Completed Customs and Works in Progress

I'm not as prolific as everyone else here; don't have as much time, and probably work at a slower pace.  I had a set of customs I was working on, but considering that I've managed to finally get a good Jackson Browne sheet music book, I'm going to be working on the following:

    Jackson Browne - Boulevard
Jackson Browne - Running on Empty
    Jackson Browne - Somebody's Baby
    Jackson Browne - The Pretender

    Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic
Steely Dan - Don't Take Me Alive

Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (Studio, official transcription.  Much different than the one already posted)
Black Sabbath - Lonely is the Word

John Mellencamp - Ain't Even Done with the Night
    John Mellencamp - I Need a Lover

.38 Special - Caught Up in You
.38 Special - If I'd Been the One

Red is the one I'm currently working on, teal are the ones I have planned.  Any that are completed will be green, with a link to the record page.

  4. Crossbolt, sorry you feel that way man.  Thanks especially for your Skid Row customs and Billy Joel's "Big Shot".

I don't chart that much...I have 13 customs up.  The first few I did, I was really very open to feedback and fixing things perceived as 'wrong' with my work.  Well, it didn't take long until I was done with that...in my experience, most people who complain heavily about how a custom is charted are also people who don't make any themselves, don't donate to the site, and just complain to complain.  The final straw as far as correcting customs came when I put up Diary of a Madman, and people went apeshit because the Lead arrangement was too sparse for them (I eventually allowed someone to merge the Lead and Rhythm tracks, and my original is still better).  I explained in that thread why I do customs in the first place, and basically told the complaining folks that if they didn't like the arrangement, they were free not to play it.

For myself, I think my customs are decent, and I try very hard to make them well enough on 'first pass' that anyone who learns the song well could play it well with other people and practice outside of Rocksmith. I generally tab them out in GP from the officially published transcription instead of finding something on the internet, or tabbing out the way I play them with my band (which is why more than half of what I've done don't have bass lines). They don't need to be perfect...most of us aren't studio or touring musicians.  My advice...f**k the critics.  If they don't like your work, they're free to leave it alone, make their own, or learn to play the song the old fashioned way...with blank sheet music, a copy of the song, a pencil, an instrument, and a good ear.

  5. I actually didn't think much about the complexity of the bends before this.

As I've said, I generally make my own gpx tabs, convert them to gp5, and use those, and I've put in complex bends before (Don't Talk to Strangers was one of the first).  I never gave it too much thought since they transferred without a problem previously.  There are just so many on the same notes in this song that I finally ran into an existing problem without realizing it even existed in the first place.

I'm going to try my hand at cleaning these up this weekend to see how it goes.  Thanks everyone for all the help and advice.

  6. The main problems I encounter with tech notes are lots of them squashed together at the start of the bend and tech notes which affect the succeeding note (which may or may not need tech).

I've done a couple of customs recently with highly complex bends (like up/down/up/down/up kind of bends) and on GP import this can result in maybe 10-20 tech notes being squashed together at the start of the bend.  Maybe there's just a limit to how many the game can handle, and AtreidesGhola's song breached that limit.

Also, EoF now tries to import tech notes at the end of complex bends (where appropriate).  These can actually land on the head of the succeeding note (possibly a chord that is not defined as a bend).  It's also possible that a bend tech <> 0 was on the head of the chord, and I've never seen the game do a pre-bend chord.

So, when you look at this song before the tech notes are taken out, this is exactly what you get in the beginning solo, and throughout the rest of the song, because of the highly complex bends.

I'm going over Berneer's tutorial on tech notes; I'd like to get those complex bends back into the song.

  7. Here's what Cozy1 had to say about it when he took a closer look.

Just confirmed that the lock up is definitely caused by bad (multiple) BendValues on same note.  When I manually removed multiple BendValues in Xml the song plays fine.  Also I am seeing BendValues in the Xml associated with Chords which I didn't even know was possible.

Maybe you could share with raynebc your experience.  Like I said, I can not tell if it is GPA or EOF issue without more information.

If something can be done to avoid this in the future, I'll gladly give troubleshooting it a shot.

  8. Okay, well...I've done all of this now and it's still crashing.

I have no idea what the problem might be; it must have something to do with the tab file that I'm bringing in from GP6, because if I import any other tab, the song starts up just fine.

Thanks for the help...If you think of anything else to try, I'd be grateful.

