  1. Hey guys/gals,

I was going through the rules and am not sure if this is allowed. If this is not, my apologies and I will never do it again.

I tried following the steps of the installation on my Mac, however, I did more harm than good, causing me to have to  re-download RS2014. Anyways, I'm not very competent in these initial start-up/ installation processes, therefore I am offering $50.00 US dollars via PayPal, to anyone who will take the time to video chat with me and walk me through the process (what to download, how to install, and how to convert, maybe how to create my own CDLC's)

Note: I currently work in Malaysia, so time zones  may be a bit off. PM me if anyone is interested

    Thanks in advance,

    Rams

You dont have to pay anyone anything aha, Theres alot of tutorials on how to do it. Ill PM you the programs you need but just watch the tutorials and you should be fine!

  2. Master can't be activated via the Riff Repeater sadly but you can still look away from your screen/close your eyes to have the same effect. The screen is only a support to read but if your goal is to memorized, then the more you rely on your reading instead of your memory the harder it will get.

A good test is to go over the Score Attack mode and get to the master difficulty there, it can be a great way to see where your memory fails you as you'll quickly see on which section you had a tougher time.

It's not because you have a screen that you have to stare at it all the time like a zombie. Even in songs i go through for the first few times i try to avoid watching too much when i get the feel of the pattern i have to play. i might end with some misses because i missed the transition but i worked something else which is memory and the attention to the track in the background too that will alert you for upcoming changes.

Hearing is very underrated but it's goddamn important if you wanna play along a backing track or with a band. You're never alone and being able to concentrate on something else than you is harder than it seems too and you will notice detail in the song that the RS chart might not convey very well too.

when it comes to me learning a song like this

i cant really play score attack because how fast the song simply is at the start. hence why i would slow it down in riff repeater and work my way up (this is just the way i do it) but ive never actually tried score attack with this song.

  3. Well you already said it, there's no secret for memorization. Repetition is the only way you gonna remember something.

One thing though is that you can help yourself recall where transition happens via lyrics or drum fills for example to avoid counting in your head how many times you should or have played something.

And of course knowing which pattern are repeated (chorus, verse, etc..), even the scale used in the solo makes things easier  and allow for more room to fool around if you want to.

Thats when master mode is a great thing but i learn songs in sections and cant xseem to figure out how to get master mode to work in DDC on only one section. I feel like if i could get master mode to work like that learning would be alot simpler as it would be playing the notes by memory somewhat instead of staring at the notes while playing.

  4. How do you guys go about learning new songs? Like the majority of the time id just sit there and keep repeating the same song, Play it for around an hour a day each day until it sticks to my head, While also slowing down some songs that are pretty difficult and going up speeds as i can play it. But how do you guys learn songs?

  5. Bugera is Behringer, should be OK. They're not too good or too bad, depends on the model. Most people associate Behringer with some products that were really crap for their time... nowadays they do have a wider portfolio of products ranging from big mixers to even a digital piano.

For the cab, since you're buying from Guitar Center, you can get something like this:

    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Egnater/Tourmaster-Series-412A-or-412B-280W-4x12-Guitar-Speaker-Cabinet.gc

It doesn't come with England made Celestions but the Chinese ones tend to be bit more burned in so that's bit of an advantage if it counts...

Dunlop should be good for the pedals without breaking the budget. But there are lots of other options as well, some, better than it obviously.

Alright so i feel like we have a decision, Other than that i just have to worry about pedals. I appreciate everyones help who commented on this post.

  6. Lets try and get this thread back on track.

A high school student wants to build a rig for approx USD$1500 that will work for a gig with upto 1500 people - that he has to save up for months to be able to afford - try to keep that in mind.

First off - well done lad - hope the show goes well, regardless on what gear you end up using - you are much braver than I ever was at 17!

An important question really is - what sound system does the venue have? Is there a PA system that you can hook into to provide the volume? Since that question alone can radically alter what gear is appropriate for use. Do they have mics for micing cabs? A competent sound person to help you get the best sound from the combination of your gear and the venue's equipment?

I'm not going to touch the Valve/tube head vs modellers conversation. Both have their uses and places - and one very well may be the better option in your circumstance - depending on the answers to the above questions.

Perhaps I missed it, but I didn't notice the OP suggesting the kinds of music they will be playing?

I'm not going to suggest XYZ equipment over others, because quite frankly, I don't have the experience to say X is better than Y.

