  1. i reached my goal! tried it more times but got worse after this run so i think ill take a break hopefully ill catch up to either luz or avas later tbh im starting to dig this song the more i play it cause it has a couple of riffs that reminded me other songs like there s one near the middleish that is similar to beast of harlot by avenged sevenfold or death to all but metal by steel panther. basicly 0 3 5 6 riffs ...love songs with them. and then the arpegiated chord at the end reminded me of a song called tearing me up by bob moses but its played higher in that song. really cool cause i had forgotten about that song and always wanted to learn it

  3. Thank you and a fantastic score! And I do understand that, that song kicks ass! A little improvement over my sightread. I just suck at the ending so I don't think with the time I have remaining this week I can do much better than this. Small improvement as well. I'm bad at the solo and some of the slides are a bit hit or miss.

  7. How to transcribe songs. Have a thing on how I transcribe songs, there used to be a few guides on this before but they’ve seemed to disappear over the years so here’s the tools I use and my general process. First off I’d recommend these to get you started. https://www.justinguitar.com/classes/transcribing https://www.justinguitar.com/classes/ear-training Giving these a read might also be helpful for the general info they provide on basic theory but you don't need to know too much to start out other than note durations, bpm and basic time signatures. https://static.guitar-pro.com/gp8/manual/Guitar-Pro-8-user-guide.pdf https://www.songsterr.com/blog/musical-note-durations/ https://www.songsterr.com/blog/time-signature-and-meter/ The best thing you can do is just to give it a try and get started. If you’re reading this, stop putting it off and get on with it. Find a song ya like, start jamming out and write down how to play it. I thought this process was more difficult than it was at first and put off learning this for a while but once you get started you can learn your favorite songs without waiting for others to tab them first and you can pretty much play any song you want (guitar or not). From there you’ll also be able to easily spot and fix errors in other peoples tabs allowing for your charts to generally be more accurate and in general you’ll start to listen to music differently and be able to notice more details you might've missed. I can’t be too specific with how to actually tab things since the programs differ a fair bit but in general you’ll loop + slow a section and then go note by note comparing what you’re playing against the audio until you get it to match. Then once you think you’ve got it right you write it down in your tab program of choice and double check it. Sometimes before starting on a song I’ll just loop the whole thing and improv to try to figure out some parts before starting to kinda get a feel for the song and get the scale down. It’s also just fun to jam out before starting the grind. When starting out use any references you can find to help you, other tabs, covers, live videos, midi files and sheet music can all come in handy when starting out. I used to only tab songs off other peoples covers at first for a good while. Tab software. Guitar Pro 8 is pretty nice since you can sync the tab to the audio in there and bypass eof at the transcription stage. From there you can bake the bpm changes into the tab, export a midi and import that into eof to get the beatmap. After that Ctrl + Z to clean up the tab, export as gp5 and then import that into eof. It's got some handy eq features but while it is lacking in comparison to transcribe overall it's pretty good. Tux guitar is fine too, but unless you use a specific build it doesn’t support slide out/ins or legato slides which can be a bit of a pain and I don’t like the interface. You can always fix these later in eof but it’s just extra work. If you wanna go old school there’s nothing wrong with using notepad and ASCII for starting out since you can always port it into guitar pro later