Anyone else worried?

Snake3169

Question

Anyone else worried that the latest patch for Rocksmith 2014 (coming in october) is going to disable customs? It wouldn't take much for them to do it. If they moved away from APP IDs for songs.. hell, even changing the APP ID on one song, would screw up a lot of customs.. well almost all of them. It seems like an awful long time to be working on some UI improvements.

Hopefully I am wrong and customs come out the other side unscathed but if I am right, looks like a lot of us will be getting the pirated version of Rocksmith 2014 for customs xD

If they do decide to make cdlc unplayable just set the steam auto update feature to off until you find out whether it does disable cdlc or not :)

My CDLC !

I usually release about 2 CDLC a month, because I like to take my time and make them as good as I can for the benefit of everyone interested in them ;)

I don't find it too far fetched that Ubisoft WOULD try to do something to try and hinder our ability to add cdlc to Rocksmith, and try to ensure that official content was purchased more often. They have said before that customs have hindered their DLC process because the artist saw videos of their songs on youtube and mistaking them for official content...... I don't know, I too worry just a little.  Though I agree with Alex360, we will discover a workaround B)

yes, they could disable customs if they want to let the game die. But it'd be useless, they know there would be any developers who'd find another way for customs (thx guys :D). They should be grateful for that. That couple odlcs are realy rarely hitting my taste.

Cdlcs, that's the only thing that keeps it interesting over all the time.

Well we also got to remember that because of customs, people have also been able to download official DLC and use it without paying for it by simply changing the APP ID of the official DLC to a song you already officially own. I think that right there is robbing Ubisoft of a lot of money, I know that it was an unintentional side effect of the original creators to be able to do something like that.. but it wont be overlooked by Ubisoft. So again, I hope I am wrong.

Oh, c'mon, it's not that Rocksmith is the only cracked game out there. There are few that are not, and those that are, are with all those official dlc's. So that's not an issue with customs/toolkit here.

As fripp said, there are many who use RS only thanks to customs. Jazz? Blues? Funk/Reagge/Ska?

Well, i love cdlc but i bought alot of official dlc. Even some songs i do not like, just for twitch streaming reasons.

I think Ubisoft should have realized, RS would be almost dead by now without tons of cdlc.

I don't think they try to cut that off.

They should use the customsforge stats and release some popular songs instead.

@@Peppy If the artist say no, they can't release the song, it's sometimes as simple as that and sadly Ubi can't do anything in those situation except waiting for the artist to change his mind...

@@stateofflux It's very unlikely they would change anything on the psarc end as it would mean updating all the older ones too which would reveal a heavy task for them that they could easily avoid by not changing anything to the file format, if you were a dev i'm sure you'll choose the option to not change anything if you don't have to.

There's absolutely no need to be worried about this if you actually stop to think about it logically.

1. Ubisoft has been letting CDLC exist for several years already, if you include the original Rocksmith, for a reason. It makes them money. Period.

2. As has already been said, it would take far too much development effort to change the way things work, just to close the loophole on CDLC. They're not going to spend that kind of money and effort if there is no return (see point number 1). It's taken them this long just to implement new features that the community has been asking for for years, so you can think of this update as tying up a few loose ends so that they can fully stop any further development on a legacy product.

3. Even if they decided to patch over our CDLCs functionality (which they won't), the community would find a way around it shortly thereafter. Therefore, they know it's not worth the effort.
