  15. RocksmithToTab is a tool which automatically extracts tabs from your Rocksmith songs, including official DLC and CDLCs. When you feel overwhelmed by a song and riff repeater isn't enough to make sense of it, it sometimes helps to be able to look at the tablature. With this tool, you can. The output is stored in Guitar Pro format. If you do not own Guitar Pro 5/6, there are several free alternatives which can open gp5 and gpx files, including TuxGuitar (http://tuxguitar.com.ar, they finally released a new version yesterday!), MuseScore (https://musescore.org) and PowerTab 2 (https://github.com/powertab/powertabeditor). It's been one year and a half since I released the first version of RocksmithToTab. Today, I finally finished the milestone release v1.0. It features a number of bugfixes as well as usability improvements. For more information, please visit the website at http://www.rocksmithtotab.de. You can download the latest release over at FossHub: http://code.fosshub.com/RocksmithToTab/downloads/ If you find any bugs or problems with this version, please head over to the issue tracker at https://github.com/fholger/RocksmithToTab/issues. You can also post here, but it's easier for me to keep track of the problems if you report them in the tracker :) (Old thread: http://customsforge.com/topic/10411-rocksmith-to-guitar-pro-exporter-v099-released-now-with-mac-support-and-gui/)

Tuning is E-Standard (except for special situations, like 5string Bass) 3. 18. When playing some songs in Rocksmith, I was sometimes annoyed by the fact that some passages sometimes become unplayable due to weird tabbing. Sometimes this is done to reflect how the original guitar player plays the piece, but sometimes it is just the result of a bad transcription to tabs. This annoyance let me start on a project to create an algorithm which optimizes tabs based on certain properties (for instance, minimize the amount of position shifts). The project also serves as an experimenting ground where I try out various standard problem solving algorithms. I also used this project to try out the new JVM based language Kotlin. Currently, I managed to generate at least one useful tab for a part of a song (still in 5 minutes on an i5, so there's still room for improvement). Improved tab for the intro of Ferrum Aeternum by Ensiferum (thanks to Chlipouni for making the CDLC): https://gist.github.com/anonymous/997f8bcd8da95215423c Link to the project: https://bitbucket.org/hnhindriks/tabhelper Things I am going to work on: Short term: -Import arbitrary tabs -Support stretching of the left hand -Support more guitar techniques (for instance barre chords, two-finger tapped) -Create more useful tests Long(er) term: -Try out different optimization properties (for instance finger movement, or picking difficulty) -Frontend or commandline interface -Importing/exporting to CDLC Done: -Try out some simple genetic algorithms

  19. Hi, I recently tried to get access to my collection and upon searching for some help it (can't remember where) said that I could access my collection my hovering search and selection collection. Thing is, when I tried there's no hover menu on search. I tried this on both Mac OSX and Windows running the latest version of Chrome on both. I also inspected the markup and could see that the CREATORS hover menu is there in the (as a UL) which gets shown on hover but for SEARCH there's no associated UL. Was this intentionally removed, is it a browser compatibility issue? I just wanted to be able to browse my collection and re-download some of the songs I've added there. Cheers for the awesome tool and let me know if there's anything I can do to help debug this. --- update: It seems that the collection link is accessible in the hamburger menu (when using a smaller viewport).

  26. Hating the result of your own composition is a really common issue among artist (rare are those that really likes to listening back to their own song). Their is no tool to help you get idea and hard is to find tool to capture ideas when you have them making hard to capitalize on idea. The hardest thing is to fight to go forward and get to release point even if you aren't proud of the result it is important to get there cause you learn a lot of things that you can use in the next project that you would never get to if you don't finish what you started. FL can record live instrument, as many other DAW and midi song are real songs and it can be hard to differentiate midi instrument well made to real instrument (for exemple the drum part in that : http://customsforge.com/page/customsforge_rs_2014_cdlc.html/_/pc-enabled-rs-2014-cdlc/who-cares-r22126 is made with a midi instrument but without knowing it, good luck to find out). Also take breaks, your hear is a very lazy tool and get tired quickly making long run of mixing and mastering complicated. And start small, lowest amount of effect, small number of track will help you build something decent faster to avoid being bored out by the song. Finally set your expectation low, you won't sound as good as all the recordings you hear on radio everyday. Everybody started somewhere and it's never at the top!

