  1. As can be found in the FAQ: 6. Why doesn't Customs Forge allow posting CDLC made by other authors? First and most obvious, we want the original creators to get credit for their work! Second and possibly less obvious, Customs Forge is still very new and as such it is important that we attend to the wants and needs of our most essential resource: the content creators! This is our number one priority; after all without the creators there would be no customs! So given this priority and given that some creators have expressly stated that they do not want their customs shared by anyone but themselves, it is in our best interest as a community to have this rule. Why some custom creators want to have exclusive control of when and where their customs are shared is not really relevant. So, in summary, in order to keep the content creators happy, charting, and sharing their creations with our community, the admins of Customs Forge have asked us not to share any customs other than our own original content. If you have a CDLC created by someone else which has not yet been shared on Customs Forge, you are very much encouraged to contact the original author for permission to post their creation! Then, WITH PERMISSION (and you must provide proof!), you are more than welcome to post that custom! After all, the more customs we can share with the community the better!

  5. I don't know how to thank you. One suggestion: Having thousands or millions of CDLCs is great but I think the Quality and integrity is much better than quantity. If there was a system to rate the CDLCs even a testing team. That would be awesome/ Thanks again

  6. Hi, folks. I'll be using this thread to maintain the latest versions of EOF in one place. To start, download and extract EOF 1.8RC12: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ih70h6p67iy77ka/eof1.8RC12.zip You can keep that zip file handy to avoid downloading it more than once. When I release a new hotfix, all you have to do is replace the files from the above zip file with the ones from the hotfix. The latest hotfix (9-26-2020) is here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/6xzg32k4a9gqwxs/eof_hotfix_%289-26-2020_4%29.zip/file *If you use a non QWERTY US English keyboard layout, and keyboard controls/shortcuts aren't working for you, please make a post describing what keyboard shortcuts aren't working, and what the Info panel says the "CODE" and "ASCII" values are after you use each of the keyboard controls in question. I can make Mac releases and will try to post one with each Windows release, but my ability to do so is sometimes limited. If I don't get around to releasing a Mac build you want, just remind me to do so. The latest Mac build (9-26-2020) is here: http://ignition.customsforge.com/eof/download/487 Unless you have oggenc and LAME installed (these don't come with the Mac build for licensing reasons), you won't be able to have EOF automatically convert from MP3 to OGG when you create a new chart. If you have trouble getting those set up on your system, here is a package that should get them installed and usable by EOF: http://www.t3-i.com/apps/eof/downloads/eof_utilities.pkg Please provide any and all feedback, including bugs and feature requests. If possible, also please review the included documentation (manual, tutorials) and let me know if you find any room for improvement there. Eventually I plan to add a Rocksmith authoring section to the pro guitar tutorial, but the community's knowledge of the Rocksmith songs' makeup changes pretty quickly so it's hard to know when particular features are considered fully known. For any features that ARE fully known (like anchors), please feel free to remind me if they aren't incorporated into EOF yet, in case I missed any information being passed around on this forum or the Google group. Note: If you are reporting a bug, please specify which hotfix (date) you're using. I release hotfixes on a somewhat random schedule, sometimes more than once per day, so the issue being reported may have been fixed in a release you haven't tried yet.

  7. Do you play the $10 Walmart special or an original played by Paul Mccartney?? We want to see em and hear the stories behind them! This was my first guitar that I bought at a second hand store. It's very light and I like the way it feels. I use it mainly for Drop D and lower tunings. It's an Epihphone Special SG. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g34/jshaw0705/IMG_0563_zps70c572b9.jpg I am 35 years old. As such when I was in high school every guitar player and lead singer that you dreamed of being played one of these. I had to have one! I understand that over the years they are pretty much all the same but that wasn't going to do it for me. I had to have an era correct one. I hunted and hunted and finally came across this heavily used, but plays perfect '99 MIM Fender Stratocaster. Found it on Craigslist and had the guy email me the serial number. As soon as I had it confirmed by Fender for year and such, I headed out to get it. 2 hours. I am thrilled to own it though! Totally worth the drive. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g34/jshaw0705/IMG_0564_zps01d5e2ea.jpg

