#244609 Ignition "search" feature doesnt work

Posted by chapmak on 22 January 2017 - 07:38 PM

Another person in the thread mentioned it worked once they flushed the DNS.   I tried that and now it works fine for me again too.

At command prompt

type ipconfig /flushdns, then hit enter

Start up IE again and then you should be fine

#241889 Faith loss in guitar playing

Posted by chapmak on 27 December 2016 - 05:58 PM

I have been playing Rocksmith for about 3 years, about 3-5 days a week.   I am not great at it, nor do I think I am pathetic.  If your hoping to cut a single and be on VEMO and girls throwing bras at you, then your probably not going to make it by Rocksmith alone.  But if you just want to learn to play, be decent enough to impress non-playing friends, family, GIRLS, then keep on trucking.

I have my Master's degree done and I know that can be trying.   Don't sell your stuff.  Just sit it aside for awhile and hit the books and when your stuck trying to write your thesis, then playing metal, deathcore or whatever, would probably be therapeutic.     Trust me.  I have to kids and playing something like Metallica's Sandman after getting them to bed at last can be quite the calming thing to do.

#196481 Rocksmith crashes right when I start it!

If you have a NVidia graphics card, I had the same thing happen.   If you exit the GeForce Experience tool that checks for updated drivers, then start up Rocksmith, then it works ok.

#193429 Did rocksmith teach anyone here how to play guitar?

Posted by chapmak on 29 December 2015 - 07:40 PM

Can't read music or or even tabs.   The big reason is I never actually tried.   As for learning to play, I can say yes, I can as long as I have Rocksmith or at least one of the videos running.    Never had a reason to really memorize a song, but I guess if I had a need or most like the desire to memorize and nail a song, I could.   I play for enjoyment sake.  It gives me something to do and its a nice icebreaker.

My brother-in-law has played in bar bands and does work behind the scenes on the boards at a recording studio.   He is thinking of getting it because it would be a nice cheap and easy way to have the background music when he is practicing without band members.

#186085 Best CDLCs for my old man

Creedence Clearwater Revival .  Pink Floyd, Journey, Joan Jett, Allman Brothers, Beatles, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult,  Rolling Stones, Cream, and Beach Boys come to mind.

Probably ask him what his band played.   Google something like Top 100 70's rock songs for example and see if anything perks his interest.     If there is one band, you can probably do a search for "Band similar to  XXXXXXX"

#180891 What keeps you playing?

Posted by chapmak on 11 October 2015 - 04:43 PM

I'm 46 and I just started a little less than 2 years ago.    Oddly enough I started because of playing Rockband with co-workers who were 1/2 my age.    I tried to learn when I was about 14-15 yaears old with traditional training and it fizzled out in a few months.    I saw this in a store and started thinking about it again.   Been playing since.    I have yet to hit 100% on a song.   I call it a good day if I hit 85%.

Besides playing Jurassic rock, when I look at the list of new additions, if I see a song that is getting 100+ downloads quickly and not familiar with it, I watch the video and wind up exposed to new groups that I wouldn't normally listen to.

Like a few have said, I do it for me and find it relaxing and challenging.   I have no aspirations or delusions of playing on a stage.   Its just fun and when you mention it to people, they think its awesome.  My oldest son is about to hit his teens, so I guess I will be the "Cool Dad" who plays music they even like.

#123812 I think it's time we talk about Game Mods

Being able to set the default dynamic difficulty to 100% so we don't have to do it manually the first  time you play it.      Could that be a registry setting?

#76104 how do you spend time in rocksmith ?

Posted by chapmak on 02 August 2014 - 06:11 PM

I am like you a newbie at guitar. I am 45 so learning is a bit of a challenge to get my fingeres where I want them. Usually in the evening when I get home I play on PS3 RS2014 for about an hour and a half. Its usually on the songs I have been playing and trying to bring them up in percentage points. Once in a blue moon I will get into Session Mode.

Later in the evening after supper and usually watching TV, I will run scales, play parts of the songs I have learned, you tube something to piddle with.

A couple of weeks ago I downloaded RS for my laptop. I have been playing a few songs on that too.

I probably should look into taking lessons also.

45 as well.   I do about an hour during the week, then 1-1/2 sometimes 2 on Friday & Sat.   Been at it for 6 months.   Best XMas present I got myself.
