  2. Had three job interviews this week, so I've been busy prepping for those. Finally got a chance to crack into Metallica tonight, early results: http://s8.postimg.org/rewswhx39/metallica_harvester_of_sorrow_rhythm.png Good bit of room for improvement. Added a few more choices to the SSL as well tonight.

  5. MC rhythm update: http://i.imgur.com/pccTu4m.jpgNot a bad run, but I should be able to do better. Strike was from under the solo when shifting to the yellow string, as somehow my picking hand got lost and took a few measures to recover ! Feel like with more practice and if everything were to go smoothly I could get to 95% on this, but that's probably a bit optimistic given that I haven't yet solved detection on the drop power chords (though I think I'm doing a little better on them). None of the riffs on rhythm are ridiculously hard, but pretty much none of them (except like, the intro) are gimmes for me. MC lead: http://i.imgur.com/YlxCjQm.jpg So, parts of this are really hard. The pre-chorus is a bit too fast for me as or right now, playing the harmonies even higher up on the fretboard makes me even more uncomfortable, the chorus riff seems to require more shifting (and gets me confused since I know the chorus in rhythm better). And then there are the solos

  6. http://i.imgur.com/n7kRNtT.jpg Finally cracked into this one. Made sure to listen to it first so I knew exactly what I was getting into. Absolutely killer tune, really fun to play! :D Was surprised at how decently I managed to keep my balance for all seven minutes of these rather speedy and complex riffs.

  9. These scores with the travel bass are as good as, or better than the scores on the full scale bass, so I'll stop complaining about getting use to the sub-short scale. I do, however, reserve the right to make lame excuses about the mile-high action on the temporary bridge if I ever need to play above the 12th fret. Wicked Games - 100% Get Lucky - 98.8%

  10. I did a re-do of Daft Punk. I'm still quite unwell with this cold and instead of being euphoric from the stuffy head I'm now a miserable snot head so not as lively-a-performance as the last but a tad improved... still not happy with my bent plucky fingers :( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=573588146 I'll do another couple of go's of Metallica in a bit too.

  11. @groggy dont worry, I don't think the freebird police will be insanely jealous of and should punish you over care that you did that on that nice travel bass

  12. Why stop there? Well, I didn't. Daft Punk was the next.I decided to try the Alternate Bass track in honor of the alternate bass., but I couldn't notice a difference. I ended up with 97% but it felt like worse. I'll have to get used to the short scale length and put a thumb rest and some strap buttons on to hold the bass still. I'm going to sneak away now before the you-know-who get back.

  13. Pssst,,, hey,,, you, yeah, you. Do you think I should offend the Freebird Police again? I've been so good for so long. Well it's too late. I went and played this for its maiden song. What do you mean "wtf is it?"? It's a travel bass. It's headless to save space and improve balance and I put on the thickest four strings from a five string set so they don't flop around like an elephant's ear when tuned normally. The whole thing is only 30 inches long. It's like playing a guitar strung with the cables for a suspension bridge. Here they come - gotta go. Tell them that I went the other way.

  14. This is a huge genre, so I'll be sure to miss some bands. To start with, I'm just going to post some of the bands that have highly rated albums on progarchives and rateyourmusic. If there are any that you feel deserve to be here, let me know and I'll update the list. If you have any suggestions on how to group things, they'd be appreciated. 16. Thanks for the list. This was long overdue. Just goes to show how much is still missing from some of the best progressive rock bands. Hard to believe, for example, that there are no Kansas tracks apart from the official ones or even worse, that Frank Zappa has barely been touched even though his oeuvre is so massive and tabs are readily available. Also, where's Caravan? and what about more Camel? I really gotta do it all by myself, don't I?

  17. The thing is that he uses a ton of effect and his guitar are custom made with different mounted element to extend his effect at a hands reach that most of normal guitar player won't have. So most of his sound doesn't really come from the way he play on his guitar but mostly the effect he adds on top of it. Lots of octave and flanger a bit of feedback for long heavy sustain, enough compression/distortion to make every single note stand out easily. All of this makes his guitar sounds alienish while all he does is mostly tremolo picking over single note with some bends here and there and sometimes a full tapping solo because he can in some very repetitive pattern because it's easier to remember.