  9. Hey everyone!Sorry for the lack of updates, we've been working hard behind the scenes to make everything work. Today is officially 14 days (two weeks) since CustomsForge has launched. Here are some stats: We have 8,957 membersA total of 7,330 posts. Our total users online ever: 438 (YESTERDAY!) We have a database of over 1,000 CDLC's. The community has donated over $1,000 Thank you everyone for pulling together and making this community what it is. NEW updates to notice: You can now add your bass & guitar in your user profile Search is now local, and is updated immediately without delay. The website is faster and stable (that unfortunately cut some dev time out, as we had to work on that fulltime) We have a new tracker for issues: http://customsforge.com/tracker/ Steam profile. You profile now has a steam view so people can add you / track your games: http://customsforge.com/user/1-unleashed2k/ Here are some projects we are currently working on: Search Settings You will be able to set your own custom settings for search that will save with your username. Request System We're working on a new system for requests, unfortunately there is no ETA for this project yet. Dark themed skin I'm actually looking into some paid options to have the main theme reskinned black, ETA: This monthWe are working on a lot more behind the scenes but we can't offer complete details yet, still a lot of things in motion.Thank you once again for your support and we're working hard on resolving any issues with the website. EDIT:I've decided to remove the TEMP DLC (THE OLD AREA, NOT THE NEW ONE) area this friday. Please read more about it here: http://customsforge.com/topic/1883-temp-dlc-area-removal/

  10. I've started working on Zombie, I'm surprised this haven't been made yet, a classic that's both very easy and fun to play. My mighty PC powers are a bit lacking, there's still a little way to go before I've wrestled a playable version out of the editor. Lead and rythm are both nearly complete, I'm also thinking about melting some lead parts together with rythm to keep it more interresting. ---edit--- It's nearly complete, I only need to add custom tones which will be done as soon as I'm back at my own PC sometime later today. If anyone wants to see the final version (excl custom tones), here's the link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wy19kj757lb04zc/-_YU3uWBo_

  11. Well, sure. I've just spent the last week working on my first custom -- I've put in tons of hours on this, and I'm still not done (because I keep screwing up). And yes, it would piss me off is someone tried to pass off MY work as theirs. On the other hand, I'm doing this because I love this particular song and I want to share it with as many as people as possible. So it would piss me off even more if the work I'm doing were to get lost forever. So, yes, I can understand how someone would feel a certain amount of 'ownership' over their customs. But this still doesn't mean they own anything. And let's not be naive -- the moment anyone shares their file, the minute it's put up on a database -- it's already too late. A simple torrents search is all anyone needs in order to recognize that. The only way someone can create a custom and maintain 'ownership' of it is not to share it in the first place. Keep it to yourself. If it's that important to you that this thing is 'yours' and will only be yours, then you should definitely not share it. (You probably should think twice about downloading other people's customs too). Personally, I'm really proud of the work I've been doing -- screwups and all -- and I'm looking forward to sharing the final product with anyone who wants it. No one can take THAT away from me! By the way, I believe there were more than 2,500 customs for RS1. That's a lot of great music lost forever. Unless people are willing to restock the pond.

  12. I'm hoping someone can get me going in the right direction. I've been trying to find info on my own but I'm getting pretty lost. I had never heard the term jtag or rgh until I received rocksmith for Christmas and started wondering where to get the songs I saw others playing online. That led me to the other site and now here. So my xbox is about 5-6 years old but the system settings say it is dashboard 2.0.16547.0 . My kids play on xbox live, do they update automatically? If I understand correctly these can't be jtaged. Is there a way to reset it to the original settings? If not can I still go the rgh route? The only thing I want it for is to play rocksmith songs, which is better? I apologize for being the guy asking questions that I'm sure are answered somewhere, but I can't seem to find them. Thanks for any help in advance.

  13. I brew my own, cheaper that way. Really? I would have thought differently. Then again, I guess it depends on where you live. If you live in the US then I think just buying the mass marketed crap would be the cheapest way to go. I'm basing this on my own experience roasting my own coffee. I love good home roasted coffee, but no way is it cheaper than buying the canned stuff at the grocery store, and it's not close. I pay around $7.00/LB for green coffee beans when you count shipping and that probably yields about 13oz of coffee once it's roasted and the water weight and chaff are out of the picture. I'm sure I could get a 5LB can for less than two LB's cost me, but if you've never had a truly fresh cup of home roasted coffee you don't know what you are missing out on.

  15. it's only common sense, some customs in the process will be lost, but arbitrarily moving customs without creator consent or knowledge is just wrong, eventually lost ones will be recreated, and the database will get bigger than ever. I am also a photographer and I share my images on flickr, however, finding them used without my permission all over the internet still pisses me off :) ok technically the CDLC creator is working from a song he didn't write and over which he has no right but, creating the custom is still work right?

