I think it's time we talk about Game Mods

xZaggin

Question

Before I go all PC master race here, I just want to get this out there.

I'm really happy how far we made it as a community, the contribution on this website is just phenomenal. And honestly if it wasn't for the community I would probably have about 10 hours in Rocksmith max. Ever since the "smithy's incident" I feel like Customs Forge has been progressing exponentially.

But here's where it hasn't progressed at all, the actual game itself. I'm not talking about gameplay just navigation in general. Obviously this thread is more targeted towards PC players. I always expected that there would be someone out there that would want to improve the game itself.

For the PC users out there, I hope you can relate to me when I say that the navigation is clunky. It feels like this game is just a port from the console version and they gave us no choice for controls.

Honestly I have almost 200 hours in this game already and I still mess up with the whole "9,O,0,P" thing, something that could've been easily highlighted with your mouse.

Volume knobs feel so glitchy/buggy, like I drag it to 90% for example that move my mouse to go back a screen then it suddenly moves to like 30% or whichever direction I moved my mouse. To prevent this I have to click about 2 or 3 times to make sure the knob doesn't move after I let go.

Search feature, if you're like me and have tons of CDLC's and DLC's it takes a while to get to the one you want. I'm pretty sure I have quite a few songs that I didn't play/test out because I forgot about them. I add batches of CDLC's and play them one by one, it would go so much faster if you could just search them by song, artist album or last added instead of just being able to rearrange their order.

The whole game in general feels like it can be optimized so much on the PC but the Dev's are pretty focussed on producing new content, and I don't blame them they put out good stuff and it actually generates more revenue to keep them going.

Some other mods I expected to see would've been using your guitar to move around

I.E :   making a slide from fret 3 to 9 would scroll or depending how fast or the distance of the slider. a Power chord to click ( Enter ) to go on to the next screen. And an Octave to go back?

Stuff like that

You can sort by artist, year, if that's what you're asking.

Hehe, I think that I never used mouse in Rocksmith :) For long I was using keyboard, and you're right, I was always messing this keys :D But my usb-keyboard (well, that was old keyboard with usb adapter :D ) stopped working, so I'm using dual-shock now. It's way easier, you're right here.

Using guitar to control? That would be awesome!

Guitar as navigational tool would be logical and very easy to implement, i suppose.

A thing that bothers me most - i cannot hide dlcs, and there is no way i found out to remove the RS2014 original songs grrr...

I have bought all songs i like (about 50) and i have the chapionship songs of course - i would love to remove all not hand-selected songs...

No - marking as fav is no option - you cannot sort by category within favs, and its no use for nonstop play selection....

Yes removing song in-game would be a good feature as well, also creating playlists. Not like the non-stop play thing but just ways to order your songs. For example

Punk-Rock playlist or Audioslave/RATM playist, basically anything you want that you can go back to

multiple play lists is something I would like to see. Some times I like to play acoustic, some times some of the classics, sometimes alternative etc, but with so many CDLC and DLC songs even in my favorites songs get lost.

would just like to have multiple favorites/playlists to suit my mood.

the removing songs in game would be great too, too many songs I don't play or like but seems too much stuffing around to delete.

Unfortunately, the possibility to do game modifications significantly depends on the game itself and the possibilities it provides that mod creators can hook into. For example, a game like Skyrim has an extensive script system for which programmers can write hooks that enable them to change the interface and other fancy stuff.

I think it is fair to assume that Rocksmith provides no such capabilities. In this case, we would have to hack our way into the game with some "dark magic" that may increase the probability of crashes and may not work as flawlessly as we'd like. It might not be impossible (well, controlling the game with the guitar is probably impossible, if Ubisoft themselves don't add it), but I would not hold my breath.

Its a botch but you can do multiple playlist now. I have set up different profiles for guitar and bass (also for alt tunings). Makes non-stop play far more useful.

Please be more specific!!!

I need that option!!!

You can organize your own folders by band or type(rock, blues, etc.), then put those folders in or take them out of your dlc folder as needed.  RS 2014 will read the files in subfolders, so you can move them in and out as whole folders.  This will help reduce your loadup time and make it easier to find your file.  Just make sure you put your stuff in dlc folder before loading up game, or it won't show up.

About playlists, be sure to read this tutorial by cozy:
Tutorial #6 - How to Make CDLC Playlists - My CDLC Song Folder Is Overflowing

It works with multiple profiles (per playlist) and a batch file for copying the selected playlist CDLCs into the right folder.

Check out my easy tutorial on how to add a metronome to your CDLC: Mute the original music, play only with the metronome and find out how good you really sound! Also: Find CDLCs that have the metronome enabled!

Want a USB-Footswitch that you can use to control the tone selection and all the menus in Rocksmith? Check out Rodman's Tutorial and my additions to that!  Footswitch_Logo.png

My CDLCs: Devin Townsend - Life, Deep Peace, Ih-Ah!, Deadhead; Farin Urlaub - Ok

My ideas for new features in Ignition, e.g. filters for Multitrack CDLC and Metronome CDLC.

This is exactly what I was afraid of, that the game is way to closed up to modify anything.

Are you ppl opretating RS with mouse/keyboard? Excuse me but definitively you are such a noobs.Do yourselves a favor and buy a gamepad, not necesarily from Xbox but one that satisfies your needs.

Operating RS with mouse/keyboard is so absurd   that it's incredible that somebody is asking for a mod.lol.

