  1. I think you only have to change the tuning in bass with EOF

    The standard tuning is:

    Bass = E1 A1 D2 G2

    Ukulele = G4 C4 E4 A4

You have to calculate the difference between strings of Bass to strings of Ukulele for tuning

I think for Bass tuning is:

    E1 to G4 = + 39

    A1 to C4 = + 25

    D2 to E4 = + 22

    G2 to A4 = + 22

You have to find the correct tuning in bass for sound like ukulele

I tried this and it doesn't work, just FYI. The error is Error: Invalid tuning value (must be between -11 and 11)

Will have to try messing with the A440, in the toolkit, like I do for mandolin.

  2. I don't really play at all but my wife has a ukulele that she also doesn't play at all that I installed a pickup in so I was thinking about making a ukulele song.

I recently got an acoustic guitar also so I was thinking about doing Garfunkel and Oates' song The Loophole. The Bob's Burgers theme song would be good too.

Are you sure nobody's got a new songs on ukulele? I've done a couple on mandolin actually.

  3.

Guitar makers, man...... one of these days some crazy person is gonna be like "Let's make a guitar with TWELVE STRINGS!!! That'll be sooooo extreme!!!"

Fender has already made a commercially available 12-string acoustic guitar for only $449

Check out this guy playing the Game of Thrones theme on it:

I was being sarcastic, LOL. I am aware of the existence of Stairway to Heaven (and Hotel California). :P Cool vid though! That was super badass.

Now I wanna see a 14-string acoustic for doing Steve Vai & Korn unplugged!  B)

I just remembered, I actually used to own one of those cheapy Fender 12 acoustics. Great value for what you pay for them. Who needs a solid top when you have something that sounds that lush?

  4. I got it working again, as far as the game not showing the updates. That tip with CTRL and the mouse wheel was a huge help. I wish there was a doc somewhere that listed everything EOF can do.

I did notice in my capo customs, the game does show the actual fret numbers, not re-numbered relative to the capo......which is fine by me, now that I realize how hard it can be to ignore the dots.

  5. You can lower the fret values by one for selected notes by holding CTRL and scrolling down once on the mouse's scroll wheel.

Holy shit! I wish I knew that yesterday!

Is the problem that EOF reflects your changes, but the changes are not shown in-game?

    Yes! :)

  6. I'm having an issue with this, though there may be some EOF/Toolkit issues in the mix.

I'm working on a song where I transcribed all of it into EOF (by ear), with the capo on (1st fret, set in EOF as well), except for the guitar solo. I did the solo later, with the thinking "Oh, since it doesn't use any open strings, I can just leave the capo off". Which was fine, for learning it, but once it came time to write it down in EOF, I screwed up royally, and put down the actual fret numbers, rather than the numbers relative to the capo.

I tried to fix this by clicking N on the first note of the solo, subtracting 1, hitting apply, and then next....for every note of, like, an 8 bar solo.

Well, it looks like it might've maybe missed the apply button on the first few notes, because they're still showing the old values. The problem now is, I've tried to go back and fix it repeatedly, and (for those 3 notes at least) none of the changes are reflected in the chart.

I tried multiple times. I tried deleting the XML files from EOF, forcing it to regenerate them from the chart, and that didn't work either.

The OTHER problem is I kinda wish I had never messed with the fret numbers in the first place. Here's why. The solo all takes place between the (actual) 6th and 15th frets, which is pretty far from the capo. Knowing your position relative to the capo is all well and good when you're on the first 3 or 4 frets....but once you get high up on the neck, it becomes difficult (for me anyway) because I rely on the dots to know where I am, and seeing conflicting numbers in RS is confusing.

You can see the solo here, before the middle point of the song, I believe:

Here's the file if anyone wants to take a look:

I can't remember what I did on the other capo Hirakawachi song (with lead parts), Unmei no Mukou, and I can't go look because I'm not at home.

    Thoughts?

  7. Ahh i might have write this a little confusing.

I want to play this song with what Rocksmith have, get this tune from Rocksmith pedals/amps etc.