or stick it straight into eof. Tonelib jam and gpa are a bit of a pain and aren't really designed for making tabs so I can't recommend them for actually writing stuff but might have other uses. Tuning. In most cases you’ll just have to pick between drop or standard tuning. Some artists will just use one or the other and you can use their other songs as a reference to kinda guess their tuning once you’re used to their style. If you can find a live video you can probably just use that as reference, it’s fairly easy to see if it’s in drop or standard by looking at how they play power chords on the lowest string. If you’re really stuck you can look at other peoples covers on youtube too, which I’d also recommend for starting out as they can give you a useful visual to work off without having to deal with the live camera moving constantly. Once you’ve figured out if it’s drop or standard you’ve gotta figure out the lowest note. Once you think you’ve got it listen to the whole song and double check. You don’t wanna have to re-tab the whole song halfway in. For non-guitar stuff you can pretty much use any tuning you feel works well since you aren't tied to artist accuracy for the tuning. For example, this song (tab) I had to use double drop D on a 7 string with the B tuned up to C because of the piano chords. Sure it'd be playable in B standard but a major pain in the ass and you'd never be able to make it sound good while actually playing it. In most cases for non-guitar stuff E or B standard will probably do fine but it all depends on the song. Feel free to experiment with open, capo or just mad tunings. Other useful software (probably windows only) EOF: You’ve probably already got this one but I like it for finding bpm. The estimate bpm feature works pretty well and for the few songs it doesn’t work on you can still use the beat markers/metronome to help figure it out manually. It’s also really handy for checking note durations/timings and its slow down audio feature is sometimes all I need to transcribe a song. Also the Alt + P, Alt + I hotkeys for phase cancellation and center isolation are pretty handy. Anthemscore: I can’t really recommend this one as it only really works for fairly simple piano/orchestral/acoustic stuff. Great for clean parts or if you get stuck on chords though. When it does work it really works well and you can pretty much just copy the notes from that into guitar pro and re-transcribe it from midi to a playable song. The beatmap/bpm it generates is always ass and you can’t export a decent midi but this allows you to fix the tab as you go along. The spectrogram is also fairly handy, but to me it's just a nice bonus and not used too much. For stuff like game/anime ost it’s pretty good though and a real help, you just need a pc with a decent amount of ram or to only use it on small sections that you get stuck on or it’ll complain. Songs like this’ll work fairly well, but it’s not too great for bass. https://youtu.be/mAjIfxbofkE https://youtu.be/zbTxOHUZtPU https://youtu.be/4_mr8Lz3LUg https://youtu.be/dHyEceHbivE https://youtu.be/tzv3vFFVfTg Transcribe: In most cases all I use to transcribe a song is this, EOF and guitar pro. It’s got a looping feature, a bunch of eq presets, pitch shifting options, slow down feature, panning and note/chord guess feature. There’s a few other features but these are the ones I mostly use. I’ll loop a section, use the note guess and work off there. If I’m doing bass I’ll eq out everything except the bass and go from there. You can do most of this in audacity too but this is way more convenient so I’d easily recommend this. Spleeter GUI: I use this since I couldn't figure out the standard spleeter cli. It's a neural network based audio splitter for separating audio tracks. The results aren’t too great and they take quite a while to generate but in some rare cases it’s better than eq. Since it takes so long to generate I barely ever use it but it might be handy in certain cases. Conclusion. So yea I guess that’s it, get out there and tab some stuff. Any other useful software or tips LMK.

