  1. This one is supposed to fit: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/gator-gwe-elec-hardshell-electric-guitar-case Or, email these guys and ask which case they sell with the guitar. http://lightspeedmusicstore.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=190
  2. Replacing pickups is no big deal, Very few artists use the stock pickups anyway. It's an easy job to replace them. :D
  3. The dbz BARRX-R1 would be the best bet for the game. My unblocked Floyds are great guitars but awkward for the multiple tunings of the game. As far as brand new vs / used, makes no difference. Just be sure to get it setup if need be.
  4. I like that they are "Rocksmith Compatible" lol. Lots of reviewers have said they broke the high E just stringing up with those neon coated strings, so I haven't really tried them myself. They have went down in price in the last year though. They were as much as 20 bucks a set a while back. Still contemplating buying a set though. Maybe if I see them on sale for $4 or so. Cloudsong it sounds like your friend is one of those "Broken string, sold AS-IS for parts" kinda guys. :D
  5. According to the Samash site, those guitars are on closeout. They are probably introducing a new model of it soon. I got a neck-through BC Rich mocking bird stupid cheap at Guitar Center once for the same reason.
  6. If you don't wanna deal with it I'll pay the shipping to use it for parts :D I broke lots of stuff as an angry teenager. It happens.....
  7. I have the cdlc working with my xbox but I cant seem to get the custom inlays working.
  8. Yeah I've always been torn between actives and passives. I like the BITE of actives but for some things passives just work better. I may have found my next experiment with Kent Armstrongs M-Buckers,, but that will be for a later day. I have one in a Mahogany guitar with maple top. I wired it to a 3 way switch to go between out of phase, just 2 coils, then all 4 coils. You get some pretty good tones out of the first 2 settings, but, with it fully on it just sounds sorta muddy. I backed the pickup height down a little cause the magnets of 2 pickups together like that seems to affect the strings a little oddly. I can't really explain it, you'd have to try it out for yourself to hear what I mean. It definitely has its own uniqueness about it. :D
  9. Toothpicks and super glue. :D
  10. No need to worry at all about tone, it's not like you're chopping off half the neck or anything its only about a 1/32" or 1/16" hole roughly 1/8" deep if I recall. Remember to measure twice drill once. Put some tape on the drill bit and don't go past it. I agree with taking to someone else if it seems too stressful to you to attempt. Remember it's just wood and way more stuff on a guitar gets professionally repaired with super glue and toothpicks than you think. :D
  11. I'm starting to like passives with the PA-2 booster circuit. You get the "Earthy" sound of passive but with the EMG boosted output.
  12. The no cable patch works ok for the PC but it's not perfect. Ebay and Amazon were the only places I could find just the cable by itself. I finally bought a used copy of the original Rocksmith to get a cable. Have you tried finding someone on Ebay/Amazon that will ship to your country?
  13. Yea, he's got that 1000 yard stare for sure! haha
  14. the D-tunas are about 38$ on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVH-D-TUNA-Drop-Tuner-Floyd-Rose-BLACK-dtuna-NEW-/271443365433?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3f33490e39
  15. If it is a fender style you should be able to remove the strings and have a friend CAREFULLY bend the neck just enough to release tension and you can unscrew the nut all the way off with some needle nose pliers (or something similar) and get a replacement one online. Have you tried American sized allen keys? Sometimes it isn't a 4mm but a 3/16 or 7/32 even. 4mm and 5/32 are virtually identical so sometimes one strips out the other.
  16. Hey I've downloaded at least 150 CDLC's from here! Donated :D
  17. Sounds like your frets are uneven and your pickups are to far away from the strings. Normally a fret level / crown job and a setup would put you back in business. However, that poor little guitar just isn't worth it. http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Used-USED-SCHECTER-DIAMOND-SERIES-OMEN-6-BROWN-110026996-i3684519.gc Not a bad deal here and If the pickups aren't to your liking you can always order a budget aftermarket set from guitarheads.net or similar. Most of the used GC guitars have setups done to them when they take them in. I'm a vet myself so just jumping in the car and heading more than 10 or so miles down the road or to 5 or 6 guitar stores in a day is a bit of a process for me as well, I understand that for sure. Used is the way to go for sure. The majority of mine were bought used. Good way to get a nice instrument for (most of the time) half off the original price! Also, Craigslist :D http://stlouis.craigslist.org/msg/4398705079.html
  18. Most of the Schecter guitars I've had my hands on were really nice compared to others in the same price range. I can't really say anything bad about them. :D
  19. I like the tuning system in bandfuse. Also, the music videos playing while you play along was really cool but I didn't like the points scoring system. I was excited about Zakk Wylde and Alexi Laiho but none of it was really lessons just more of the same stuff you see in interviews all over YouTube and the fan sites. It also had to much noticeable delay between the guitar and the sounds coming out of the Xbox even with the Component cable setup. The lessons kinda made me feel stupid. "This is called a 'string'." "This is called a 'pick'." It did, however, had some heavier tunes from bands like FFDP and Children of Bodom. Rocksmith seems to be missing that kinda stuff. Not counting CDLC of course. But, I'm a sucker for Overlord by Black Label Society and probably played it 10 or 15 times before putting the game neatly back into the box.