Added a rhythm path which was on Lead Bonus before, same notes as lead but different fingering. It plays like a dream now, for me it's a perfect cdlc. love this one

  32. Audiosmith is a drag/drop GUI application for transcoding CDLC. Take a large CDLC file and make it smaller without significant loss of audio quality. Audiosmith can also be used to convert between other common audio formats ... even extract MP3 from videos. Click on the screenshot below to go to the Audiosmith homepage. Keep in mind that ODLC seem to be recorded at Audio Quality 4 ~ bitrate 128 kbps. Check the Log view for file comparison stats. There is also a mini audio player so you can hear before and after differences. If all CDLC are still taking long to load in the game then you might benefit from running CGT, Game Saves, Sync feature to remove songs from your user profile (game save) that are no longer in the dlc folder. Follow my signature link to download CGT.

  34. You can - it is not that hard - esp. if there are very accurate tab files out or even better already a guitar pro file it´s only a few hours even on first try until you have a playable version. As always perfection may take longer ;) - but there are excellent descriptions incl. videos and all needed tools, for example here, and if you decide to sit down and try you are at the exactly right place at the CS to be supported to death or rather till your song is perfect and on the SSL waiting to be RNGd ;)

I doubt that I hit 50%. Feel free to report this act of vandalism to the FreeBird Police, but I'll be long gone before they arrive and you can't fingerprint a steaming pile. :D

  36. I have a vive and I've been playing Rocksmith in VR desktop mode for about a week. Its an incredibly immersive and fun experience but it does have drawbacks. Not seeing frets is obviously the worst but if you are playing for fun and practice its a blast. I'm 400+ hours played and I'm playing mostly easy songs that I already know so I dont lose much and I enjoy the challenge or learning the frets without seeing them. Taking on and off the guitar and gear is a big pain as well, it requires coordinated and time consuming effort. But when you are playing in VR desktop mode it feels like you are playing in a movie theater with your game on the big screen. Everything is huge, you dont have to focus to see the crowd going wild and it feels like playing in front of a crowd. I am 36 and I feel like a kid again when I'm playing. If I get too close the walls (I set the perimeters) the game fades out and your blue boarders show up, its impossible to hit the wall with your guitar if you set your boarders. I am very sensitive to motion sickness and I do not get motion sick while playing Rocksmith in VR. I occasionally get some lag but its not very often and its doesnt last long. I am using a GTX 980ti.

  37. After a really long radio silence, I remembered I had created this project, and resumed work on it again. This project will certainly take a while, as I am still as busy as the past 6 months. I managed to implement a better performing version of my current algorithm (which shares some silmilarities with the A* algorithm), which is able to generate the 'optimal' tab for Ferrum Aeternum in 500ms instead of 6 seconds. I also took a course on machine learning, and I think I will drop the genetic algorithm component as I am certainly lacking training data (as mentioned by firekorn). Anyhow, the current algorithm is fast enough for most purposes. The areas I will focus on in the near future: -Implement a graphical interface to allow people other than me to use the software -Support more techniques: --Slides --HOPOs --Two-finger tapping?? -Redesign the internal mechanism for representing notes and applied playing techniques In the long run I have a wholly different heuristic in mind, where the algorithm tries to minimize the movement of all fingers. This will likely require time between notes to be taken into account. There are some sequences of notes which are easier to play than the current algorithm suggests (for instance HOPOs on a single string, such as Thunderstruck, without picking ofc), which means that the current heuristic is probably too simple.
