  1. It's something to do with the cable. I taped the connector end to the wall right by the pc to where that part of the cable is horizontal to the floor. So those connector areas are hanging there with little pull on them. And the static went way down. There's still some when I first start playing but it fades gradually. Which sounds like a grounding issue. I'm moving in about a month and the next room won't have carpet so I'm hoping that helps it. I'm praying it isn't a bad cable. I've only had it 6 months and treated it like it's made of gold because I know I can't play without it. From researching this issue I've read a lot of stories about bad cables. Knowing my luck.....
  2. When I start playing it's really bad. It seems to subside the longer I play. It's only when I play the strings. I tried recalibration without my feet touching the carpet. Making sure the cord isn't touching the carpet. I taped the connector together so it doesn't get loose. Anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?
  3. DD allows you change the level of difficulty of each section in the song. Each section is represented by the square blocks at the top of the screen. If you have DD set to 20% on each section and get 100% of the notes right you have only mastered 20% of that song. If you bump up a section to 100% it will become purple. If all sections are 100%, you are playing the entire song. Songs with no DD are at 100% difficulty no matter what. Well ain't that a bummer. I had 4 songs at 100% that I thought I'd mastered. Bubble shattered  When I arrange my list by mastery it says 100%. I guess I should've moused-over the boxes below that. I've dl'd so many songs that I keep jumping around to try new ones and haven't paid much attention to anything else. Oh well, this gives me something fun to do this weekend. By god, I will master them for real now! :plus1:
  4. I'm still a noob and I tried several songs last night that weren't DD and I ended up very disappointed. If I see a song I like I get it whether it's DD or not because some of them I have been able to play without DD. But it's always humbling when I start a song and it's not DD and within about 5 seconds I know I can't play it. I basically just do "play a song" because I love that so much. Maybe I should explore more of the game I guess. I'm confused on the DD though. If I play a song on DD and get 100% that means it's the full song correct? No note skipping or anything? Reading the replies above have left me confused on what DD is actually doing.
  5. Yea, very shocking. He was playing concerts earlier this month so it's something out of the blue. I read he wasn't feeling well and the next thing you know he's gone. Purple Rain was a HUGE influence on me. Looks like 2016 is continuing its devastating effect on great musicians. And it's only April. Thanks for posting the Prince songs. I'm gonna go try Purple Rain and hope it doesn't make me cry like a baby.
  6. I was wondering about this also. Such a shame really. She posted a wide variety of songs and I downloaded a LOT of hers. I always look at who did the song, just out of respect for the fun their effort is gonna give me. Thanks for your contributions LaceyB. I personally benefited a ton. Thanks to all the people that do these songs for all of us.
  7. If you keep trying and are still getting too frustrated and thinking of quitting I would suggest trying the bass. I'm a bit older and had no previous experience with any instrument so decided to go bass. Plus I really love the sound of bass. It's much, much easier and you'll catch on really fast. Which motivates you to want to play more. Plus you'll develop finger coordination easier and you can then move on to guitar if you want to later. You can buy used basses for around $100 at Guitar Center and return it for any reason if you decide you don't like it. You can get on their website and view basses at all their stores in the US, and have it shipped if you want. I guarantee you'll like it though. Instead of getting frustrated you'll be making incredible gains very quickly. I've been playing 4 months now and absolutely love it.
  8. Doh! Boy do I feel dumb. Thanks a lot for the help.
  9. Getting static only when I play the strings. Read some fixes and one is recalibrating. But nowhere in any of the menu's can I find a way to do this. When I go to "tuner" it just gives all the tuning options. Rocksmith 2014, anybody know how to recalibrate?
  10. When I clicked on my news site it was just a big pic of him and "Rebel, Rebel" as the headline, and I gasped "OH NO!" I quickly scrolled down to see what I had feared. RIP. I'm going to be playing his songs tonight to honor him.
  11. Never mind. I found the post about the toolkit.
  12. I looked in FAQ's and did a search but couldn't find anything. I'm a new player and struggle without DD. Is there a way to add it that isn't too technical or difficult?
  13. I get that but I get it in my other hand where you have to pluck the string super-fast to keep up. I love rock and metal songs but I'm pretty new and struggle to keep up with them. Most of them, I find, are minimal fret movement but jackhammer plucking of the string. My forearm gets fatigued really fast doing that. Sometimes I'll try to pluck with the index finger and switch to my middle finger when that finger gets exhausted. But that often throws off my concentration and I end up missing notes and then struggle to catch up again. Do bass players do that? Switch fingers they pluck with? I don't know any of the basics about technique and such. I just love playing along to songs I like and that's all I do. Often when it calls for hitting lower strings I use my middle finger since it reaches farther. I started playing 6 weeks ago and bought a used Ibanez Mikro from Guitar Center. After a few weeks I returned it and went with a full size Dean Demonator because it looks like a rock and metal bass. Plus I have long arms and fairly large hands. One thing that bothered me about the Mikro is a lot of rock songs are tuned in Drop D. And when you do that on a smaller bass the E string gets very floppy and my inexperienced hand was finding it hard to pin it down on the fret when I was moving fast in a song. Plus you get less room for error with the smaller fret width. I do pretty good on songs that mostly hangout on the top two strings and between the 1 and 9 frets. Fortunately a lot of rock songs do this. If I have to jump down to the bottom two strings fast I usually get lost. And my ring finger and pinky finger are still pretty uncoordinated. But I've come a long way there, they were useless at first. I do know I've found something I love though. I've always loved music and it is a huge thrill to me to be able to play along to songs I've loved for decades.
  14. Just dl'd a bunch of their songs and gonna focus on them tonight. I really got obsessed with them about 4 years ago and made a Pandora channel after them. I listened a lot for about a year but haven't much since. I've tried a few already and as a noob (1 month) I really struggled with them. Hopefully one or two will be kind to me. Wish me luck!
  15. Well, the faster stuff kicked my arse. I got Creep and Plush pretty good. Thank you Scott for the great music. You will be missed but your music will live on through us.
  16. Sex Type Thing, the song I first heard from them, when it came out (yes I'm old), won't DL for me for the bass version. The other version is only lead. This makes me even sadder. :(
  17. Really sad. I'm going to dedicate the night to learning some STP songs.
  18. Just had this happen to me when I tried to reply to a post. It just disappeared. Thought maybe it had to be approved first or something. Trying this again to see if it posts. Hooray! It did. Shame the other one disappeared because it was fairly long and thought out.