Until then, looks like I'm going to have generate a tab by hand for this monstrous song.  So many complex bends.

  9. @@MadMaxx Thanks, I'll give that a shot, too.

@PC Plum I actually never imported the sections from the tab, and made my own for the song.  It's pretty complex, and I wanted folks to be able to isolate all the little fills and riffs.  I did try the song with no sections, and it still crashes.

Normally, I tab out all of these either from the sheet music or by ear.  This one I chose to use an already done tab for because it was just such an excellent job.

If anyone is interested, here's the tab I used:

    http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/s/steely_dan/dont_take_me_alive_guitar_pro.htm

  10. So, I've been working on making Don't Take Me Alive, by Steely Dan.

Every time I've generated a version of the song, it crashes right after tuning.  I've redone the song several different times with different source mp3's, redone Wwise, etc.

In my frustration, I generated a version of the song using a tab for another song that I had made in Guitar Pro...the tab I was originally using I had found on Ultimate Guitar Tabs.  Wen I loaded up the version with the bogus tab chart, the song started fine (though of course with the wrong tab).

What could be causing the song to crash the game to the desktop vis a vis the tab I was using?  I can go ahead and tab out the song myself from the sheet music, but that will be extremely time consuming.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

  12. Several years ago, I had a right arm injury that prevented me from playing for a couple of years. When I was finally able to return to playing, I found that the nerve damage to my arm and wrist prevented me from holding picks well, so I moved to Herco thumb picks.

    Then, I found this:

    http://www.guitarworld.com/files/imagecache/featured-node/Screen%20Shot%202014-04-07%20at%201.54.17%20PM.png

It's a really elegant solution for anyone who might have physical difficulties with their pick hand.

    Here it is in action:

One thing it does allow is an effortless switch between fingerpicking and flatpicking.

  13. Gibson quality control is horrible lately. I bought a standard and had to go through 3 of them before I got one that didn't require a luthier on a brand new 2500 dollar guitar.  Honestly, if you want a Made in USA guitar buy a USA Strat.  If you want a new short scale, "Les Paul", buy the epiphone right now, if Gibson wakes up and starts producing real instruments again I will buy another.  Usually I would say buy the Gibson but not with the crap they are releasing to the public these days.

The other option here is buying a used Gibson, I think that 88 to 93 were some of the best most consistent instruments they've made in recent times.

I've purchased a Gibson SGJ and a Gibson Les Paul Classic and a Studio this year.  No problems with any of the guitars.  The Studio is long gone in a trade, the Classic is one of the best guitars I've ever owned, and the SGJ is a bare-bones, very nicely made instrument.

  14. Not crazy at all.  I replaced the pickups in one of my American Standard Strats to HSH: Dimarzio DP103 in the neck, Fat 50s middle, and DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge...now it's got the same electronics as Dave Murray's (Iron Maiden) '57/'64 Frankenstrat.

  15. I have 7:

    American Standard Stratocaster

    Fender Standard Stratocaster

FSR American Standard Rustic Ash Telecaster

    2014 Gibson SGJ

    2014 Gibson Les Paul Studio

    Standard Stratacoustic

    Taylor 110e

    Washburne EA940

And now 8.  I just picked up a 2004 Mexican Standard Stratocaster.  I'm having Fat 50's put in it now, and am adding a DiMarzio DP103 to my American Standard (already have a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge).  When it's done, it'll have the same electrics as Maiden's Dave Murray.

  16. You Built a Studio! Nice gear.

I have a 2014 Studio, too, and love it, to play.  The only thing I really dislike about it is that it has the quick connect electronics.  Currently a very limited selection of pickups with this feature.  Your best bet for replacing the pickups is to gut the original electronics and replace them, which affects the long-term value of the instrument.  If you're not going to be performing live with it, the 490's in it are more than adequate, though, and I love playing mine.

  17. I've never played a Samick guitar before...so I can't speak to the quality.  But if you're talking $320 USD, then for just a little less you can get a Squier Standard Tele, or for a little more a Squier Custom Vibe 50's Tele; both have Duncan Designed pickups.  The CV is an especially nice guitar for the money.

  18. I generally play Ibanez , and my main is a Satch model axe but since it dont handle low tunings well my wife got me this as a early Birthday present.

This beast handles eveything i can throw at it tuning wise and just pure awesome to play.

The Zakk Wylde Epi is a nice guitar...I played a couple of them in Sam Ash...it was down to that or the Studio.