  16. Last two days I spent a lot of hours adding suggestions from my personally collected CDLC to the spreadsheet. I went through my entire list of songs from Z to A. I ended up adding nearly 100 hand-picked songs. I added mostly 80s stuff as that is by far my favorite time period, however, I also have included some newer songs. I rated both Lead and Rhythm but I haven't rated bass yet. I don't play bass so I find it difficult to judge, but I will try to fill in the bass difficulty as well. If anyone disagrees with any of the bass difficulties of course feel free to adjust/add a note. I made sure all songs have DD enabled and that they all contain Lead, Rhythm, and of course bass as a path. This was quite an effort, but I want to contribute to this awesome community! Hope you enjoy it.

  19. Hello. I'm new to this forum, and I'm new to Rocksmith. I'm not good at playing musical instruments, but I'm a software programmer. I have created a program to convert midi to Rocksmith arrangements in XML. These files can be used by another program such as "Rocksmith 2014 DLC Builder" to create a psarc file. This program can create arrangements for any stringed instrument that has 4 or 6 strings. I have tried it with the violin, and the results have been satisfactory. This is the link to my project: https://gitlab.com/Alexander71229/miditorocksmithexport Soon I will be publishing two psarc files for violin so you can see the result it produces.

  20. Yes, I see now that I think this is just a named description for "default tone" which is very few or no filters and just the raw sound. I think the most common use case will be microphone to game, then turn off the mic in game so you don't get feedback. Acoustic instruments far outnumber electric. I was under the impression that some official DLC came out with an official sound that was "Violin". If I say how lame the songs I'm doing are, then you guys will stop helping me. I think (and it seems common) that most people who get into this project are newbies and probably coming from guitar or bass. I have a few "simple songs" that are recognizable and come with a synthesized backing track. I'm starting on these easier "toy examples"/"arrangements" so its more approachable and easier to play. Although the dynamic difficulty seems to working extremely well with these. Too bad I'm in the habit of turning every song difficulty all the way up. XD Once I feel comfortable, maybe I can work on or help someone with the crossover music. I'll probably pick up a very cheap violin (monoprice violin anyone?) to help test those arrangements as well. I'm starting from sheet music currently, so I'm living in a different world than most. I'll get back to rockin' soon enough.

  23. You double the core frequency then double it again. If the starting frequency is 440, cello would be 880 and violin is 1760. Don't emulate bass as you'll break strings while tuning. I did make an overview video a couple years ago. Setup, charting and tuning offset is all in there. https://youtu.be/lLEnhwi2cv0

  25. Hi. I just join you for this Rocksmith's Violin team. I play bass, guitar (beginer) and violin and use guitar pro since 2nd edition so I translated to violin any song but on an old hard drive and I think I lost most of them. But I hope I will have time to begin the work and give you any gifts. So I have to learn how to translate the .gp files to .psarc with violin part and other (cello and/or viola). If I found my gp files I am going to send Apocalytica songs: Toreador II, drive etc... or Metallica cover for cello and violin. Ok, no violin in Apocalytica but I love this band and I translated from cello note by note. Maybe I can found Vanessa Mae's music too and perhaps any classical. I can not promise :/ Thank you for your work and RS musics files. Sorry for my English, I am from France and you know, french with others languages... Start learning your vibrato ;) because I love that!

  26. Well if we cannot go beyond 12 semi-tones for tuning, then maybe a combination of yours and RockZot's ideas would be combined for some degree of success: Multiplayer + mutiple strings used for 1 octave. I guess you're point 4 is similar to what I am about to say. If we want 6 octaves then it is 2 strings per octave (since we're assuming 12 strings total due to multiplayer). That means if RS cannot accomodate multiple simultaneous notes on one string then since a chord is a triad of notes we'd need 3 octaves per string. So Player 1 (bass clef) gets 2 octaves, Octaves 2 and 3 and Player 2 gets octaves 4 and 5. Then when a chord comes along such as C4-E4-G4 (C Major) it will span the red-yellow-blue strings with the C4 being on the red string, E4 being on the yellow string and the G4 being on the blue string, all neatly placed in a nice Rocksmith chord box to hammer home visiually the the notes are simultaneous. Perhaps, Player 1 can play with a multiple/fraction of the 440Hz frequency to get the tuning within +/- 12. Low E string --> -28 -3 = -31 --> Change frequency to reduce the magnitude of this number A string --> -20 -3 = -23 --> Ditto D string --> -14 -3 = -17 --> Ditto Player 2 can play with A440 since those tunings are within +/-12 semi tones G string --> -7 -3 = -10 B string --> +1 -3 = -2 High e string --> -8 -3 = -+5 I'm still curious if I mod an XML manually if the Toolkit and the game will allow simultaneous mutliple notes on a string..... probably not. I guess I'm curious how you confirmed that the Real Tone Cable goes from B0 to E6 :) Perhaps I'll test in out in the the coming months if nobody has done it yet. Looking forward to trying Hallelujah on violin.... I think you said she's on violin.... I agree that it is probably just simpler to defer to another software. I must admit Sythesia is pretty cool and that video compels me more than ever to try it, especially at $30, but I have to admit that though their design is elegant I find it to crowded to try to capture the entire keyboard. That's why I am excited to get it to work in RS since we could divide into Octaves requiring 12 frets. Probably you are are correct that it would be shoe-horned and not elegant, but I would still enjoy see what we could do, especially since many fun pieces don't span more than 4 octaves. For now I have to go back to my Blaze custom.... it's already taken me too long to complete. :)