What I would suggest however, is the OP spending a few hours reviewing the "Andertons Sound Like X without busting the bank" videos. Given the budget for those vids includes the guitar - and presumably the OP doesn't need to factor that in, you could potentially come across a really good (for you) rig in those vids. Nothing will replace being able to sit down and try gear yourself, but maybe those vids can help you narrow down a few options before you step into a music store. - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQXro2VDjyIxdCSplV_Zk4qQbbZc2qTCU

Since its a school rock concert they play everything from pop songs to ozzy, to lynyrd. But in all honesty i was honestly looking at this tube amp.

    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/bugera-1960-infinium-150w-classic-hi-gain-tube-guitar-amp-head

Theres plenty of mixed reviews saying that the amp company is shit, while the majority of the reviews say that its a pretty badass amp overall, This just leaves me with finding a cabinet and getting a couple of pedals.

Now for the sound system of the venue (Which is the schools performing arts center which is still pretty big) I know they have a PA system, But i didnt play in the concert last year because i was still new to the school, But i went and watched and it seemed like they had the other instruments were louder than the two guitars (violins). The only real time i heard the guitar when i watched was during the guitar solos or when they played an acoustic song.

Also i know they have a designated area in the performing center for sound, Im not sure what exactly goes on there but im sure they do something with the guitars.

I think i covered everything you asked.

  7.

I was just honestly thinking about upping my budget to get the peavey 6505 and probably a matching cab and some pedals, Im just going to ask work to give me more hours (Which im not sure if they would do but its worth a try) But im pretty sure thats a damn good amp.

Yes, the 6505 (and the 5150) are certainly way superior choices to the Spider, some don't like them due to some quality bits, but they're decent amps. Just make sure it's not used too much, as those are aged amps.

@@Puddle Of Mudd I'm curious to know how you qualify a good sounding amp. Could you give me some precise information on how you judge it without playing it?

Info on the Internet? You don't have to play something to qualify it is good. Take the Bogner XTC for example, that's a sick amp. Why should I need to play something that has everything one can ask for out of an amp?

You don't drive a Ferrari to know it's fast. You know it's fast from the ground up, it's common sense and some thinking...

Please explain "Aged", Should i only use the amp for gigging then?

Edit: on a second thought aswell, Ive also looked at some Orange amps that seemed to be nice

  8. If I'm not wrong, from what I just looked up, the combo comes with Koch speakers. They ain't gonna sound as good as a well regarded in past cab such as the Marshall 1960, and the comments there are pretty silly to be fair. One guy is comparing it to a transistor amp and says even that gets better tones... and then comparisons of it to Chinese Peavey amps... this is an NL made amp, it doesn't come with Chinese made transformers etc, likely. Besides, the clean did sound nice and that camera is crap, and I'm unsure on his guitar either.

Looking on the spec sheet, the Koch is pretty much similar to a Fender SuperSonic 60 head, which is one of my amps. I mean, two 6L6 tubes, some 12AX7s etc etc. Really, it's in an entirely different league than the Spider, and if you compared the Spider to say X or Y good tube amp, it WILL perform like crap.

Doesn't have to be Koch, it's just what I came across on Reverb at that moment. Hell I didn't even know much about Koch amps until that point, but if you go read some written reviews on Sweetwater and such, people say it's a really good amp head. I can look for something with a more well known brand name to it, and still, you can seriously do better than a Line 6 Spider for a 1500 people concert.

I was just honestly thinking about upping my budget to get the peavey 6505 and probably a matching cab and some pedals, Im just going to ask work to give me more hours (Which im not sure if they would do but its worth a try) But im pretty sure thats a damn good amp.

  9. You could go cheaper with bit lower end gear, while being around the price level of the Line 6 couple and still have it miles ahead of anything Line 6, like with this combo:

    https://reverb.com/item/1271317-2014-koch-multitone-50-watt-amplifier-head-sku-4333

    https://reverb.com/item/2498771-marshall-1960a-lead-4x12-guitar-speaker-cabinet-awesome-used-cab

I made my way to guitar center and actually tried the spider iv and it seemed pretty decent, definitely got loud but i wasnt too much of a fan of the metal channel (yet i only played it for a bit) but the cleans and the twang sound pretty good. I tried looking up a video of the amp you showed but all i found was a video of the combo in which it got alot of hate on the sound so im not completely sure, But heres the video.

  10. Line 6 amps are generally awful. I once bought a PRS Torero, which came with a free Line 6 Spider IV 15W and it was utter junk. Tone was trash and it just did not get any better in any way. However, I've a few times played a Line 6 that was designed with the help of Reinhold Bogner, which was good for what it was. Even that was made in China though. All Line 6 amps are like that, low to mid end at best, and really, for a 1500 people concert, the last thing I'd do would be going on stage with a crappy amp that doesn't even have any tubes on it. I wouldn't expect much from that cab either, as I don't know what speakers it uses to reach that 320W. Just looking at wattage levels of crappy transistor based gear is mistakenly buying gear at best, JFYI.