Excuse me. I like mouse and keyboard. I do own an Xbox for windows controller and it's not convenient at all having for many wires running through my Laptop as I play guitar I want at least some room so I don't accidentally unplug anything. I tried it and it is not worth the hassle. Asking for a mod is not absurd at all unless you're a console gamer. game mods on PC are very common in case you didn't know.

I wouldn't be going off calling people noobs for using mouse and keyboard if I were you, go be ignorant somewhere else.

I also use mouse and keyboard. I see no reason to use a gamepad :/ Would be such a hassle really.

With keyboard i can easily jump to different artists and switch between sorting methods. Using a gamepad for that... gross...

On the topic of modding. Rocksmith is a pretty closed of game from what I've heard.

These are all fine suggestions for a future release.  Perhaps putting them on the official RS forums will gain traction.  I was (and still am) amazed at the amount of community feedback that was included in the upgrade from RS to RS 2014.  They did a very good job.

Yes, aware of that, thx.

The real problem for me is i cant get rid of the original RS 2014 (and RS) songs. .... Thats a massive pain .....

The next thing is .... As there is a big amount of ODLC already and increasing ingame playlist management wouldnt be too much to ask, esp. for nonstop play...

Lets c if this happens anytime soon...

This would feel weird to do, the last thing I want is for them to make another version of Rocksmith (unless is has backwards compatibility with the CDLC's)

I'm not saying that they will specifically create another Rocksmith to apply all these requests and improve on the game itself but I think it's highly unlikely that they will improve the current version.

Since the work it takes to do all of this is a lot, for example they could use this time for DLC making instead which will generate a lot more cash in comparison to improving the navigation.

They are probably already working on a new Rocksmith since the dev team and the charting team are not the same and i doubt the dev team stay there doing nothing...

Your best shot is to get your idea out there and that they decide to implement it in the futur Rocksmith.

CDLC will live on (i think) as they did from RS1 to RS2014. They won't be available directly from the start but soon enough for sure and many charters (and maybe this whole community) will jump in to make the best transition possible.

A simple feature I'd like to see implemented is showing the fingering on single note sections, rather than only within arpeggios or chords.  A more complex feature that I'd LOVE to see is a musical score up near the lyrics section.  I tried using a notation font as lyrics in a custom and it simply didn't work.

Sometimes I use big words that I don't completely understand, just to make myself seem more photosynthesis.

Wrong. Rocksmith dev team is working on something else at the moment.

A simple feature I'd like to see implemented is showing the fingering on single note sections, rather than only within arpeggios or chords.

This feature is already in the game.  The little lanes in the note highway correspond to each finger.  So, from the left, lane 1=index, lane 2=middle, lane 3=ring, lane 4=pinky.

So if a note on the highway is transcribed over the 3rd lane, you play that note with your ring finger, etc.  The same applies to chords/arpeggios as well, they just put the finger numbers above the notes as they go by during transitions to help you move your hand faster.

The only hitch is that the laneways don't always line up properly on customs.

Fingering recommendations as mentioned already would be ace, otherwise I end up favouring the first 2 fingers.

Also in non stop play - it doesn't give rewards like it does in per song mode.

Also - would be nice to end non stop play early and still get the stats.

In non stop play, I'd like to know the % improvement I made when the song ends (you get it in single song mode).

With customs here, I wish there was an official once a month torrent release of the latest songs that are approved or improved.

I like to grab everything that people are kind enough to produce and it takes a while to stay on top of things.

To max out DD (almost straight from Time Is Fading's sig).  When you start the song

- Press space bar

- Press and hold 0

- Press down arrow

- Press and hold right arrow

- Press delete key

Wow, that must have taken 10 seconds :)

Sarcasm aside, it does bother me too.  I wish there was a global setting in options to always max out DD.

Also, on the control thing.  I have a xbox 360 pad permanently hooked up, and I use the keyboard to navigate the game.  Once you learn the button it ain't so bad.

What does really annoy me though, is that stupid deliberate pause before it does anything e.g. hit ctrl to change path, change the path then press esc to come out.  How many times I've hit esc over and over because I think the game is broke - nope, for some reason it needs to take 5 fkn seconds to respond to a button press :(

It does this a lot, using tone designer is nippy too.  All those little pauses can get quite frustrating.  And when you assign a tone to a slot you need to make sure you wait the 3 or 5 seconds it prescribes, or it loads the slot instead of assigning your new tone to it.   AGHAAGHAGHAGAGH

Why can't it just be a slick, quick menu system...

Rant over, bring on RS16 :D

Lol.  Ditto on all counts.  DD to 100% would be great.  It would also be nice to be able to lock it in, so it doesn't drop down when too many notes are missed.  I frequently unplug guitar, and plug into my amp, while playing Rocksmith.  I can adjust volumes better, and I think it is better to try to train your ears to hear the songs instead of your eyes to watch the screen.  This has helped my song retention 10x over.  Many times I have found that Rocksmith will not always count the note you played, even though it is correct; so you spend alot of time watching to see if you are hitting notes, and it is easier to hear them.

As far as having to many CDLC's in folder, I have been wondering about this for awhile now.  Other than the link provided earlier for different profiles ( seems a little involved ),  Couldn't you just move your CDLC to seperate folders outside of Rocksmith file, and then just input whatever folder you wanted before starting the game?  I know if you wanted to change song list, you would have to shut down game and switch folders, then reload.  But this might speed things up a bit.