  27. So to my wife's delight I was eating supper at Pizza Hut with her and I was a conversational delight while envisioning in my head how Painosmith would operate. :) Here are a few thoughts regarding how we can try to go about using the piano in Rocksmith 2014. So given @@firekorn and @@RockZot there seems to be 3 interesting possibilities: 1. RockZot's clever idea of having the bass clef as one player and the treble clef as a 2nd player and then the microphone detecting both piano clefs being played by the player. 2. firekorn's idea of defining the two thickest strings as the bass clef and the two top strings as the treble clef 3. I wondered if we might as well not even consider getting the majority of the piano's 88-keys by using all six guitar strings in game as follows: e string, 3rd fret = C6 (C note of 6th concert pitch octave) ...... B6 (15th fret) B string, 3rd fret = C5 (C note of 6th concert pitch octave) ...... B5 (15th fret) G string, 3rd fret = C4 (C note of 6th concert pitch octave) ...... B4 (15th fret) D string, 3rd fret = C3 (C note of 6th concert pitch octave) ...... B3 (15th fret) A string, 3rd fret = C2 (C note of 6th concert pitch octave) ...... B2 (15th fret) E string, 3rd fret = C1 (C note of 6th concert pitch octave) ...... B1 (15th fret) We wouldn't used frets 0 to 2 since, those are custom inlay dead zones according to cozy1 upon which the inlay will not be able to show piano keys. Also we wouldn't need frets 15 and above since each octave (in western music) contains 12 notes in the chromatic scale (C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B ) I used one of the template inlays to create this inlay: http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomsForgeStuff/Pianosmith/Piano%20Inlay%201%20octave%20per%20guitar%20string_zpsn5wis4bk.png Sadly, in-game it doesn't align in my 1st attempt but I'll post the image anyway so you get the idea of what I'm envisioning: http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomsForgeStuff/Pianosmith/In-game%201st%20iteration%20of%20a%20piano%20inlay_zpsujfzpz0w.png Yes I'd have to optimize the transparency of the keys so that we could see the notes properly just before they cross the strings. As firekorn said, using a funky but appropriate tuning we could define each string such that the 3rd fret is the C note of the octave being represted on that string. GUITAR and BASS GUITAR are what are known as OCTAVE TRANSPOSING INSTRUMENTS. This means that the written note is an octave below the note that they sound. Example: To play middle C (C4) on a guitar play 1st fret of the B string. When reading piano, the C4 appears on the first ledger line below the staff. On guitar the 1st ledger line below the staff is C3. So to play guitar with piano music sheets requires to play guitar an octave above what the piano music sheet says to play. Here is my special tuning math, please verify my calculations: So let me do this in steps to get to the final tuning in EoF. Step 1: Tuning if Guitar were not an octave transposing instrument & assuming piano C notes are played at guitar fret 0 (open string) So E Standard Guitar Tuning is: E2-A2-D3-G3-B3-E4 Therefore, E2 to C1 =-16 (red string in Rocksmith) A2 to C2 = - 8 (yellow string in Rocksmith) D3 to C3 = -2 (blue string in Rocksmith) G3 to C4 = +5 (orange string in Rocksmith) B3 to C5 = +13 (green string in Rocksmith) E4 to C6 = +20 (purple string in Rocksmith) Step 2: Tuning if Guitar is transposed to concert pitch (piano notation), yet still assuming piano C notes are played at guitar fret 0 Consider from the above example that Guitar C4 to piano C4 = -12 semi-tones (aka half-steps), then: Guitar E2 to piano C1 =-16 -12= -28 (amount of semi-tones between E3 and C1) Guitar A2 to piano C2 = - 8-12= -20 (amount of semi-tones between A3 and C2) Guitar D3 to pianoC3 = -2-12= -14 (amount of semi-tones between D4 and C3) Guitar G3 to piano C4 = +5-12 = -7 (amount of semi-tones between G4 and C4) Guitar B3 to piano C5 = +13-12 = +1 (amount of semi-tones between B4 and C5) Guitar E4 to piano C6 = +20-12 = +8 (amount of semi-tones between E5 and C6) Step 3: Tuning if Guitar is transposed to concert pitch (piano notation) & Piano C notes are played at fret 3 Consider that for the 3rd fret to be considered an 0th fret due to the inlay deadzones in frets 1 and 2, we'd need to reduce the tuning from step 2 by 3 semi-tones. Therefore the final tuning that would render the 3rd fret to have a C note, from each respective octave on each Rocksmith string would require the following tuning: Low E string --> -28 -3 = -31 A string --> -20 -3 = -23 D string --> -14 -3 = -17 G string --> -7 -3 = -10 B string --> +1 -3 = -2 High e string --> -8 -3 = -+5 Issues to overcome: Will Rocksmith allow tunings so many semi-tones away from the standard? Core frequency in the Rocksmith toolkit for piano as described here is A440, right? Probably, since tuning above is relative to guitar tuning. However if RS doesn't like the big numbers, perhaps halving (not doubling is it?) the frequency to A220 will fall within a tuning RS will accept. FHP = 3 and Width =12 in order to keep in-game camera in a fixed place. Will Rocksmith (and EoF, and the Toolkit) allow multiple notes on one string in order to simulate piano chords. Example C Major being C4-E4-G4, in the case of the chord being played in the 4th octave. If it won't accept multiple simultaneous notes on the same string, then we'd be limited with only single note piano pieces, which is far less attractive. For a given Real Tone Cable gain, will a microphone transmit all octaves equally well to the game? What do you guys think? I can't really take the time in the next few months to develop this but if no one does it, I may try to make it work in the future at some time. Honestly, if anyone wants to develop on these ideas, I'd be more than happy to see it developed since I would take forever to get this off the ground and operational.