Myself i just cant get this tone out of my guitar, i believe it is because i am not good enough peddling with all the sliders on pedals and racks and stuff.

I pretty much just add something and listen, i am pretty bad with tuning stuff.

So i just wanted to know if someone is well experienced with tuning these stuff and have lots of time, i would highly appreciate is someone know and can tell me how to setup Rocksmith to get that same sound out of my guitar =)

To me it sounds like a pretty standard metal tone with a scooped mid-range. I think all the other odd sounds you hear below it are other instruments (keyboard lol).

Here are a couple of my CDLCs that have metal tones. You can just load the tone from Tone Designer under Authentic Tones, and play all you want with no accompaniment.  You can also save one (or a few of the tones, you get 3) into the Tone Slots. Then you can hit a number and switch the tone on, or toggle back and forth to compare, or to jam in Session Mode.

The first one is the "scratchiest" in the sense that if you palm mute, you get a nice bright whoomph whoomph from the pick attack.

Try these and see what happens, and if I said anything you don't understand, just let me know.

  8. It sounds to me like

    a. You aren't aware of how the tone slots work

    b. You've had the misfortune to download one of the many CDLCs with shitty or nonexistent tones.

When you save a tone, you want to select a tone slot number for it, which will allow you to hit a number key on your keyboard, after the song starts, to change to your chosen tone.

I spend a huge amount of time trying to get the tones in my CDLCs sounding as close to perfect as possible, and it drives me insane that so many people just download tabs off the net and slap them up as RS songs, with zero effort, craft, or love.

  9. Short of reinstalling Windows, which is insane :D, and should be avoided at all costs, IMHO.... (if it's Mac maybe it's not so bad?)

I would make sure you don't have a bunch of browser windows open, or apps running in the background. I use a program called Game Booster Beta 3.5 (avoid the later versions) which is supposed to stop unnecessary processes from running in the background, as well.

When I need stuff to run smoother, I crash Firefox (my browser of choice) with Task Manager, via End Process. That way, when I start it back up, it asks if I want to resume the previous session, and that way I don't lose the 50 million browser windows I have open.

Might also suggest running antivirus, anti-spyware, cleanup programs (like CCleaner), anything to avoid an OS reinstall, before you consider that step. Maybe a new sound card even?

I say this as someone who has followed the dreaded "Oh just reinstall Windows" advice and had it not actually help.

I've been running the same copy of Windows 7 for at least 4 years (no re-up since I joined Teh 'Forge), and through a system of doing judicious restore points before I install anything new, and restoring system whenever I discover the thing I just installed isn't something I'm going to keep using, I've been able to keep the same copy of Windows alive and well. I also make sure there's no crap starting up with Windows that I don't need. I also do regular backups to an identical HDD. It's kept in an enclosure that's only powered up when I'm backing up, and I clone the HDD, so if the original breaks, I can just slap the 2nd one in there. Seriously not trying to resintall OS here. LOL

    Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I should say, you SHOULD reinstall Windows every now and then, for optimum performance....I just don't LIKE to. On my recording computer/DAW, I have all my program installers socked away, and all my content on a separate drive, so then I could reinstall Windows every day, if need be. My personal PC is like the Wild fucking West, though.

  10. Hello,

SOmetimes when Im playing rocksmith, the game pauses or "rewinds" in the middle of the game.

Any idea why and how to fix it? Im playing it on Steam.

I tried to reproduce this behavior and couldn't. I thought maybe it was a stuck key on the keyboard, but I think I tried just about every one, with a song playing, and nada. The only time I can think of where the game "rewinds" is in Riff Repeater. Are you sure you weren't in there?

  11. Note that the PEQ or even some compression are something that i would add last just to go the extra mile in the tone but it shouldn't come before the actual amp/cab and pedal which will make the bulk of the work, playing with the amp EQ will already change incredibly how a tone sounds.

As for the PEQ in itself, i like the SOS article as it explain what feels right and what is dangerous to do with a PEQ while the other article tackle the technical aspect of what is and makes a PEQ which is probably a little less usefull.