  21. Well, none of us can claim IP rights on any of this. We didn't write or perform the songs, and most customs are coming from pre-made Gpro tabs, so people can't even claim that. But it does take time and effort to chart a custom -- people deserve bragging rights for that, at least. Personally, I view this as a vast open source project. What we're doing here is just an extension of the tab universe that's been developing online since... well, since online began.

  22. There probably is, but I can't find it or it's been nuked from Smithy Anvil or something. To place a tone change in EOF, seek to where you want the tone to change, use "Track>Rocksmith>Tone change>Add" (or just press CTRL+SHIFT+T) and type a name. Do this at each point the tone should switch. If you refer to a tone more than once, make sure you type the name exactly the same. When you're done, you can review the tone changes with "Track>Rocksmith>Tone change list". If those all look correct, go to "Track>Rocksmith>Tone change>Names" and this will help you make sure you didn't make a typo on any of the tones (ie. if you called one "Distortion" and the other "distortion", they will show up as two separate entries and you could rename one of them here to make it the exact same name as the other). When that looks good, you can select one of the tones in the list and make it the default tone (the one in effect at the beginning of the song). This should be all you need to do in EOF for the tones, the rest of it is in the toolkit.

  26. Hi, folks. The latest hotfix (r1302) is in the first post. Changes are as follows: *Updated MIDI tones to take the track's capo placement into account. *Added the ability to open the "Edit pro guitar note" dialog by clicking the middle mouse button (ie. scroll wheel). If no notes are selected, the dialog is opened for the currently moused-over note if any. *Fixed a bug where operations that move all notes (ie. add leading silence, changing the midi delay or first beat position) would cause non pro guitar notes and lyrics to move twice as far as they should. *Fixed a bug where notes with linknext status couldn't extend beyond the next note even when crazy status was in use. *Fixed some problems with how linknext and crazy statuses interact with each other and with tech notes.

  27. I concur. In the beginning I used dynamic difficulty because it helps you learn to play the guitar, which is what I wanted to focus on. Now that my hands know what they are doing, Max difficulty is the way to go, otherwise you are only seeing part of the song, which then makes you have to learn a part multiple times (granted each additional time shouldn't take as long to learn as the initial couple levels but it still seems inefficient time wise). I think the best way to learn a song is to do as abteen suggested or find tab of the song you wish to learn and run through a section of the song a couple times, then play it from memory. It will cause you to memorize it faster because rather than RS's easy sight reading holding your hand, your brain has to actually do work. But everyone is different, experiment with each way and use what works best for you :)

  38. Some interesting ideas here. Please let me toss out another thought. The creation of CDLCs seems to me to be very much like software development itself. Lots of versions, revisions from different people, needing one 'owner' to verify changes are better not worse. This suggest to me that CDLCs might be a candidate for version source control as the mechanism to keep it all in one spot and collaborative. I'll go one step further and suggest that source control via Git seems like a fairly natural way to handle this process. Please don't glaze over, Git can be complicated, but it can be easy too. Setting up would need to be simpler. But once it's in use, it's easy to post changes, branch new versions that may not pan out, see what changed and why. Easy for other people to drop in and tweak just a couple of things and post as improvements. Not sure, just seems like a natural fit for the distributed nature of Git development.

  39. Die in a fire? Hmm. I don't make customs --yet -- because I work two jobs, have a wife and two kids, and need time to play guitar. I'm hoping to have a bit of a break in my workload in a couple of months, at which time I may well give it a shot, since I do enjoy playing with software. But I'm usually into the creative parts, not much of a technician. I do try to contribute in other ways, as small as they may be. As for opening other people's customs and working on them: I think there should be a section here in Customsforge where customs builders who are open to working as a team can post their CDLCs. By doing this they can agree to relinquishing authorship, or at least sharing it. Perhaps they can call themselves "Team Leader" or something like that.

  40. I'm a fan of the open source approach as well. I've made numerous small tweaks to other people's customs, ranging from removing a "The" at the beginning of the "Sort Name" field, adding a custom tone where there was none, splitting the song into sections for easier riff repeating, to fixing wrong charts. I don't feel like I can upload the new versions under my own name, but if there was a way to attach these tweaks to the original database entry, I'd gladly do that. Of course, some of those originated from Smithy's, and don't have a database entry here yet.