  32. Thanks very much for starting this project! I used to play violin at school and when I left school the 60s scene started and lots of people started playing guitar, so I stopped playing violin and began learning guitar. About ten years ago I had the urge to start playing violin again so went and bought an electric violin. Played for a few months and haven't touched it since When I saw your project it has encouraged me to start playing violin again. As I've posted several CDLCs for guitar and bass and watched your video about tuning etc. I think I'll be able to do some customs for violin. I've been working today on a violin part for Eleanor Rigby and I'm pleased with the results. Update - after playing this several times I decided to make this better by tweaking the chart. I've also done a playthrough video - download new version here - http://www.mediafire.com/download/rdr50mjrgb9c081/Beatles-The_Eleanor-Rigby_v1_p.psarc

So, I learned to play violin for 7 years and I can help you if you want. I share the knowledge freely as I have no rights to produce the content for profit, as Ubisoft owns the content. 40. As I mentioned to you earlier: amazing. I am attempting to get my violin set up like you did. Just experiencing some tuning issues. I PM'd ... you about it. I think you are the pioneer of a whole new movement: bass, cello, viola, violin, ukelele. Perhaps we don't even need to limit ourselves to string instruments. Maybe wind instruments are possible. Imagine playing Baker Street on the Saxophone in RS. As I have shown you I have gotten the acoustic guitar to work in RS. Plays with 100% accuracy!!! Here it is again. Remember I suck at guitar still so the misses are only due to my poor playmanship. Imagine even a harp. I swear I'd rent or buy a harp just to try that. The possibilities are endless! Imagine the piano! Woh, piano, that is huge!!! Once again brilliant work Daikano! I see a near future where there is a section on CF dedicated to "Other Instruments in Rocksmith". This is huge!