A chart like this image though can be incredibly practical to adjust an EQ :

    http://s3.amazonaws.com/pbblogassets/uploads/2014/02/frequencyspectrum.jpg

For sure, it all starts with a great tone, that's exactly what I meant. The final effects are just to put the cherry on top and make a good tone perfect.

This is a great reference graphic, thanks! :)

I've done a bit of home recording (I know a tiny bit from that), so this graphic will come in handy!

Here's a goofy short joke song I recorded (30 seconds, more of a loop than a song, lol) 3 guitars, the final one with Ebow, and slap bass. I played the drums too, but on an e-kit, so I cleaned up my mistakes in the MIDI piano roll, lol:

Basically no EQ, ironically, other than what was on whatever Guitar Rig presets I was using (the envelope filter/wah sound was an actual pedal). :D

  12. One of the things I struggle with, while trying to match CDLC tones to a particular track, is EQ.

Sometimes, I hear how the guitar in the recording sounds, and I can get close, but I know that if I could EQ it just right, I could get it to sound perfect. The problem is, I know jack shit about EQ.

I know that you can boost and cut frequencies to achieve a certain sound, or accentuate a particular instrument (for example, when trying to simulate an acoustic guitar tone) but I don't have the music production or audiophile knowledge/experience to know what technique best suits each situation.

To me, it seems that the most "powerful" (corny word) tool in your effects arsenal is the Parametric EQ (followed closely by Compression). 9 times out of 10, chances are if you borrow a tone from an official Rocksmith track, you're going to find a Parametric EQ on there.

Back then, in such a case, I'd been afraid to tweak the PEQ (cos I'm tired of typing it) for fear of ruining whatever "magic" the RS devs bestowed upon the tone. Also, when making my own tones, I never used the PEQ, because I didn't know what settings to choose, and didn't want to do more harm than good.

I've become more willing to experiment, but I haven't done much proper research on the topic, until now.

I just wanted to share a few of the articles I've come across on the topic, and if I find more (or better) ones, I'll post them.

  13.

I had a "billiant" idea of making a video with the audio preview for all 50 L'Arc songs (51, The Rain Leaves a Scar is a WIP, lol), so I'm editing that into the original post above. Hopefully it's useful to someone.

Oh and iminashi's Kasou is in there too, even though I didn't make it. I didn't want to be a dick and skip over it...lol but I did omit the other two that I didn't make...

  14. I finally finished #50, My Heart Draws a Dream, which, as I mentioned in the release notes, is @raynebc's favorite L'Arc song. ;)

For the uninitiated, this would probably fall into the mellow/heartfelt category, though not a ballad, at 132bpm. It's got some singing, sweet, fat leads that are fun and easy to play, with lots of long sustained notes and vibrato.

Some Edge/U2 style delay on other parts, and and tremolo effect at one point.

No solo in this one, so it's good if your fingers are solo shy, though I wouldn't say it's the easiest L'Arc song either (the lead guitars bits are pretty easy, of course).

    :D

  15. Some of my favorites are:

Driver's High (Probably my most played CDLC. I was always under the impression that the one made by Anchang-Style was made by you  :P )

Lies and Truth (The arrangement is amazing)

    Fate

Lover Boy (I'll try to make a playthrough video at some point)

And anything from the Dune album.

I liked Anchang-Style's version ok, but I had already started mine when I found out his existed, and when I figured out he's probably not coming back, I figured I would go ahead and finish it, since the old one wasn't getting updated and had some issues (IMHO). I plan on doing my own version of Ready Steady Go too.

I was hoping Lies and Truth wouldn't seem too gimmicky with all the tone changes, but the song has so many great guitar bits, and I wanted to try to capture them all. It requires fast-ish hands (the trick with the delay/echo), but I think it really works with a little practice. I was really happy that everything basically worked out like I planned, tone-wise. The first time I tested it, I was kinda afraid all that work would end up being for nothing, LOL.
