  1. I have a Line 6 UX2 that I use, which came with Gearbox software (simulates pedals, cabinets and speakers) that I route my guitar and mic through into my computer. I also have a DX21 FM Synth that I use for not much more than a MIDI input device, and an Alesis QX25 which has far better programmable controllers and programmable key velocity for recording into my DAW software. The weakest link in my system is the audio output from all this. I hate it, but my neighbors love it. One day I'm going to put it through about 500 watts so I can hear the reverb from the woods behind my house. But, to really answer the question you asked - I don't make videos, just music. That's a whole other skill set I'm not into sharpening at this point.
  2. I agree. I think this song is in RS solely for someone like me, so I can brag that I have it up to 86%. The song seemed easy to learn, but hard to play, due to the rapid chord strumming. There's only like 4 power chords in the song. The next 'lower difficulty' songs were quite a bit more difficult. In fact, I wonder if I'll ever be able to see the notes coming, find the positions, put my fingers there, and strum before they've gone by. It seems the thing that works best for me is slowing the song down, learning it, and then playing it back, already knowing the song. Maybe that's what you're supposed to do, and I'm just being too hard on myself??
  3. One thing about the white type on black background I've noticed (and maybe it's MY age, too), is you can look away at a blank wall and still read the type that's burned into your retina! You have to be careful when you print, too, lest you use up all your toner/ink cartridge. Usually the print function will correct for that, but not so much so when you do screen shots.
  4. It's hard to express gratitude repetitively without sounding ingenuous. So, be that as it may, I appreciate all your work and your efforts to perpetuate the best of what Smithy's Anvil was when I first encountered it, and express my support and hopes for a long, happy future here. Even though this has NOTHING to do with this site, I wanted to offer my worthless observations of the internet: You cannot make everyone happy, no matter how hard you try.If you try to make everyone happy, you only succeed in pissing everyone off.You cannot have a picnic without ants and flies. If you respond to a troll or flamer's post, then you have given them the one thing their mother wouldn't - attention. It's easier to break a window than build a house. If you build it, someone will find fault in it.If you have something people want, it is priceless, especially when it's free.Your opinion, along with a nickel, is worth a little less than two cents! Keep on keeping on!
  5. Oddly, I picked one early on, and then tried to change it, and had the same result. Then I noticed today it had updated. May be part of the site changes, or caching in your browser? I've seen that do really weird things until I deleted temp internet files, cookies, and even the crumbs. You might try that.
  6. I sometimes go into calibration, and try to trick RS into thinking my guitar is not loud enough. I don't really know if that helps or not, though. I also have a hard time with pressing the strings down too hard, changing the note. I especially have a hard time with Ducks Redux. It often won't recognize a note I know is correct. 7. I guess ads make you pay either way. ;)
  8. Steven Wilson - Porcupine Tree - "Waiting". Fell in love immediately. Only got better the more of his work I listened to. The others I grew up with are all either in, or headed for, the Old Folks Home. Hmmm... I guess that's means I am, too, I have to say, I am SO glad I started listening to Pandora. That's where I discovered Buckethead, Satriani, Hypnogaja, The Pineapple Thief, etc. it's like meeting a psychic who knows all the bands you would like just by finding out a few songs you like. I'm impressed with the Music Genome Project.
  9. Possibly due to the ads? There are a few websites that I frequent that just refuse to load sometimes. My browser task bar will say "waiting for blah, blah, doubleclickads, blah". I sometimes have to refresh it a few times to make it load. I don't seem to have any issues here, though. I'm almost always using Chrome. The spinner will flutter a bit, on and off, but stops after a few seconds. There's a lot of stuff going on when a web page loads that you never see. Most modern sites are designed to get the experience ahead of the work so the "visitor" doesn't run away to another site.
  10. "Dark Side of the Moon". But extremely close behind is "Tales from Topographic Oceans", "Close to the Edge" and "Signify". This is like asking me to pick my favorite child!
  11. Prog Rock is just about all I listen to. And a little Shoe Gazer.
  12. Sorry, Dave. Didn't mean to imply you had to. Only wanted those who were donating and wanted the Donator bling to be aware they needed to let the receiver have a way to know who they were. Thanks for the donation!
  13. I've only been playing since Christmas 2013, too. I started out mostly in Learn a Song, but after getting 86% in Blitzkrieg Bop, and bogging down in some of the other 'easier' songs, I've drifted more toward Session Mode, GuitarCade and Lessons. I really need to learn scales, but I don't particularly like Scale Warriors. But, I persist. Session Mode 50% (learning scales) GuitarCade 20% Learn A Song 20% Lessons 5% Tone Designer 4% The rest... 1%
  14. I didn't see it mentioned, and it probably goes without saying, but I'll say it... It's a good idea to put a note in your donation advising Unleashed your username on the site. If not, they'll be depending on you using the same email address on PayPal as you use here, or some other way to identify you from your donation and user profile.
