  1. Doesn't bother me a bit. Actually, when I quote, I often remove all but one or two lines that make the point and show what I am responding to. I have other locations where I can post "protected" messages, if I cared that much about saying something, but on here, if someone wants to modify a message ... knock yourself out.
  2. Ok, here is my attempt at a bass notes template. Like I said previously, for some reason, in the 24 fret mode, the inlay doesn't display all of the images, and crops the upper and lower parts of some frets. Look at the image below at the top of the first 3 frets and the bottom of the 4th, 5th and 6th frets. The image is square and should display to the edge of the frets, but it does not. https://copy.com/Tpd1gsHzalILv2Ub (images won't display - don't know why, but here are the links) So, I moved the position of the note names in those areas so they would display. As you can see from the image below, the F and G notes on the E string are off center, but the color matches the string, so it's not too bad. The B and C notes on the G string are also a little off. It is a little messy, but I think it is still usable. I am posting the template for anyone that wants to use it. https://copy.com/30glAw4pIdA8tEER The template file is: https://copy.com/mEcAeLoDBaKGUMsK I also created a template that starts on the 3rd fret and all of the notes are lined up better, but again, this templates only lists the whole notes: https://copy.com/mx8uGkOqxUpKghzM
  3. Oh, in that case, then not really. For some reason, the fret inlays don't display the upper images in the first couple of frets. The tutorial mentions this, and I just tried it myself a couple of days ago. I am working on a template that works better, but it might only work for the D and G strings in the first couple of frets. I am also only listing the whole notes (no sharps or flats) in mine because I find that including all notes is too busy and hard to read. Anyway, I will share mine when it is ready, but a couple of notes might be missing.
  4. Yes. Use the search feature to search all Forums for the words "bass inlay". Select the topic "Note on fretboard" (same topic name as this one, but no space) and that topic includes a link to a bass template.
  5. No, there is no difficulty setting in the CDLC. The difficulty comes from the note density. RS should be able to set each new song to a simpler level, but it doesn't always do it.
  6. Yeah, things don't always work "quite" as they intended in RS. I always have to increase the difficulty on my new CDLC's.
  7. It has been a long time since I started playing, but I thought that RS took a sample of your playing when you first started and gauged your ability at that time and started songs at about the correct level. If you played the intro really well, then RS thinks you are a skilled player. But the system also often gets it wrong. I don't think you can force RS to a specific level, but when you first play a song, you can set the level you want, and it will remember that. So when a song starts, press the space bar. Then make sure the entire song is highlighted by pressing "0" and "9" until the entire song is highlighted. Then use the arrow keys to highlight "Set Difficulty" and set it down to 0. Then the next time you start that song it will start at about the same level. You can also set "Level Up" to on and set the number of iterations you need to play flawlessly before it increases the level. I know, it sucks that it can't start every song at the same level. I think that is one of the main complaints about RS. But you can set each song that you play. I hope that helps.
  8. Wow. A very thorough answer with excellent examples. Thank-you for all that work. Just to recap for the original question, customs creators CAN ADD note names with a lot of extra work (right now without automation) but there is no feature to turn this on for already-existing CDLC or DLC. That said, we do have other educational CDLC with finger exercises. Maybe we could add the note names to those files to help learn the note names. Again, thanks for the detailed answer.
  9. I wish there was! I too am a bass player and have looked for that feature, but RS does not give you chords or chord charts for bass. The best you can do is search the internet for a chord chart for the song and keep that beside you as you play - just keep in mind that the arrangements might be slightly different. IMO, the best way to learn the notes on the bass is not with RS. Just play all of the whole notes on the E string (you can get a note map by doing a quick internet search) and say the note out loud as you play it. Don't play any sharps or flats - just the whole notes. Do that every day for a week. Then switch to the A string and do the same thing. After a month, you will know all the notes on your bass - you will even know the sharps/flats because they are between the other notes. I know it's not as fun as playing your favorite song, but do both to keep the fun going, and it won't take long to learn the notes. I hope that helps.
  10. Silly question, but have you taken any lessons with a professional guitar teacher? If not, then I suggest you do. RS is great for learning, but it can't really teach you proper hand techniques. There are some great suggestions in this thread for you, but we can't see what you are doing. The best way to learn is to use RS and a professional teacher for at least a few lessons to get the proper techniques down. Also, after consulting a teacher, you should visit a doctor and have that hand looked at. It might be something to do with some kind of damage to your hand, or your playing technique might be damaging your hand, and our advice won't help much if that is the case. If you are causing damage and don't have it looked at, it could turn into a permanent issue. Good luck!!
  11. Yes, it looks that way. The first few files I checked had it, but as I checked more files, I found that some do not, including the most recent song that I just packaged myself. It's possible that an older version of the toolkit had that "feature" and it is now gone. So ... not really an option either.
  12. I just opened the a file with Notepad. I had Word Wrap checked, but otherwise didn't do anything else. Here is a screen print. http://i.imgur.com/LAGbqjJ.jpg
  13. I like the idea of using the feature in the tool. I just updated my toolkit to include my name in my songs (didn't even know it was there, and haven't looked at the properties page since I set it up when I started charting). Also, I opened a psarc in Notepad and the name is in clear text, so you can see the name just by viewing the file. I would prefer to have a tool that allowed us to sort/filter by the name in the file and maybe move all files from the same developer to a different folder. Hopefully one of the new tools will have that feature. If we put the name in the lyrics, notes or popups, then there is no common format and it is unlikely that a tool would ever be able to sort/filter on it. By using the field that already exists in the toolkit, we can at least build tools that can use it. The big problem as others pointed out, is getting all charters to add their name to their songs. I am starting, so at least there is one more...
  14. Thanks for the tip! I figured there was a way, but never found it. That will save a little tedious transcribing.
  15. Cabinets/amps are only part of the tone. They will only give you a clean sound for the guitar. You have to figure out what set to use for the base sound, then add "pedal" effects to refine the tone to the sound you want. Don't try to match the real cabinets and amps that they use in real life - it probably won't work. You need to go based on the sound, and not the look. Just try different combinations until you get a sound that is close. Metal sounds usually use a combination of Distortion, Overdrive and Chorus or Reverb in addition to the cabinets. You also have to figure out if the original song uses more treble, mid-range or bass because most songs use a different amount of equalizer. But start with the major effects first like Distortion, etc and get the rough sound close before you try to fine-tune it with equalizers. Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, and you probably know this, but I'll state it again anyway. The way to build tones for your CDLC is to use RS, not the toolkit. First, go into Rocksmith and go into the tone generator. Select your cabinets/amps first and then add the effects, one at a time and set the settings for each to get your tone closer to the sound you want. When your tone is the way you want it, write down each of the different effects, cabinet and amp and all the parameters for each. Then go into the toolkit and create a new tone and add all of the effects and set all of the parameters to exactly what you used in RS. It is much easier to try the sounds in Rocksmith and fine-tune the tone and get it right than it is to just guess and repackage in the toolkit every time you make a change. Creating tones takes lots of time and LOTS of experimenting. If you really want to match tones, it is not likely something that you will do in a matter of minutes. I hope that helps. Good luck!