  20. All the PRS guitars (not SE) are made with the same wood, on the same CNC machines and assembled, painted, setup, etc. by the same factory workers. So if you were blind folded and handed a $1600 one or a $3600 one you wouldn't really be able to tell much difference. That said, different models have different pickups and wiring setups but 20 mins with a soldering iron and you can put whatever you want in a guitar. :D I however, really dig that semi hollow PRS SE (Custom?) I must say they have really come up in quality in the last 4 or 5 years. But I'm trying to sell sell sell my guitars down to less than 10 so my wife and I can buy a house. My goal for my next build is a semi hollow telecaster with maple body, redwood top, purple heart neck and maple fretboard. I love the way a single coil size humbucker sounds in the bridge of a tele. Something about the way it's slanted gives it such a mean tone.
  21. Seems to me so far your intonation has to be really close to perfect or you get a lot of misses on chords. Also, try tuning just before the songs you have the most trouble on as that will help the tone recognition work less hard to understand what's going on. Keep in mind the game is just interpreting electric signals turned into 1's and 0's so while it sound fine to you and me the computer is just being a computer.
  22. I'm not 100% sure what that measurement is on the block. I assume it is the height of the block so you can use the Floyd Rose with thinner or thicker guitars respectively. Think SG vs Les Paul. As for the material, Brass seems to be the best choice. It is what most artists have on their customs. Although Phil Collen from Def Leppard Uses an all titanium bridge on his custom guitars. As for the Nut width, 6, 7, and 9 are for the "Speed Loader" system that's virtually phased out by now since only one company makes the special strings required. 2, 3, 4, 8 and 10 are what you're looking at based on your fretboard radius of 10, 12 or 15 degrees. Some other factors come into play such as what your planed distance from E to e is, what type fret wire you will be using as the height of the slots will have to be higher to compensate etc. All in all it's not quite as complicated as it sounds it just takes a little math here and there and good old fashioned trial and error plus a little guess work never hurt. Here is a chart for the nut measurements: http://www.wdmusic.com/media/floyd_rose_chart.html As far as the bridge block, my BC Rich Gunslinger has a 46.8mm thick body and a 36.9mm tall block if that helps you out at all. Biggest thing is patients, measure twice cut once, etc. etc. here is one of my beasties: http://www.roberto-venn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Hays1.jpg
  23. Don't be afraid to adjust the bridge. Learning to setup and repair your own guitars is like learning to air up your own car tires. Check out youtube videos of doing setups for similar guitars to yours. Trust me, turning a few screws here and there won't destroy your guitar. At the end of the day it's just wood, metal and some fancy screws. Every guitar play should own these 2 things: http://www.harborfreight.com/6-inch-stainless-steel-pocket-ruler-93684.html http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Player-Repair-Guide-3rd/dp/0879309210/ref=la_B001KIQIES_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1396464107&sr=1-1 However, if your guitar is REALLY bad, Take it to a tech for a setup and ask if you can watch. Its usually nothing more than 40$ and though it seems like a lot of money it's worth it. I grew up learning guitar not knowing any better but high action and badly setup guitars will do more harm than good. Even now as a full blown guitar builder I still catch myself pushing down the strings way to hard just from muscle memory.
  24. I agree with Liquidlizar a used guitar is the way to go for sure. If you're in the US, pawn shops are really good. I got a BC Rich Gunslinger Retro for $160. Those retail new for $350 at Samash / Guitar Center. Personally I've never been Impressed by an Ibanez. Out of the 25 or 30 so guitars I own none are Ibanez. However, I have learned over the years that buying a guitar is more of a hands-on process. You should head out to a music store and try as many in your price range as possible. See what you like the feel of. Then head to Craigslist or Ebay / Amazon and look for a deal on one. My advice is, don't buy a guitar with a Floyd Rose. They aren't meant to be tuned up and down like Rocksmith requires and just generally an all around pain in the ass for new guitar players. The Fender style bridges are less temperamental so they're OK. I like the $129 Squire Fat Strats as a starter. With a good setup they are really great for the money. All that said, Again I agree with Liquidzar, Your first guitar won't be the best. If you can find a friend to go with you that plays that would give you a leg up. Just play as many as possible in your price range and welcome to the never ending battle with your new guitar buying addiction. :D
  25. This is the archive from the old site. Not sure if I'm supposed to post a link but maybe it should be stickied or something I seen this question asked a lot. http://www.rscustom.net/dlc