Like firekorn mentioned, you'll have whatever gear you have on stage mic'd, so you won't actually need those kind of wattages even for that much people. Now, for what I'd suggest, you would need to up your budget, and it would seriously be worth it. If so, then you can get an amp like this:

    https://reverb.com/item/2170446-mesa-boogie-express-5-50-all-tube-guitar-amp-head

Then I'd couple it with a cab that has Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in it. Those are the speakers you might want for solid tone on the higher gain levels, and especially for, again, a 1500 people concert. However, not every V30 is made in Britain with Celestion's highest quality standards. Most are Chinese made. For that, I'd look for some cab that has British V30s in it and go no less than 2x12. Such as this one:

    https://reverb.com/item/1603819-bogner-2-2x12-guitar-cabinet-closed-back-2010-black-tweed

The cab above also seems to be bit oversized for a 2x12, which would be better off. Bogner is one of the best for these things so you can't go wrong with it AS LONG AS it is the 8 ohm one. It needs to be 8 ohms in order to be British. 16 ohm V30s are made in China.

Im a 17 year old kid that works 2 days a week and has to pay car insurance and shit by himself, But i appreciate the answer and ive actually always wanted to try a mesa, Like i said before ill have to get into a guitar center soon and try these out. But there is probably no way i could make 2000 dollars by the time this concert comes up to get the amp head, cabs and pedals.

  11. The place should have PA and a monitoring system on stage (i seriously hope), in that kind of situation you don't really need anything (maybe a TRS to XLR but even that shouldn't be necessary if the place is decently equiped).

The thing with an amp is that you will need to mic it up too which doesn't really make it easier if you have no idea how the place will be setup at all... 1500 people is a fucking big place and you won't power it up with an 150W amp alone anyway, it will only serve as a monitor for people on stage.

So you will be better checking out as many amp as you can (even some decent multi effect pedal or setting up a pedal board) to find out what kind of sound you like. There's probably some other Line 6 amp in a guitar center to gives you a decent idea of what it might sounds like too.

    Alright thanks for the help

  12. @@DeadlyPower Have you been able to listen to it/playing with one? If not, you should probably not buy it before making sure you like what it sounds like.

Line 6 amp aren't bad but many people tend to not appreciate the sound it produce so you would be better going at your local guitar shop with your guitar and try amp there first before making an investement in gear.

Thanks for the feedback, Ill be sure to visit guitar center tomorrow but im not sure if they will have the amp there. Im honestly just looking for a rig because i have a rock concert in a few months at my school that i play guitar in with 1 other person and its a pretty massive place to play and we play in front of atleast 1500 people, And by the time the concert comes up i will only have around 1300-1400 saved up to get the set up, So if you could give me any tips off what i just said id really appreciate it.

  13. I have the Amplifi 150 and although there is some convenience  to using premade tones, I personally  would prefer dialing in my own tones. I find the interface somewhat confusing too much give me pedals and a marshall half and I'm happy .

I know this don't answer your ? just wanted to put my input on line 6.

i do appreciate the input, anyone else able to give me some insight?

  14. Hey guys i was wondering if anyone had any experience with the line 6 spider iv amps, I was looking to buy the 150 watt head with the matching 4x12 320 watt cab and the foot pedal but i kept finding mixed reviews about it (even though the majority were still somewhat good) but id rather come here and ask you guys about the amp.

  15. I think it would be nice if we actually had a dedicated area for lessons to make them easy to find.  Once I get a mic, I've been considering doing a lesson for bass for the 24 combinations of 4.  It would be nice if the individual notes could be labeled like chords are, but it seems that RS doesn't agree with me on that.

    Thats true.

  16. Havent really read through this post and what anyone has said but since the other post died out, Im going to come back and post more DLC that i believe are very helpful (After i make them of course) So if anyone has some nice exercises that should be made into a dlc, PM me. Thanks.

  17. It mainly depends on the copyright holder.  When I tried to upload the vid I posted a while back of my terrible attempt to play Suicide Solution, Youtube wouldn't allow the audio because of the copyright claim that the production company already has on file with Youtube.  You can also file a dispute on the claim to get rid of the strike, usually if you can make them believe that the video is for educational purposes they'll let you keep it up.

I tried this, Saying that i only use it to help teach people songs and im not making money off it but they just pushed me off haha.
