Note Length

tacticalcity

Recommended Posts

I am very new to EOF. Made a couple songs, but they are pretty rough. My main issue is not knowing how to control the note length.

When I create a note from scratch is has a very short sustain or hold automatically applied. I need to know how to control that. I want to know how to both make it just a short quick note without any tail or sustain at all. I also want to know how to drag that sustain out if needed.

I did search all over the place trying to find out how to do this. No luck. I'm either saying it wrong or people skip over this in their tutorials.

Thanks.

What I am seeing in EOF...

What happens in Rocksmith (I want just a square note and not the short tail telling you to hold the note that I am getting here...does that make sense)...

@@tacticalcity mouse wheel or [ and ] (and this is all in the help of EOF that you can access by pressing F1)

Gotcha. I know how to get the box with the note settings to come up.

What settings do I enter to make it just a SQUARE in Rocksmith and not a Square with a tail? See the pics I added to the original post. This will show you what I am seeing in Rocksmith and what my current settings are in EOF.

Thanks for the help in advanced.

The note panel offer no control over the sustain. the issue you have in the main view is that you are too zoomed out to actually notice the sustain on the note but it's there.

But what bother me the most in that screenshot is the fact you are not syncing the beat to the music which will only make your work harder on so many aspect and won't allow you to create quality content at any point.

1.  I figured out the BPM thing. It's not reflected in the picture below. I am working on making the necessary changes to that now. But  I still have the issue of editing the notes themselves.

2. I figured out how to zoom in. Now what? Trying to select or grab the end of the note and dragging it towards the beginning of the note is not working. I saw someone do that in a video. But that doesn't work when I try and do it. I can click on the note to select the entire note and move the entire note along the track, and I can use the other mouse button to delete it. But I can not just grab the end of the note and stretch or shrink the length of it. That just won't work for me.

I need you to tell me how to change the length of the note. That is the key element I am missing and no one seems to be able to tell me how to do it. People keep giving me tid bits of information and assuming the rest will be self explanatory. Sadly it isn't.

And if the "please" isn't implied let me say it now. Pretty please with a cherry on top. ;-)

Thank you for getting on me about BPM. I had to fight with it to get it to work right. Kept wanting to revert to 120bpm even after I edited. Had to recreate the file from scratch to get it to work.

Still not able to edit note length however. Could really use some help with that.

Uploading what I have thus far to the forum.  All the notes are in the right place. They just look funny.

@@tacticalcity mouse wheel or "[" and "]"

Already told you how to adjust the sustain on a selected note

is this a test? You're messing with me right? Because this feels like that old "Who's on first" routine.

I keep asking "how do I do "X".

You say, "you do "X".

How do I adjust the sustain? By doing what? I cannot physically figure out how to do it.  I need to know what steps to perform in order to adjust the sustain.

I can bring up  the box with the notes properties as pictured above. But then what? Do I check something? Do I enter a specific value somewhere? What?

You don't need that box, just select a note by clicking on it and use the mouse wheel to adjust the sustain (or you can use the keyboard key [ or ] too).

The note panel, as i said, is useless for adjusting sustain.

I don't know how else i can write this anymore really.

Woudln't work with a traking pad on my laptop. And I could not figure out which key is the [or]. Needed a USB mouse to get it work. Eureka!!! It works. Better yet I, it also works with "Select All" so  can change every note at once.

Thank you.

@@tacticalcity if you're adding notes by hand you can change the default note duration in the preferences menu (hit F11) by checking "new notes are made 1ms long"  then they wont have sustain by default.