  15. I'm hearing this a lot, and find I end up doing that, too. I play a song, thinking I'm getting better, only to find out I've been playing a watered down version. Then RS will suggest Riff Repeater to get my skill level up. Why not just start there, and learn the song straight up?? I have to believe it's a psychological technique of the game to keep new players from getting totally frustrated and chucking the game. At least what you suggest is a good enough workaround, and probably they figured out we would figure that out, too, after a while.
  16. Thanks for the composium. Distributed information is critical at times like this.
  17. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for anyone who puts forth the effort to bring great music a little closer to the people who appreciate it. Everything I listen to and like, I have probably purchased multiple times, through albums, CD's, and iTunes. And I seriously doubt anyone is downloading CDLC to pirate the music onto their iPods or sell it to some schlub who could get it for free. My point is, if someone's gone to the trouble to create CDLC, and they no longer have it linked on another site, I'd think they'd have enough pride in their efforts to get it posted here. The clock is ticking, and eventually UbiSoft will likely create DLC to match any popular CDLC that gets created. I'll probably end up buying the songs I like yet another way, through yet another medium!
  18. Krosen - I believe that's basically the difference between the SE and S2. I was looking at them online (too lazy to drive 25 miles to the nearest GC), and looked up some Youtube video reviews of them, and essentially, it comes down to where they are made, and the colors. Ever since I found out how much Steven Wilson loves the PRS's, I've wanted one. I'm playing my son's Ibanez SA260FM right now with RS, but I want my own guitar, and I guarantee you it WON'T have a tremolo bridge/whammy bar. I can't imagine what sadist ever thought that was a good idea! Just about time I get the strings broken in and stable with the tremolo bridge, it's time for new strings.
  19. I have to agree. As I posted elsewhere, to have to deal with what's come down the pipe so far - in just a few days - is enough to make most people tremble in fear. Hang in there, birthing pains are rough, but they fade in the light of what you are creating.
  20. Any site is only as big as the people who make up it's community. This site will be what we make it, by the people who compose it. An idea is always bigger than the people who conceive it, and I think we'll see things beyond what might have been imagined elsewhere. :geek:
  21. Rick - where are you seeing this? I was wondering where this came from? If it's from this site, I wouldn't be surprised right now at anything you might see. This site has popped like corn in a microwave, probably beyond the host's ability to serve it!
  22. Unleashed - It's plain to see the storm that's fallen on you guys. I've done some web design and hosting, and I know what can come down on you, especially with a successful site. It's incredible that in less than a week, this site has gone from non-existent to a major bandwidth mammoth. And the victim of a major denial of service attack already! I know you guys have already started asking yourselves if you've bitten off more than you can chew. I hope you're up to it. There's a lot of people out here who love you for what you've done. Please look beyond the hassles and heartache, and know you're appreciated! Let us know what we can do to help, if you need it!
  23. Gotta try this one out. I remember when this song was popular telling myself, if I could ever play this song, I could consider myself a 'real guitar player'. No excuses now. Thanks for posting!
  24. I saw this software start popping up in online ads recently, and looked into it. Seems pretty sweet. It's amazing what software can do now. It reminds me of some of the features of auto-tune software that will allow you to use analog input in music production software, and then go back and alter the notes in the analog files to correct wrong notes or alter the start and stop points if you play notes too soon or too late. I saw that it will also allow you to isolate the guitar parts in a song, and even remove the guitar from the song so you can play along as the guitar. What I really like about the current state of the art software is that you can create and produce high-quality music even if you're not the greatest instrument player. As it is now, I can write stuff I can't play. That was the primary reason I got Rocksmith, so I could actually learn to play the stuff I can type into a piano roll, and not have it play back with a cheesy guitar synth.. My birthday's coming up soon... I may start dropping hints about Riffstation. After you've played around with it for a bit, how about a nice review? Pro's and con's, coolest features, etc. I know their marketing video was pretty good, but I'd like an independent review from someone who actually bought it and has used it.
  25. This subject really interests me. I was thinking of creating some CDLC to practice scales. I really like session mode, and Scale Warriors is pretty good, but there's got to be some middle ground in there to fill that gap with some CDLC. I wonder if there's a way, maybe like Riff Repeater, where you could change the key of the scales? Ah, just thinking out loud. Really looking forward to the development of this section!
