  1. @@Tom, I typically turn my back on the screen if I wanna play it without looking, its still possible to learn the song keep in mind once you knkw it its no different than piping your ipod into your amp and plugging along. To OP, use the search there are tons of greats in there. Just grabbed Warren Zevon the other day as well as Nancy Sinatra. Have much Hendrix from the Steam store. My CDLC runs from death metal Job for a cowboy, to lana del ray.
  2. Remembering songs is a no brainer, my songs that are over 100% were done usi.g Master Mode and Ive played them in the 100s of times. Ive played guitar decades, well tinkered, rs has taken what little Ive learned on my own and rocket launched it to a level I had not acheived in decades of playing. I cannot speed read the charts due to age and slower reflexes. My nephew who is 17 reads the charts, he cranks the diffity to 100 and attacks songs he can play and score 80% or better on his first playthrough. Amazes me. I usually do riff repeater and if I need more help I'll slow the riff to 85% speed, this way you are forced to accurately reproduce the notes displayed before progressing to the next speed level as well as more note difficulty. The momorization will naturally be there through wrote practice over and over again. Keep at it its well worth it. As far as bands go give rs a month or 2 for at least a solid hour a day and you should be at a point where you could hang with a band for a set or two. Practice the lessons as well. They will give you a solid foundation in the techniques used as well as help you to learn what the chart notations mean.
  3. Ran into an issue with another user here having an issue running rs and he nailed it down to Origin. If you habe any Origin games consider disabling Origin. Also ensure Admin rights when inputting the key, if its asking sounds like something may not have written properly.
  4. In addition to learning major scale patterns practice chromatic scales as well, they may seem easier for you to remember at first since its next finger next fret drop down a string and repeat. It helps build dexterity as well as finger strength. Also in your practicing no matter acoustic electric or what your playing focus on technique. If you feel you are missing something by using an acoustic with rs you really aren't if you can play one you can play the other. Playing acoustic first you will focus more on sound which is good, you will also not believe how good you'll sound playing wise when you switch from acoustic to electric. Many of the things you can't hide on acoustic you can hide playing electric.
  5. I have and still have the same issue as you. Played for 20+ years on/off mostly off, picked up RS a few months ago. The barrage still overwhelms me, I think at this point it's due to my age as I have no tolerance for gaming like I used to. Best advice stick with it, as with tabs the note barrage does eventually click.
  6. Yes, I have both RS and RS2014 on the same computer. I have the import tool so RS songs appear in RS2014, I can not play RS2014 songs in RS.
  7. There's snow? JK a snowman would rock, or snow guitar!
  8. For anyone following this, after a session on Teamspeak yesterday I think we've eliminated it being a driver issue.
  9. Keep in mind what you do could impact the latency, any processing done by a sound system other than passive speakers will increase the latency. Typically I run mine through headphones, it's plenty loud and I can play in my apartment any hour of day or night and not disturb my neighbors or family. The correct answer is as someone said, "try before you buy". What sounds best to you.
  10. You could try to recalibrate his guitar. Also I'd go into the RS options and set video options to very low, as well as disable dynamic venue. This will reduce video lag assuming it's what he's experiencing. You could also try running RS in windowed mode and see if that reduces his lag, or a lower resolution. Specs for his computer would help. Glad you got your issue resolved.
  11. Did you set the levels on the audio outputs and inputs? http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/802854-Rocksmith-2014-PC-Configuration-and-FAQ-Forums
  12. I've got it on Steam using Win 10 it runs fine, the error 51 has plagued many Steam games. For the record I'm an IT nerd by trade, last job was Network/Support Manager of a national finance company, worked for them for 20 years. RCB, if youd like to try more in depth and possibly a remote, PM me and I'll send you my name and cell number. Im convinced Windows updated and did a driver update and in doing so installed nVidia network access manager. Google "nvidia nam steam error 51" for more info.