  18. While your on the subject of guitar/bass differences - I personally think you shouldn't be able to get the Magna Charter title unless your cdlc have the following if applicable. 1 Guitar & 1 Bass trackLyricsRiff Repeater & DDCustom tonesMay not be a popular opinion and i'm not singling anyone out but I think Magna Charter should only be bestowed on charters who produce cdlc that are good enough to be actual dlc's. Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking anyone who produces cdlc without the above points but it's innacurate to be labelled a magna charter if you do. Maybe Mediocre Charter or Casual Charter would be more suitable :P :P :D

  20. Li'l' update on Da Capo challenge : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=572385876 Heaps smoother, just the odd random miss, plucking fingers are keeping better rhythm though not to my satisfaction. I can't really see what I'm doing differently, it feels like I am plucking the right way but looks nothing like other bassists who have the "correct" technique, I blame having massively long palms as well as massive long fingers, the palm-to-thumb rest-to-fingering strings ratio is just not balanced, I have no choice but to curl my fingers or I'd be flapping my fingers on my leg :(

  21. @ - I just tried She Rides and got 99.31% (this was really my second playthrough - the first I restarted halfway through since I sucked). I had three misses on those slides (the first one, one just about in the middle of the song, and one of the last ones. I think the second to last) to go with two "derps" on the chords. If you remove those chord misses, that would put me on par with @@fiddlesticks. I might have done an "insurance strum" at the end of the slide sometimes, but they're definitely hittable. Also, what you mention with the bends: how would a bend that's in EoF not end up in Rocksmith? I'm not sure I've ever seen or heard of that happening. @@NoonyDeloony - You could try to do the same thing I recommended to @@fiddlesticks with emulating bass on your bass. You'll have to be wary of a couple things in the second chorus where they play octaves, but other than that it should be quite playable on your D and G strings. Also, it looks like "Get Lucky" was rated as an 8 in difficulty. Too bad it's not one of the official songs this week, or you'd be in MC. ;)

  23. Neither of my bass' like the tuning on Machine Head so I've had to scrap that, shame as I can play it, the notes just aren't registering at that pitch. Update for Adv, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571753817. Getting bored of Metallica pretty quick, but I'll push for 100% because I'm anally retentive. Will also work a bit more on improving the play of Daft Punk as I was pretty delirious on flu medication and a high fever while playing that. I feel like an athlete that out performed their best time raising suspicion that they must've been on drugs... which is pretty much the case :) but just with the poor performance and crazy 100% accuracy... something's deffo up with that! :)

Da Capo: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571142701 I vaguely remember playing the first opening bars of this song when we last had it in the champs and putting it in the drawer where I keep "tracks I mustn't try as I suck at the moment"... I still suck at it but at least I got through it. I'll work on it as it's fun and I need to sort out my plucking technique and this seems like just the track to try that with. :)

  29. the more I use Rocksmith, the more I think going the game route was a bad idea. I think the next version should focus on being more of a professional training tool and less game. They should develop a CDLC studio where you can write your own songs or import tabs and compete with applications like Guitar Pro 6, Garage band, etc... but still keep it focused for now around "Rock" but expand to drum (digital) and keyboard to complete a standard set of instruments. I've found I only use Rocksmith as a way to learn a new song as it's 10x easier and faster than reading music and tabs (at least based on my stage of learning) but once I have the basics down for that song I need to take it offline and start practicing from memory and learning the transitions. I wouldn't mind if this is the last version of Rocksmith as a game - and they move on, I'd be willing to pay a substantial amount more for a real learning tool, still crank out CDLC, still have a session like mode, bake in the above I mentioned and then expand the education to teach you about music theory, scales, patterns, alternate chords, etc... it cost me thousands a year to send my daughter for lessons, I'd be willing to buy training/lesson modules or if they would integrate with say a site like JamPlay and do a subscription model they would end up making more than selling... e.g. $9.99/mo gets you 2 lessons, 3 CDLC per month... or you can buy, $29.99/mo gets you all-access.

  31. Your ps3 cable will work fine on pc (I use a ps3 cable as my second cable for multiplayer) so just buy the game on its own. Sometimes Steam has sales in which it will be dirt cheap, but I reckon go for the Amazon one for $15. You just install Steam on your pc and find the option to "Redeem Voucher" or "Redeem Code" ( forget what its called). It'll be the best $15 dollars you've spent :D Also, once you have it installed in Steam, go to the Steam store and buy the dlc of Cherub Rock - you need at least one official dlc to make customs work and just forking out for this one will save you a tonne of hassle in the long run as 99% of customs use it's id. And remember to read the FAQs and Tutorials on here on how to get CDLCs working!

  32. Sure. As you play you will notice nuances about the bass that you like or don't like. My advice would be to keep playing and pay attention to how the bass feels. Is it going out of tune a lot? Are the frets to wide? Too narrow? Is the neck to thick? Too thin? Understanding this will allow you to know what you would like for a future bass. Then, when the time is right, go to a store and try several different baases. I am a firm believer that when you find the one you like, you'll know. It will just feel comfortable and "right" to play. My son started on rocksmith with a inexpensive guitar and we recently bought him a more expensive one. He tried several and just liked the feel of the one he chose. As a result, he plays a lot more. So keep playing and you'll know when it's time. They key is to playing. Technique is never wasted on lower end gear and you may find that once you get a higher level instrument that you can play it with greater ease. My thoughts anyway. Hope it helps.

Hoping I might be able to make the time when it's a bit warmer.