  13. May be time to jtag That issue is troubling. Have you tried disabling your super antispyware?
  14. Double check Windows firewall is either disabled or Steam and Rocksmith are whitelisted. Try temporarily turning off Windows Defender.
  15. Have you tried plugging your computer into a different power outlet? Bad grounding can cause a buz or hum.
  16. Did you reinstall you Direct X dll? Posting from a phone but revisit the help section and make sure you put the DirectX dll back into the Rocksmith folder.
  17. Pinch pick between thumb and index, you still have a pick and 3 fingers to pluck with without releasing the pick.
  18. Yeah first thing I did on my Win 10 laptop disable telemetry and kill auto updates. I prefer to update things on my own. Have you been able to narrow down anything to where RS was last working? As a last resort you can try to uninstall Steam shutdown computer and reinstall Steam on start up. I hesitate to recommend as it can be a long process depending on how many games you have and it may not solve your issue. Does your motherboard have nVidia chipsets?
  19. If the instrument means much to you as mine do to me, a trip to a professional luthier may be in order.
  20. A musical representation of a copyrighted song is reproduced or indeed the song itself in CDLC and you are worried about copyrighted tabs? Now consider, that the song was originally written by the artist copyright owner, label produces it they typically get IP rights over signees. Point being Pro Tabs probably has rights over their interpretation of the song, so use it and listen to the track you have in your mind and try to get it closer to what you hear. In the end they will have to prove they are the copyright holder which in truth is more likely it's the labels or the artists.
  21. Well I can solve your floating pick issues. I've played for near 20 years and I'm by no means competent at it mostly playing on and off throughout the years. Recently after learning of RS and picking it up, I put two and two together after having pick slip. Try non skid tape. https://www.google.com/search?q=non+skid+tape&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjo08m0wfPJAhXIYyYKHUDqCR8Q_AUICCgC&biw=1200&bih=874 Place a small piece on either side of your pick and trim it to pick size with scissors. Pick slippage is far less likely. Leave lower 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch where pick contacts string clear of tape. Otherwise it's essentially sandpaper on your strings. As for noise I play using a laptop and headphones, I live in an apartment and my lease states "no musical instruments". The headphones allow me to hear what I'm doing no matter time of day and my family can't hear so I know neighbors can't hear either. I've never had doubt and never questioned why my playing wasn't progressing, I've always known it was me holding myself back. Too little time to practice, it hurt my hands/fingers, I sound like crap, I'm wasting my time. I ran through each of those, I had to ask why I'm learning what I wanted to do. If your goal was to impress people then failure may be in the cards as those that would be impressed and would want to know you because you play wouldn't be worth my time to know. In the end my playing is mine, it's something I do for me. At 18 my father gave me his guitar and I've had it my entire life now along with his classical I remember playing as a child. When I play I think of him. Though I'm no Steve Vai and doubt I'll ever be, I do enjoy playing. I'm at a wall with a few songs in RS currently and not progressing to where I think I should, I can play the songs and score well on master, but I can not 100% reproduce the song. This bothers me, yet I persist. Hold onto your gear, even if you pull it out once a month it'll always be there and your fingers will always know where they need to be. Few months ago I continued the tradition my father started with me. After my daughter turned 18 and mentioned in passing she always wanted to learn violin, I went and bought her one. Told her if she learns to play it fine, if she only picks it up every so often and plays it's still money well spent as it's something she'll have and hold onto her whole life.
  22. Did you browse this list, https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289 It lists software known to cause Steam Error 51 codes. I think the reason nothing is in Windows log is it's a Steam error, we just need to nail down what's causing it.
  23. I take it, that it's reproducible at any time and there are no scans happening on the computer? Use the last known good run of Rocksmith as a starting point, check in your Control Panel under Programs look for anything installed around the time it began to lag, possibly a Windows update package. If this produces nothing, do a file search for files modified around the time Rocksmith began running slow, make sure nothing slipped in. Following thread for resolution.
  24. I think I'm going to try the RS Championship, looks like fun and a good push in the right direction for advancing my abilities, or showing me where I need improvement.
